Record Store Day was more Moving Sale Day as I avoided carefully all record stores today and just enjoyed the beginning of the garage / yard / moving sales season. Found some great stuff at the moving sale of a recording studio in Boston. There were just 2 boxes of records but was delighted to find an amazing record by Alice Coltrane « Huntington Ashram Monestary » where she plays with Ron Carter and Rashied Ali. Also found 2 nice « Drum Drops » and last but not least a really weird and obscure one. It is called « Minstrels and Minimoog » and is a late 80´s private press from musicians of the University of Colorado lead by Gregory TS Walker on Moog and electronic drums. Has anyone see it before? Couldn’t find any info online... The composer is now a Professor of music at the University of Colorado but his discography listed online omits this early work.
Ron Geesin- Electrosounds ( KPM - 1972) I strangely found this record on the side of the road in the middle of the desert in mint condition ...one of the strangest digs I can remember...and it’s one of the few library records I have held on to. Ron Geesin started his career as a Jazz musician in the early 60’s and later went on to working with Pink Floyd on Atom Heart Mother and with Roger Waters on the soundtrack ‘ music from the body’ featuring sampled sounds of the human body. In addition to being a polymath synth wiz, he has also long held an interest in found sounds #musiqueconcrete and sampling. He released both electrosound 1 and electrosound 2 on #kpmrcords and also released several #experimentalmusic#electronicmusic albums throughout the 70’s on his one-man record label Headscope.
