❝Tell me, is the rose naked or is that her only dress?
Why do trees conceal the splendor of their roots?
Who hears the regrets of the thieving automobile?
Is there anything in the world sadder than a train standing in the rain?❞
- Pablo Neruda
Hello booksters! It's been a while so pardon me for the rather morose piece of poetry. All this time away from Bookstagram has certainly made me introspect given that I was able to have 100x time on my hands 😂. But of course I only kid (and ramble on) because I terribly MISSED you all! Also, sorry to break your bubble but I wasn't off vacationing...how I truly I wish I were 🙈. Instead, I fell sick and I'm still recovering from the illness - so here's to a few more days of staying in and eating boiled food!
📌: So, what have I missed? What are you currently reading? What are your weekend plans?
📜: And if you don't have much to share - feel free to drop in a few lines from your favorite poem in the comments below!
Do you know the temperature at which paper burns?🔥
- it's 451 Fahrenheit degrees
It's a dystopian future and firemen set books on fire instead of extinguishing them, because books are BANNED. And so ensues the story of fictional fireman Guy Montag and his struggles with conforming to this kind of future - his present. He makes new friends and starts to feel disillusioned by his old ones - subsequently a lot of misfortune falls upon him as he starts to question authorities and he eventually runs away in a rather anticlimactic ending.
❝If someone tells you what a story is about, they are probably right. If they tell you that that is ALL the story is about, they are very definitely wrong❞ - this line from Neil Gaiman's introduction to this edition of Fahrenheit 451 very very correctly captures the relevance of this book in today's society. ✨
No, it's not another dystopian novel that talks of a 'what if'.
No, it's also not another fantasy tale of a fictional/parallel world.
It is indeed a warning - which even though written in 1950s America - holds eerily true in today's time. Fahrenheit 451 is an important, gripping and challenging read which definitely carves out a niche for itself. It focuses on themes like finding the right balance between being fully consumed by technology, struggles of maintaining real human relationships and a sense of wonder at nature. I found the last quarter of the story to be a bit all over the place and I would have preferred a different ending - but maybe that's exactly what Bradbury wanted to tell us. The future is chaotic and it is not going to pan out the way you want it to.
📖: What did you think of this book?
📌: What do you think of dystopian literature in general? Any favorites or recommendations?
He may of forgotten to add #Woman to this historic speech but Theodore Roosevelt had a point with this one... #CitizenshipInARepublic#TheManInTheArena .
The beauty of kids is that in the majority they do exactly this. They think it, see it and DO it. No hesitation.
I hope the child in you is still #DaringGreatly !
My next read, the 10x rule by Grant CARDONE. Besides the Compound Effect by Darren Hardy which was the first personal development I had them read at 12 & 14, take notes on and openly discuss with their Dad. Grants' book came next. I felt it was now time for an additional read of this ground breaking impactful & impressive book by me.
Of course the Bible started it off, and I read, apply & take action from a variety of sources. However, this is one of the very books which ignited something in my kids and I, as how to crush things through a huge mindset to coincide with result producing obsessive effort.
Average ranks right up there with mediocrity. Average person reads a book "maybe" in a month. Millionaires read 5 a month, and it's not just about the money, but it's what powerful impactful state that person must become, with that fire which burns from within to achieve what was magnanimously done. #staywoke#successleavesclues#dutydriven#focus#immerseyourself#youtube#audiobooks#read#massiveaction#daily#listen#watch#learn#swag#10x#itpaysdividends#sayingyestofatherhood#moldingthemind#fromthefront @grantcardone @darrenjhardy @nicksaundersmusic
