The past 2 weeks, we have been driving around on our foodieroadtrip which was made possible by the loan car provided by our business partner in Msia at Easy Autogate. This little beauty has been our savings grace taking us across states from Johor to Perak. The #peroduamyvi 1.5 manual is not only a reliable car, it is also very fuel efficient (hitting an average of 15km/litre on the highway and about 10.5km/litre going through constant traffic in the city). It has the power to overtake, pretty stable for a small car yet roomy enough to carry full passengers with luggage. The turning radius is excellent and thanks to its size, pretty easy to park. It has served us so well, it is only fair that we give it a good wash before we hand it back to its rightful owners. Thank you Chin & Michelle for giving us this chance to relive the good times we used to have going on weekend road trips with our friends and family to enjoy the food interstate. It’s something that we truly missed living in Melbourne and to be able to do it again really left us much recharged. For those looking for a good reliable car that can take you places without burning a hole in your wallet paying for petrol, the Perodua Myvi is your answer. If you don’t believe us who have been driving hundreds of kilometres in this beauty, why not take it for a test drive? I’m sure you would love it too. Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip in #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne because it’s far from over😍 #tripstagram #travelingcouple #travelgram #drivingaround #comeeatwithus #tourismmalaysia #asianslovetoeat #malaysiatrulyasia #perodua #followme #airbnbtravel #instagood #instafood #instatravel #ilovefood #traveldiaries #wanderlust #exploremore #happywanderers #compactcar #exploringmyhomecountry #foodcoma #cuticutimalaysia #jalanjalancarimakan

Known as “THE MAMAK WITH A KILLER VIEW”, Rani’s Corner at Taman Saga, 68000 Ampang Selangor is also one that serves authentic Indian food on top of others like roti salad “salad roll”, maggie goreng “fried instant noodles”, roti tissue “crispy thin flatbread drizzled in butter and sugar” and sup kambing “mutton soup”. The view that you get while enjoying the food is enough to get one intoxicated on the majestic beauty of KL City Centre. We were there when they were just starting to cook so this became a teaser trip for what we could have the next time we are back in KL. Thank you TC @tc7542 for taking the time to show us all the viewing points of KL City from around Cheras and Ampang. Can’t wait to be home again to try their food! At #waterviewhululangat where one can come for the scenic view while enjoying good food as added bonus. We had been snacking while shopping for stuff to bring home so couldn’t order much since it was close to dinner. The food nonetheless, were deliciously prepared in Thai style and came out super fresh, served with fragrant long grain rice. Guest are encouraged to feed the ducks, fish and together with the picturesque setting, you can feel your worries melt away. A great place for family gathering just a stone throw away from #kl. I’m glad that hidden gems like this place still exist for the city folks to enjoy. Too many skyscrapers turning the city into a concrete jungle so people need to seek respite where the eyes could feast on nature’s beauty. We felt amazingly refreshed just after an hour here. You should try it too. Free per view to anyone who dares to get down from their car. Fast traffic on the road but it was worth it because the view of #kl was bloody fantastic. Unfortunately I can’t reveal the exact location as it’s not safe and might cause a massive jam if everyone starts to stop by to take photos. In the name of peace and harmony, my 3 favourite people would like to apologise to all for the non-disclosure and encourage everyone to #saynoevil #seenoevil #hearnoevil Peace to all. The first time I saw Jessy @jcchris smile in person was when she came to surprise me during dinner at #curryleafrestaurant Damansara Jaya, secretly organised by our sneaky bestie, Junie @yenjunie Unknowingly, this gathering was turning into a serious session of hardcore food and succulent lovers as we found out that Jessy loves her banana rice nearly as much as the beautiful succulent collection she has at home. Oh btw, Jessy is the current “Succulent Queen” reigning on the “Plant & Garden Malaysia” FB page and a commercial scrapbook designer, so to actually meet her in person was indeed a treat. And best of all, our collage mate, Aida @darlingator is also into succulents and cactuses plus another creative soul who dwells in mixed media. To have all my dearest friends who are fans of banana leaf rice gather over a great meal was a blessing. We kept on ordering more and more food until the shy waiters became too familiar with our table, they immediately came even before we raise our hands to order more. The #bananaleafrice here was served with tasty condiments which they weren’t stingy to serve. The ala crate curries and fried dishes were cooked fresh and their garlic nan super crispy. Service was good because they were super attentive making the dining experience very pleasant. Snorts and loud laughter could be heard tables away because everyone was just having a good time. Thank you Junie, Jessy and Aida for spending precious time with us making our foodieroadtrip a memory to last a lifetime. From lunch to dinner, our foodie mate, Aida aka @darlingator kept to her promise to keep us company throughout the day. We headed out to #thecurvedamansara to walk off the extra pound or two, gained from lunch and had fun shopping together with @aiveeloh before she left for her dinner engagement. The crowd at Curve was madness so after deliberating on what we should review next, we decided on #littlepenangcafethecurve Ordered 2 #friedkueyteow and 1 #rojakbuah to share and although the rojak buah was spot on, the fried kueh teow could be a bit more burnt in order to make it more fragrant and tastier. Our rating for the complete experience is 8.5/10 because they were attentive and delivered the food in record time despite the crowd. Thank you Ivy and Aida for being our shopping buddies for the day. Truly appreciated🙏🏼. The quest to seek out new eating spots lead us to #alimuthuandahhock at Ara Damansara. It was relatively small joint favoured by locals and by the time we got there just after 12 noon, most of the dishes were already sold out😭. Nevertheless, we managed to get them to scrape up 3 plates of Nasi Lemak with “ayam goreng berempah”, “beef rendang” and fried eggs. The rice has the right amount of coconut milk without being too creamy which I think most of the health conscious foodies would appreciate. The fried chicken could do with a bit more herbs so that their flavours would pop out a bit more. For the locals within the area, this place is the go to hotspot for breakfast and lunch on weekend because there are ample parking around the area. If you want to check out this eatery, check their FB page under “Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock”. ***SWIPE FOR MORE PHOTOS*** Have you seen oysters as big as these? Nick and I were speechless because we are used to tiny ones that’s just 1/10 of these monsters! This is a tale of our road trip to #kualaselangor with our besties @yenjunie @tc7542 and @hmseen that was so full of giggles and laughter, we all had sore jaws even before reaching the restaurant. Restoran Kwang Wah came highly recommended by TC who is also a tour guide. His familiarity in choosing the seafood meant only one thing for us, we are in good hands so bring them on! The appetisers came in the form of trio of blanched shellfish, cockles and 2 types of whelk. Then came the oysters, spicy bamboo lala, Chinese steamed fish, belacan veg and two types of crabs cooked in sweet and spicy egg gravy and fried in salted egg batter. The big and thick flesh of the oysters made it a bit bland so you have to eat it well garnished. It is a bit chewy and not one you can just swallow in one gulp or you’ll surely choke! I do think that it is something that would make a good flavour and texture enhancer to your omelette or deep fried in garlic and curry leaves batter. Nevertheless, the 5 of us foodies had a great fun enjoying the food coupled with soft salty breeze while feasting our eyes on the picturesque scenery. The total bill was just above RM400 (around AUD130) which was including 2 rounds of drinks for all! If you are feeling famished after reading this and want to try them out, the address is No 1A, Jalan Bagan Sungai Yu,

Never leave #ipoh without it! The #pomelo fruit in Ipoh are mostly grown at farms surrounded by #limestonehill that made the soil rich in minerals needed for the trees to grow healthily. I love pomelo since young simply because they are BIG. I can be satisfied by just one fruit compared to peeling 10 oranges to enjoy those juicy pulps that I love so much. Ipoh is famous for their fruits that comes in 2 distinctive flavours, sweet or sour. I like them both so for me, no choosing was needed. Most of them are selling the fruits at 2 for RM50 (around AUD17) for the medium size ones and RM35 (around AUD12) each for the extra large ones. We got one each of the sweet and sour in medium size from a great lady at stall 16 which we have been buying from for years. For a simple guide on how to chose, check out this post:- https://www.malaysiavacationguide.com/pomelo.html We can’t be any happier with our impromptu road trip to Ipoh and would like to thank our childhood friend, Andre and his family for being our guides for the day making each step of the road trip a memorable one. It was also an awesome opportunity to meet up with the owner of Perak’s Best Performing Farm Award, @azrulazmi0106 to know more of the agricultural initiatives that’s ongoing since we have much interest to be part of it. Thank you Azrul for spending time with us despite your busy schedule. So that’s it folks, the end of our Ipoh adventure for now. Saving the best food that Ipoh is famous for to be on the menu for dinner was pure torture but well worth it. Before I get into dinner, let me tell you a bit of what took place within a short span of the last 2 hours. After tripsing around Concubine Lane and it’s surrounds, we had a short stop to sample the beverages and desserts at #planbipoh Its a hip cafe in a warehouse concept big enough for large parties and that super lazy Sundays reading the latest novel curled on their couches (yes, they have couches too and baby Miles had a good nap while we chatted). Red velvet cake was ok, nothing fancy and their “frosties” came with cool with names that intrigued us so we ordered them all. Pretty alright for putting a spin on something that otherwise would be JUST normal. To check out PlanB’s menu, click on http://thebiggroup.co/media/attachments/2018/01/05/plan_b2.0-menu-2018.pdf After PlanB, we decided to check out Ipoh’s best #taufoofah aka #soybeancurd served with white or brown sugar syrup. First we went to #woongkeebeancurd and then decided to compare it with another famous brand #funnymountainsoyabean Funnily, both tasted good to me (apologise that it was hard to chose one over the other) and their small servings left one contented without feeling heavy. With our stomachs half full, we decided it was time for the big meal at Ong Kee because we can then judge it rationally. #chickenrice is Ipoh city’s no 1 food, a spot that has gone uncontested for decades. Nothing fancy about it, just perfectly cooked chicken served with a plate of blanched beansprouts drizzled with soy sauce gravy and garnished with spring onions. What made them famous is the special way the chicken is cooked to perfection, the flavoursome gravy that further enhanced the taste of the chicken and the quality of beansprout used that’s so fresh as though they came straight from the farm. Took photos of Tuck Kee and Lou Wong which are the other 2 famous chicken rice shops. All 3 including Ong Kee will be serving at full capacity by 8:30pm. Long live chicken rice eh?

The 3 must visit lanes in Ipoh Old Town are “Wife Lane”, “Concubine Lane” and “1st Concubine Lane”. Originally build in 1892 by a Chinese Tin Tycoon, he gave the properties in these lanes to his 3 wives hence the names given. The building in these lanes were very much run down until the government set aside a budget to bring them back to life as part of tourist attraction for #ipoh I truly enjoyed exploring the city with my old faithful camera but since I don’t blog, let me share with you a link of an interesting write up by #eastasy :- https://www.eastasy.com/article/malaysia/ipohs-concubine-lane-where-historical-structures-meet-hipster-culture Happy traveling folks. Humpty Dumpty went on a Northern road trip. In Ipoh she ate almost bursting her pants zip. Unable to move she was told to slow down. Why not take a walk to check out the old town?

Humpty Dumpty went leaving everyone behind. And oh my, look at what treasures she find. Plain old walls painted in all manner of design. Giving life to once tired old town where food and art now entwine.

Humpty Dumpty got back squealing and laughing with glee. Oh my, you all should come to see them with me. What a great walk and now I’m feeling famish. So what’s next on the menu for us to ravish?
#ipoh is now filled with so many wall murals, it is in direct competition with #georgetownpenang making headlines in street art tourism. One of the wall murals with cars piling on top of each other truly depicts the parking issue that the city is facing and is advertising for a private car park. If you are in Ipoh for a day, best to park your car at a private car park that charges daily rate like this and #uber or just walk around the spots for easy travels. I fell in love with the hummingbird that was painted as though it is flying to perch on the tree, which is real by the way, a solid bench was put together under a painted branch full of local fruits and best of all, the wall mural where 3 friends were painted toasting a drink around an actual barrel as an outdoor advertisement for #kafeyoonwah All these wall paintings have a 3D affect which is the current trend and I really had a good exercise walking around Ipoh Old Town checking them out. #22halestreet you stole my heart at first sight. Believe it or not, this is the first time this self proclaimed “foodie” didn’t have any food photos to show!! Our big group of 8 adults and baby Miles were at 22 Hale Street for late lunch but none was able to take photos of the food because we were busy checking out the deco! We actually had 2 plates of “Nasi Kerabu”, 3 plates of “Char Kueh Tiow”, 2 plates of “Oyster Omelette” and 1 plate of “Rojak Buah” to share plus 10 servings of drinks. None took any photos because we were famished and ate everything at an amazing speed, clean plates were taken back to the kitchen in record time. Both the kerabu and kueh teow were ok, the rojak buah spot on, but the oyster omelette was a bit heavy on the egg which made the oysters seems drowning in them. The drinks were great and we had a fantastic time catching up while admiring the beautiful antique decor, put together by Puan Seri Dato’ Sandra Lee Wei Feng. The idea was to establish a gallery that showcase the history of Ipoh from the people’s point of view while promoting art as a collaborative culture. It also serves as a distribution point for the handy craft made by members of #persatuandaybreak a local #ngo that champions and creates opportunities for people with disabilities. Thank you @azrulazmi0106 for introducing us to this amazing place. I’m now itching to organise a private function here so someone quick hire me to plan your event! The ONLY right way to start the day when in Ipoh, have white coffee at Kedai Kopi Sin Yoong Long which is situated at 15A, Jalan Bandar Timah, 3000 Ipoh, a busy corner of the town due to many coffee shops around the area. What I’m trying to say is, to have coffee here, do prepare yourself to fight for a car spot because parking is a pain. This coffee shop only sells great coffee and a few other beverages to go with toasted bread with or without half boiled eggs and caramel custard which was pretty darn good. What food they don’t sell to satisfy your cravings, you can order from the opposite food stalls and ask them to deliver to you seated inside #sinyoongloong We had crispy Chinese pancakes which unfortunately were a bit too burnt for my liking but still tasty and bowls of curry mee delivered. All in all, it was a very traditional way of having breakfast which I sorely missed because my late grandpa used to take me to one a few doors away from our old house to drink coffee and have my toasted bread with butter and coconut jam which we called #rotikawin One thing to remember though, where there’s good coffee, there will be many people vying for your table so be kind to other customers by leaving once you’ve done eating. It’s the right thing to do too. Oh btw, this was our first day babysitting the new kid in the clan, “Miles Smiles”. For one who just got up after a 2 hour drive, Miles wasn’t grumpy at all. In 2 seconds after being passed to Nick, he was all smiles again. Could be that Uncle Nick’s infectious laugh got to him but seriously, baby Miles is one happy kid, everyone would love to cuddle and shower him with kisses. Ipoh, the capital of Perak was once a tiny village which experience a rapid growth thanks to the tin mining industry that started off in 1880. Its status grew and with it came the influx on population that expended the original boundaries. By 1895, it became the 2nd largest largest town within the Federated Malay States. Although tin mining is no longer a viable industry after its depletion in 1970’s, Ipoh has since enjoyed a prosperous growth and put itself on the tourist map as one of the must visit destination in Malaysia where one can explore Buddhist temples built inside limestone caves, admire beautiful #britisharchitecture of the buildings, sample its famous chicken rice and savoury biscuits or explore its famous theme park, #lostworldoftambun Even #lonelyplanet has a dedicated page on #ipoh and voted it as one of the best Asian destination to visit in 2016. Both Nick and I felt very at home in Ipoh, possibly because it is just like our hometown, #muar but on a larger scale. Last minute decision to do a road trip to Ipoh because we can. Also, we were told that it’s a great place to retire in Malaysia where you can still get affordable houses and good food. The air does seem cleaner here and best of all, we have a personal tour guide to lead us to the best places for food. On top of that, we are meeting up with Perak‘s most aspiring young farmer, @azrulazmi0106 over some delicious food, so yes, this is one trip we were lucky to have. Head out to #kompassion for the best #thaifusion food in #kl We were invited by Andre and JingEn to join their family for dinner and of course to have our long awaited introduction to baby Miles. Kompassion proved to be the perfect restaurant that delivered everything that they promised in terms of flavours, portion and presentation. Great place for lunch or dinner with family but finding a parking spot can be a bit tricky. We parked way further up the residential area in front of the playground and walked a few metres to the restaurant. It was very hard to chose the dish of the night because they were all good but after much discussion, we decided upon the duck, nuts and pomelo salad because it was truly delicious on its own. Don’t forget to try their delicious fusion desserts too because they were a class of their own. Suria KLCC is Kuala Lumpur’s shopping Mecca and Malaysia’s version of Harrods in London. You can get your hands on many designer items for both men and women as they have an impressive line up from #karllagerfeld to #dior #gucci #tiffanys and many more. It has garnered a huge following of die hard shoppers and diners as the number of in house restaurants there are pretty impressive too. Nick and I wanted to check out the shopping vibe and of course to see for ourselves how much more the food at the #rasafoodarena would cost after one has exhausted most of their funds shopping. Predictable Nick settled for his favourite chicken rice that cost RM8.90 and I went for a plate of the famous #nasikandar that came with 5 types of dishes; fried chicken, beef rendang, stewed turmeric cabbage, pickled cucumber and hard boiled egg plus a glass of limau ais that came to RM22. The flavours we got from these dishes were spot on, close to excellent in fact, which was surprising coming from a food court catering to a large quantity of hungry shoppers. So if you are out and about in the great KL and want to seek respite in a sheltered environment after an exhausting day exploring Petronas Twin Towers that left you super hungry, why not check out #suriaklcc like we did. Back in early 90’s, there was a buzz about Malaysia wanting to construct a huge, iconic superstructure that would take the country into the 21st century. Well, thanks to Prime Minister #tundrmahathir the idea was put into action and brought forth the highly acclaimed #petronastwintowers which were completed in 1996. 1st Jan 1997 marked a historical event when the employees of #Petronas moved into their new offices in Tower1. In 1999, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad officiated the grand opening of the Twin Towers in a mega event featured all over the world. Much to everyone’s amazement, the towers and sky bridge were also featured in the film #entrapment starring #seanconnery and #catherinezetajones which later gave rise to it being the chosen location for many more movies, computer game scenes and tv series. Tickets to the sky bridge are issued to the first 1000 visitors each day at RM85 each for non Mykad holders. There have been so many beautiful photos of the Twin Towers featured and I too want to be among the rest to share with you my take on capturing the buildings from different angles and perspectives. Still left me with a sense of pride and amazement whenever I look at them up close and personal. When I was in year 4, I was one of 20 kids singing #topoftheworld by the #carpenters on stage during a school performance. The moment we ventured outside onto the #kltowerskydeck I was overruled by emotions to belt out the lyrics at the top of my lungs because I felt so privileged to witness this sprawling scenic beauty especially with Nick by my side. When I was in year 4, I was one of 20 kids singing #topoftheworld  by the #carpenters  on stage during a school performance. Finally after all these years and just shy of hitting 50 years old, both Nick and I were fortunate enough to be part of statistics of millions of people who were lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful sceneries from the #skydeckkltower The day was just perfect for admiring the beautiful sprawling sceneries and at RM110 (around AUD 37) per person, it was a steal compared to the fun we had, feeling as though we were #ontopoftheworld There wasn’t a time limit imposed to how long you can be up there, so we really enjoyed every second exploring each viewing point trying to identify all the visible landmarks. If you have not been up #kltower we suggest that you score yourselves a ticket. We went up early in the morning because the weather was predicted to rain in the evening. If you are an enthusiastic photographer and have time to explore, try to find a good day to go up in the afternoon so that you can continue on to capture the perfect sunset casting its glow over KL. That, ladies and gents, still remain as one of the things to do in my bucket list😍. This is Nick, my partner in crime, my rock and strongest supporter of all my crazy adventures. Once a very shy boy, Nick has outgrown that side of him and is now a super outgoing guy who loves #durian the #kingoffruits which I had lost interest in because I fell so sick after overeating them, I was hospitalised for a week. It happened when I was a kid but the memory of having to take lots of medication and being on a drip lingered, so until today, I won’t eat them. So ladies and gents, if you want to know what makes a great marriage, this is it. The ultimate sacrifice to love and endure stinking burps, farts and snores of your partner plus even crack open the fruit so that he can continuously eat non stop. Love ya @nicktan.69 Btw, don’t you think Nick makes a great model for #durianss2 coz I think these photos speak louder than any words could on how much he was loving his time eating the fruit 😍Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #tripstagram #travelingcouple #travelgram #theresnoplacelikehome #tourismmalaysia #asianslovetoeat #malaysiatrulyasia #drivingaround #followme #airbnbtravel #instagood #instafood #instatravel #welcometokl #traveldiaries #wanderlust #exploremore #happywanderers #exploringmyhomecountry #kualalumpurmalaysia #explorekualalumpur #hesmyworld #myhusbandlovesdurian #cuticutimalaysia

When the Yews and the Tans get together, nothing else matter. #smarttunnel where have you been all my life? Our foodie road trip has taken us to many places but we were in for a great surprise upon entering the big city #kualalumpur Back when we were still living in Malaysia, the constant traffic jam was considered a norm that one can’t escape. To meet a potential client in KL at 3pm means hitting the road 3 hours before if your office is in Melaka, just in case you have to face crazy traffic. Fast forward 13 years to the day we were driving up to #dmajesticplacebyswissgarden at Jalan Pudu, close to the heart of KL via Jalan Tun Ismail. Yes, there was traffic after the toll booth but then they all MAGICALLY disappeared thanks to the introduction of SMART TUNNEL! It was so long (more than 5 minutes driving time), I began to wonder what have we gotten ourselves into, but, the moment light filled our vision which gradually cleared to reveal the #berjayatimessquare building, we knew we had hit the jackpot for escaping at least an hour of teeth grinding traffic. Both Nick and I laughed so loud at our good fortune we forgotten that we had arrived too early for our check in. A quick phone call to the management ensured that everything was cool so an early check in only means one thing - it’s party time with the bestie and her family and we are going to eat our way to foodie heaven. Ending our #melaka day trip on a high note by paying tribute to one highly respectable seafarer, #laksamanachengho who was considered one of China’s best admiral known for leading a shipping fleet 7 times around 30 countries within the Malay archepalago, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, much before #christophercolumbus made his maiden voyage. Being a #muslim #chengho was said to be the influential figure to spread Islam in Asia. If he’s alive today, he would be known as one cool dude, loved by the Chinese emperor and the people who welcomed him around the world. I would have loved to meet him in person, listening to his sailing adventures, encountering waves as high as a mountain and sky so black, they thought the morning had turned into night in just mere seconds. When Cheng Ho was alive, Melaka was at its peak as a trading port and it was said that there were 800 languages spoken on its soil. I just can’t imagine how grand it was back then with all the great Dutch and Portuguese architecture adding a contrasting beauty to the traditional Malay buildings, nor could I picture the nobles attired in their finest silk and brocade walking along the wharf inspecting the goods that just sailed in. Well one thing for sure, I will always remember Melaka as our ultimate destination to look for school uniforms and new clothes for Raya and later on as the place to go to for its great range of food especially the #loklok aka #sataycelup which we didn’t get to try on this trip. Fingers crossed we get to go home again soon. Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #cuticutimalaysia

With such a rich history being ruled by foreign powers and as the preferred trading port by sea traders, it is to no surprise that many of the foreigners fell in love with the local women and ended up calling Melaka their home. Most prominent among them were the Chinese traders and the middlemen acting between the British, Chinese and Malays whose inter-racial marriages to the local Malay women gave birth to children of #peranakan descent, known as #baba (male) and #nyonya (female). They normally adopt the local customs to assimilate themselves into the society, most famously known for wearing beautifully embroidered Nyonya Kebaya that has since been an icon for the nyonyas of Melaka. For all foodies out there, you should also take note that the Melaka Peranakans are also well known for their delicious cuisine and for that, we decided to pay homage to them by trying out the food at #nancyskitchen at Taman Kota Laksamana, Melaka. It was indeed a delight to try out an authentic Peranakan restaurant and to say that we had a blast was an understatement. We got ourselves a plate of “Pai Tee”, the Peranakan entry made of thin, crispy tart shell, filled with thinly sliced vegetables and poached prawns then topped with spicy, sweet sauce. For mains we got ourselves the “Nyonya Laksa” and for desserts, the traditional Nyonya kuih calked “ondeh ondeh” and “seri muka”. So satisfied with the food served, we decided to take home a few dishes, “pineapple & prawns in coconut broth”, “belacan four angled beans”, “deep fried fish fillet with spring onion” and the “nyonya chang” to share with Nick’s folks who couldn’t join us on this excursion. The prices we paid for these delicacies were so affordable, we wish we were hungrier so that we could try all the dishes. Thankfully, we do go home often, and there’s always a next time to try the rest. If you are a foodie who loves bold flavours, do yourselves a favour by trying out the Peranakan cuisine of Melaka. Best food money could buy yo! Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #cuticutimalaysia

***Swipe For More Photos*** Refreshed after 2 cans of Kickapoo, we decided to explore the small park beside the #dutchsquaremelaka after chatting to the cafe owner who told us that there’s a plane parked there as tourist attraction. Well, when we got there, I was drawn more to the huge tree than the plane because it has got such a character and so artistically pleasing to the eyes. I longed to climb up those limbs but Nick told me that it might not be appropriate since there were people around. Hmmmmm, can’t say I was a happy Jan because the monkey in me just wanna have fun whistling high up in that tree. This small park has got a mini go kart for kids, a decommissioned train turned a souvenir shop, a bull cart sculpture and the small plane on display. Watch out for kids zooming past in the go karts when you are walking around because they can just appear around the bend without notice. When in Spain, one should try their paella but if you find yourself at #jonkerstreet #melaka the number one food that you must try is the #chickenriceball Hoe Kee is not known for their delicious chicken or for serving an extensive menu, yet, we decided that our next meal was to be there because one thing for sure, they are well known for their delicious and super tasty rice. Yup, you heard me right, we went there specifically for their rice. Might sound a bit weird but trust me, we have not lost our minds after walking all over #dutchsquaremelaka in the scorching sun. The truth is, we have heard so much about Hoe Kee’s tasty rice, we wanted to test for ourselves whether it was delicious enough to be eaten on its own. Boy oh boy, the rice came in perfect small balls and so tasty, they were indeed bloody good just on their own. To take the flavours to another level, enjoy the rice drizzled with sweet soy sauce and a healthy dose of chilli made specially for chicken rice. After all that walking and sweating out a storm, this was indeed a much needed meal to refuel our energy. Nick said since we didn’t get to take any photos with the windmills when we were in Amsterdam, this one is as good a consolation as one could get! The windmill of Melaka is just a few metres to the left of Hard Rock Cafe Melaka after you cross the bridge. It will be the first heritage icon that welcomes you as you step foot into the #dutchsquaremelaka area. It represents the time when the Dutch had a firm grip over #melaka during the years between 1641-1845, also known as the longest time Melaka was under foreign power despite many attempts from the British to seize control. It’s really mind boggling and super interesting to know that hundreds of years ago this tiny plot of land was so much sought after due to its extreme popularity as a spice hub. If only I have the power to turn back time, I would love to experience the olden days when Melaka was at its highest potential as a port of dreams to all the shipping traders. The smell of spices, the touch of silk and sights of people of different nationalities would definitely be so interesting to write about, but alas, it’s just another one of my my dreams, destined to never turn into reality. Although small in size, the #queenvictoriafountain outside #christchurchmelaka is so impressive, it draws upon everyone’s attention the moment you exited the church. Built in 1901 by the British, the fountain is made of marble and located in the middle of the #dutchsquare #melaka It was constructed as a commemorative tribute to Queen Victoria and could possibly be the only landmark item in the whole of Malaysia that provides an excellent backdrop reminding us of the glory days of British colonisation in Msia. I was squealing with laughter when I saw these heavily decorated #trishaw outside #christchurchmelaka because I know, my girlfriend, @shanis_tan would be so stoked if she could ride in the one decked completely in #hellokitty It cost RM40 for a ride around the historical buildings complete with music blaring from the speakers. The riders are also well versed acting as tour guides commenting on the sights that you encounter along the journey. If you have never ridden a trishaw, please try it because it is an experience that’s not easily forgotten. Shanis, this post is definitely dedicated to you and your love for Hello Kitty😘. #dutchsquaremelaka is made of a set of old Dutch buildings built between 1640-1700 that are painted in terracotta red, is an iconic landmark for #melaka Besides #christchurchmelaka you’ll find #thestadhuys being the other prominent building in the area with its high steps leading to the main entrance. Among the fruit, water and ice-cream sellers that lined the steps, I encountered a petite girl in headscarf, crouching low in acute concentration painting her customer’s hand with precision brush strokes dipped in henna ink. It was mesmerising seeing her carefully made out the chosen design in under 3 minutes and how happy her customer was with the outcome. Formerly used as administrative building, today The Stadhuys (Dutch word for city hall) house a few museums and galleries that are open to public at a small fee. I used to read history because I have to pass my school exams but as I get older, I realise that I actually enjoy reading up old scriptures of places that I can relate to. Take the history of #melaka as an example. It is something that was taught in our primary school education system but to a young kids perspective, the text book was too dry and unremarkable to be understood comprehensively. Now that I’m older and able to grasp the historical timeline and significance of events that took place hundreds of years ago, I find the history of Melaka extremely enchanting. The name “MELAKA” was born out of an incident that took place back in early 1400. In a nutshell, the legend of Melaka has been penned as a prince of Palembang descent known as #parameswara whom had earlier fled from the #majapahit invasion of #singapore where he ruled previously, made his way up the coast until he reached a village at the mouth of Bertam River (original name for Malacca River). There, while taking shelter under the #malaccatree he got captivated by a scene of how a mouse deer outsmarted his hunting dogs. The incident lead him to view the location to be a suitable site to build a kingdom because even the animals were smart. He later named it Melaka after the tree that he was leaning against when he witnessed the momentous event. Today, the Malacca Tree aka #phyllantusemblica are planted around the state not only to represent its historical link but also for its beauty and ability to provide great shade from the scorching sun. Back when I was growing up, the view of this area flanked by the #melakariver was totally different because no one wants to feast their eyes on anything due to the stinking river water that’s so bad, you would gag just at a whiff of the air. More than 20 years has passed since I’ve been to Melaka and today, this picturesque shot is what I could proudly showcase. No more rubbish nor dead animals floating in the river. The massive clean up organised by the government has paid off because today, the river is looking so healthy and clean, it was a joy just standing by the railing looking at the views as the #melakarivercruise boats passes by. Originally built by the #dutch back in 1741 it took 12 years for the construction to complete and then named the Bovenkerk (upper church) in 1753. The signing of the #anglodutchtreatyof1824 that took place saw the church and many other Malacca possessions being transferred to the #britishindiacompany In 1838, the church was re-consecrated with the rites of the Church of England and renamed Christ Church. Originally painted in white, it was painted red in 1911, a distinctive colour scheme that has remained the hallmark of Malacca's Dutch-era buildings ever since. Today, Christ Church Melaka serves as an #anglicanchurch with 3 #sundayservices welcoming worshippers from all over the world. OMG I feel so old yet so inspired when I came across the #mameejonkerhouse which is the concept store for the #mamee brand of products. The mamee snack is my favourite since childhood and is proudly manufactured in #melaka There is a history between us too because after my year 11 exams in 1989, I was working as part of the delivery team for a printing company in Muar and we would drive the van to deliver printing materials to the #mameedoubledecker factory at Air Keroh, Melaka. Those were the best days of my life feeling carefree after a major school exam and earning money working. Today, almost 30 years have past since those carefree days and seeing that they actually have a concept store that showcase the best of their products under one roof really made my heart swelled with pride. It was hot and we were sweaty. On my mind there was only 1 thing that we must do that is to locate #jonker88 to try their #famouschendol Technically the shop wasn’t that hard to spot as its bright red banner awning flapped in the wind shading the few people queuing outside the shop waiting to get a table. If you have been following our journey, you’d know that we are not really the patient kind of people to wait around especially when a prized chendol is at stake! Nick told me that he saw people walked in to the back of the shop and off he went to investigate. Within 3 minutes, he reappeared with a bowl of chendol in his hand, drizzled with golden brown palm sugar syrup that seemed to call out to me “N, N, taste me quick”. Despite the many onlookers, Nick and I gobbled and slurped the whole bowl within seconds, all the while standing up. The verdict, the best tasting chendol we’ve had so far, served in its original form. The coconut milk was super creamy, strings of chendol slightly firm and springy and the palm sugar syrup superbly heavenly. The moment we finished the first bowl, Nick went back for another and that too, was gone in seconds. So folks, we hereby declare that all the raving reviews are totally legit and because of that you MUST visit Jonker88 for its amazing chendol the next time you are in Melaka. Welcome to #melaka. This state in Malaysia is most famously known as the historical state #melakabandarayabersejarah thanks to its rich and colourful past. The #malaccasultanate ruling of the state back during the 15th century was cut short by the Portuguese who gained control on 24th August 1511. Later on the Dutch came to wage war and seized control of Melaka on 22nd January 1753. Unfortunately, they were then overthrown by the British on 17th March 1824 which in actual fact brought lots of improvements such as better education system and modernisation in terms of sanitation and architecture. Unfortunately it didn’t last long and for the last time, the state was under the Japanese occupation from 15th January 1942 until it became part of the #federationofmalaya in 1948. And because of the many aspect of cultural influences, the state of Melaka was declared a #unescoworldheritagesite on 7th of July 2008. We arrived in Melaka early and started our #melakaadventure by exploring #jonkerwalk which was still brightly lit with red ornaments from the earlier #chinesenewyear2018 celebration. The whole place looked so festive and I for one just had to capture its vibrancy in a frame. Our only problem is that there are so many of them to fit into our limited schedule, we have to be a bit more selective on what we try at each state that we visit. One place in #melaka called #jonker88 was recommended many times by different individuals, we decided that it has to be explored no matter what. So off we went hitting the road again in search for the best #chendol in the whole of #melakabandarayabersejarah Stay tuned for more stories on our #foodieroadtrip around #malaysia and #singapore by following @2nsinmelbourne #tripstagram #travelingcouple #welovefood #travelgram #theresnoplacelikehome #passionforfood #tourismmalaysia #malaysiatrulyasia #drivingaround #followme #airbnbtravel #instagood #instatravel #instafood #traveldiaries #wanderlust #exploringmyhomecountry #thisplaceilove #malaysianig #exploremalaysia #malaysiaroadtrip

#asianslovetoeat and there’s nothing in life more glorious than being served freshly cooked seafood, you could practically see the steam drifting up as they carry the plates to your table. Salted egg crumbed squid, buttered prawns, steamed fish and chilli prawn paste vege were consumed within minutes yet their flavours lingered in our minds throughout the night. Need I say more? FYI this wasn’t cooked by a fancy restaurant with a big signboard but rather by a guy who’s trying to make ends meet looking after his 2 kids because his wife ran away with another man. I personally think the wife is loco for deserting a man who can cook as well as him because I would be contented to just eating salted egg crumbed seafood for the rest of my life! Well what can I say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison and the people of #portdickson is lucky that this guy is here to stay cooking up a storm for his loyal customers. The tiny place doesn’t really have a name and only known to locals so the next time my inlaws go over, I’ll ask them for the location details to update this post. We got the sentiment that the 14th General Election is on the horizon when the roads we travelled on were planted with party flags on both sides nearly everywhere we went. Choose wisely and let’s make Malaysia great again. #Throwback to me being all #awkward talking to a little bunny preparing it/him/her for the photo that I actually wanted to take 😅 This was taken at the most awesome "Heurigen" close by #Gmunden. A "Heuriger" is something typically austrian you'll find all over the countryside: it's usually farm, selling all kinds of homemade food and drinks (yam!) where you can play with farm animals, it's the most fun and delicious experience for old and young ❤

Hopewell Rocks situated at the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. They are formations caused by tidal erosion. They stand at 40-70 feet tall. The bay of Fundy is known for having the highest tidal range in the world.
This was my second time visiting. I didn't think I would be back. It was nice to be back! How many times do you get to walk on the ocean floor eh!? 😊
