My little homesteader helped collect the eggs (One, two, sree...), feed dinner to the ponies (Hi Buddy! Hi Girl!), and then we rewarded our hard work with a hike in the woods to see if we could find any snow (thankfully we came up short). This girl makes my heart straight up explode.
🌰 So many of our chestnut trees are still choccas full and not ready to pick yet! Where our farm is has been super hot and dry this year and we think this may be one of the reasons they still aren’t ready 🤔🌰 We have however, had plenty of beautiful chestnuts come in already and are waiting to be delivered to your homes! Will keep you posted on deliveries. #chestnuts#castañas#farmlife#farming#farmkids#trees#glutenfree#healthysnack#autumn
Sugar Honey is that kinda of chook. Last year in winter she left the flock and slept at our door for the all winter. We have a few isa brown chooks but the kids always know who she is. She is such a cool chook. Love ya sugar honey
Our children know where our food comes from, without a doubt. They have always wanted to be a part of the family event.
Part of this lifestyle 'event' is setting duck eggs as part of our sustainable meat source. These kids are taught how to select the best eggs for hatching, learn how to set the incubator, while learning the difference between hatching quail, chicken, and turkey eggs.
From there they are taught to set up a brooder and are responsible for feeding the birds. However, participating on butchering day is their choice.
If we happen to have a broody ready to hatch a clutch the kids love the daily experience of watching momma hen at work. Regardless, hatching day is always exciting for them, and us.
Oh hey friends, meet Jackpot. The lone survivor from two hatching attempts ❤️🐔🙌🏼 We are sooo excited! Hatched on Day 23....good thing we gave it a couple extra days 😉 I think we’re giving the incubator a break til next Spring! We are up to about 20 chickens 😳
Our little garden baby is the sweetest. She turned a year old a few days ago. Big sister is turning 3 in a few. Hard to believe a year has gone by since we delivered her little self beside an on ramp of interstate 16 between here and Savannah. Hard to believe @dr.mudd and I did that. These kids of ours are some of the most beautiful, miraculous, sanctifying things that have ever graced lives. The days are long. The days are rich and sweet and fulfilling. I’m thankful for new mercies every morning and grace for each day. #williamsfamilyhomefront
Everyday after school until dark the kids have been working with their 4H animals. #toodles is in her first year and doing so great! Both are calm, halter trained, lead & tie. Brushing and bonding is her favourite! Cookie (s & cream) and Twix are pretty special to her. #4hlife#simmental#farmkids
