I come from a family of photographers.
There’s at least one in every generation, and I’m not even the first of mine. Discussing and critiquing each other’s work and process is second nature for us. Of course, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: I’ve always loved the peace and patience of photographing nature, just as my brother, parents, and grandparents did before me. These days, as I start to drift more and more into shooting wildlife, I can’t help but wish I had my family around to share their input. Grandpa stopping by for a morning coffee, not knowing I’d wind up dragging everyone into the living room while my dad blew up a photo on the big screen so we could all see it clearly. Dad would give his creative commentary and grandpa would identify species of my subject.
Instead, nowadays, I share my photos online and pilfer through the pages of guidebooks to ID my subjects as best as I can. You guys provide the creative and technical feedback, and together we discover new subjects to shoot in new places, with new styles. It certainly doesn’t replace the feeling I get from sitting down with my family to talk about photography, but it fills the void a little 💕 Thank you all for sticking with me, or joining along on this journey, as my art has changed quite drastically since this time last year when I finally really picked up the camera again ✌️
