I’ve never really liked my feet. I mean I love what they can do and how they’ve served my life and movement but aesthetically they’ve never been in line to win any beauty awards. A professional rugby career took care of that. 
I’m certainly not adding to my potential for foot modelling contracts in what I’ve put them through in recent months. As I go about trying to create extreme adaption on skin, strength and structure with the hundreds of kilometres covered per month. After a winter of running on snow and ice. The hammering they’ve taken from glass, thorns, brambles, nettles and now blazing hot tarmac. Pushing the pain barrier beyond what is sensible. 
However to date they haven’t let me down. They’ve met every challenge head on. They are becoming tough and super resilient. Despite an almost constant state of grime, open wounds, and ground in tar, giving them a hint of the indigenous, they are becoming unique in their function and now able to perform tasks that most modern human wouldn’t dream of. In turn my personal view of these humble hoofs is changing, regardless of what others might think. I keep seeing that image of the ballet dancer. Grace, pose and incredible movement on stage but in the locker room removing the slipper reveals a foot bloodied, covered in tape and with nails falling off. 
Believe it or not I have an extensive foot care regime. Twice daily soaks, massage, golf ball release, oils, potions and creams. All designed to keep them fit and able. It can take over 30 minutes to prepare them to hit the BJJ mats from a hygiene perspective. Still their look could take pride of place in the shire. 
So as I enter the final few weeks of prep for my walk I’m happy to say I’m proud of how far they’ve come and weirdly I’m trying to show my feet a little love and appreciation. Wether I’m able to complete the entire length of Ireland or not I know they’ve done their best and I’m looking at my feet in an entirety new light. Strange times to be saying such a thing. #wildfoot #coach #movement

I love lunges but lunges aren't for everyone. The wall leg press is a great alternative to lunges that is easy on the knees but tough on the core, hamstrings and glutes.

It's been a frustrating start to my new training plan as I'm being hampered by tendonitis at the back of both knees, plus yesterday I was hit with some weird allergy thing. The latter passing irritant aside, there's not a lot I can do to speed up recovery from the tendonitis, other than train selectively, do targeted stretches, and be incredibly patient - oh, and check-in regularly with my osteopath 🖒 But despite the hiccup/s, I'm staying positive - and still smiling!

🔥👉🏼Front Dumbbell Raise 👈🏼🔥
1️⃣Starting position: Pick a couple of dumbbells and stand with a straight torso and the dumbbells on front of your thighs at arms length with the palms of the hand facing your thighs.
2️⃣While maintaining the torso stationary (no swinging), lift the right dumbbell to the front with a slight bend on the elbow and the palms of the hands always facing down. Continue to go up until you arm is slightly above parallel to the floor. 
3️⃣Exhale while lifting the right dumbbell and pause for a second at the top. Inhale while returning back to the starting position with a great control over your weight as simultaneously lift the left dumbbell.
4️⃣Alternate between each arm and aim for a lighter weight plus stick to form/technique before increasing the weight❗️❗️❗️

Instead, try other sensitive areas like the eyes 🥊 Go for the eyes if it's reachable 👀 It won't be a pleasant feeling, trust me 😉 We all know the pain it causes when it happens to ourselves by mistake 😅

Quick tips: .

1️⃣Be conscious of the alignment of your spine to avoid injuries. Keep your head aligned with your spine as well. Deadlifts are a compound exercise so you will feel your lower back muscles being engaged but the main muscle engagement should be your hamstrings and your glutes. 
2️⃣ Push from the heels of your feet to engage the hamstrings and glutes. Keep one fluid motion extending upwards into a glute squeeze. 
3️⃣The angle of your knee bend will determine which part of the hamstrings is targeted.
4️⃣ Think about the muscles you’re targeting and keep them engaged through the movement. Concentrating mentally on the muscle will help you optimize the stretch. .

I like to do this as a warm up exercise to wake up my muscles for barbell Romanian Deadlifts (I lift heavier there) or as a finisher after lifting heavy (what I did today) doing low weights and just getting clean reps in.
