Rug waddled over to where Fionna hid in the shadows. He was entranced every time he saw her, as his blindness faded away into visual acuity everytime she was near.
Her faerie magic also seemed to warm and loosen his old stiff joints, and he would smile in enchanted happiness at her.
As Rug's human looked in puzzlement at the interaction between dog and the unseen faerie, Fionna cast a ladybug to fly onto his arm, distracting him from wondering what he saw when he noticed the rose-pink glow of her wings.
Her relief at the ladybug ploy was short-lived when Rug's dog-hood took over momentarily, and he lifted his leg to pee.
All over her new white Rose petal boots.
Rug, being a male, didn't even notice his accidental soaking of Fionna's footwear, and when he turned to her with a kind gleam in his cloudy Opal coloured eye, Fionna immediately forgave him.
She shucked the ruined petal boots off and quickly flew to kiss him on the nose before his human stopped looking at the ladybug marching across his palm.
Rug's human saw her, she was sure. Fionna hadn't been careful with her wings. They sometimes gave off a pink iridescent glow when she was flying, especially in the sunshine, and Rug's human had whipped his head around in her direction as she flew in and out of the star jasmine.
She wouldn't have worried, but Rug had stared at her, her faerie magic making the cataracts obsolete. Rug's human saw the pink buzzing wings, and noticed Rug staring at the same exact spot.
She tried to wave him away, to get him to look in another direction, but Rug only wagged his wee tail at her.
Rug's human noticed that too.
