Talking about Jakarta is means talking about Monas or National Monument. Jakarta is not Jakarta without Monas. It is the icon of Jakarta and it was really first thing which we saw from our taxi tour from Jakarta airport to our hotel. It looks amazing especially by night. Located at the center of this big city, Monas is become a tourist area & interesting education center for Jakarta people. Monas built in 1959 and launched 2 years later in 1961. Monas is always crowded by tourists who want to see the beauty of Jakarta from its top. In this magnificent place you can enjoy many kind of tours and educational objects. You can climb this high rise monument to the top. You also can do any sport activity here with your friends and family. You can enjoy the beautiful park with harmoniously trees. Or maybe you want to enjoy an interesting water fountain. #jakarta#indonesia#indo#bule#foreigner#travel#travelgram#traveling#traveler#indotravellers #🇵🇱 #🇲🇨🇵🇱 #monas#jakartamonas#jakartamonasindonesia#jakartamonasfountain#jakartanationalmonument#lapanganmerdeka
Walking every kilometer on foot is an arduous walk along the dirty roads, most of the times without any sidewalks, where the pedestrian is the last thing anybody is going to pay attention to. The cars are in rush and the road lines and signs lost their meaning long time ago, since a 3 line road is able to fit 4 lines of cars and a couple of tuk-tuks and some motorbikes. It’s probably the only city where the roads are so crowded, that even the motorbikes get stuck in the traffic. It is impossible to find a piece of a road without a traffic jam. Everybody is in hurry and fight for every crack to get to work or home at least a minute faster. If you want to cross the street you have to walk a few kilometers in search of a pedestrian crossing. In Indonesia, the traffic lights have a completely different meaning…even if you will find and you see that is red light for cars, the cars go on. Pedestrians in Jakarta very often must guess what light is on because it is visible only from drivers site
We spent two first day only for walking and tour around place where we have been. We did not have any idea how challenging it can be and dangerous. After few days during our business meeting our college from Jakarta realized us that your social status is determined by the owning of a car, if you have motorbike you are a middle class, pedestrian are nothing. We were nothing. From my observations motorbikes are kings in Jakarta. It’s probably more accurate to call them fire ants or swarm of beeps, in fact, because as a single unit they are nothing, but together they are a force to be reckoned with! #jakarta#indonesia#indo#bule#foreigner#travel#travelgram#traveling#traveler#indotravellers #🇵🇱 #🇲🇨🇵🇱 #jakartaroad#jakartaroads#jakartacar#jakartacars#jakartamotorbike#jakartatraffic#jakartatravel#jakartatraveller
"So here you are, too foreign for home, too foreign for here. Never enough for both." I read this poem a while ago and it really hit me. I guess all of us living in a foreign country have this feeling of displacement from time to time. No matter where you are try to make the best out of today. We won't have this day again tomorrow. We are where we are because we chose to. And in case you don't like where you are, move, you are not a tree. 😉 #abithomesick#foreigner#displacement#china#laowai#livingabroad#livingabroadlife#seizetheday#livetoday#china
How do you see yourself? How do you think others see you? Coming to #China always brings me into deep reflection on my #roots and what aspects have remained intact from the #motherland and what has shifted. The lens of the American #meltingpot is a complex one: being a #foreigner to my own country of origin unable to converse in the native language. Westernized media and other forms of cultural imperialism are widely evident despite Mao's cultural revolution and all the social upheaval that followed. What is being mirrored here in this #caricature ? This is located at a restaurant on a highly touristed street with international clientele serving authentic #Chinese food. But my sample size was too small to ascertain who's really being drawn in by this sidewalk diplomat. Have we really gone too far with all our political correctness and outrage over cultural appropriation if this is how we really see ourselves? While it's just one artists perspective and a non threatening one at that -- it's great food for thought and leaves much to chew on.
