My next read is #thesixthextinction by #elizabethkolbert #pulitzerprizewinner A look into the anthropocene.
You guyyyyyuuuys this book. It’s so crazy interesting. I’m only three chapters in and I am loving it - it feels suspenseful like a mystery novel despite you knowing kinda exactly where it’s leading. Anyway check it out! #thesixthextinction #elizabethkolbert

I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD BE READING THIS! ☝☝
Readers will come away with an appreciation of the truely extraordinary moment in which we live 🌎 #thesixthextinction #unnaturalhistory #elizabethkolbert

An #environmentalanthropology class brought this book to my attention initially. But,  as is the case for most college students,  my book load that semester was much too hefty for me to realistically be able to fully read everything assigned to me 📚📚 #thereareonlysomanyhoursinaday
This book didn't get the full attention that it absolutely deserves,  which is why I am revisiting it now! 🤓☕💚

#asextaextincao #elizabethkolbert #darwin #charlesdarwin #kpg #biologia #geologia
The Sixth Extinction (2014) by Elizabeth Kolbert is a shocking nonfiction wake-up call about what humans may be doing to earth. The book won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.
As a geologist, I studied the 5 known extinctions that earth witnessed over geologic time, and this book was a shocker (I read it last year and my first thought was that this journalist may have well submitted her book manuscript for a Ph.D. dissertation). Moreover, Kolbert writes for the layperson in a very very reader-friendly style.
Before anybody gives me politically-inspired hate and call me a pinko tree hugger; find the book and read it. It will only take a day or so, cuz it's very difficult to put down.

Lido! 3/5.

#thereadersbooknook day 27: A book that got me thinking. After reading the Pulitzer prize winning The sixth extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert, a book that is basically about the destruction and havoc mankind has caused to the diversity of our planet, I couldn't help but quote Giles' classic phrase from BtVS; The earth is doomed. 😐
.
This is not a happy book, but I very much loved it. Even though it made me cry many times, and non-fiction books usually don't have that effect on me. But I'm a sensitive soul who can't read about the ongoing extinction of frogs and other amphibians without bursting to tears. The book's message is important: there have been five great extinctions already in the history of our planet, and probably there will be one for humans too, especially if we continue down this road of polluting and overcrowding the earth.
.
What kind of non-fiction books do you like to read? I'm a sucker for books about nature, behaviour of animals, and especially evolutionary biology, it's a subject I would love to know tons of more about. 🤓

I haven’t #geekedout over a #book this hard in awhile but no need to take my word for it! With a #pulitzerprize and rave review from #billgates (plus I discovered it from a recommended #reading list from #standford ), this is obviously worth a #read. It’s tragic and disturbing while also comforting (from #earth ‘s own perspective of being self renewing - the ultimate #draintheswamp 😂). Mostly, I found it fascinating how aware we’re able to be of all that has come before us (of things hardly even aware of themselves, much less of any proceeding eras of earth’s history) and yet so single handily causing such traumatic change to our own landscape. #historyrepeatsitself isn’t just a saying for #humanhistory, but for all of our #worldhistory - and I believe we are falling victim to ourselves! #elizabethkolbert #thesixthextinction

#bookreview #reading
Each chapter of #thesixthextinction by #elizabethkolbert could be it's own little essay on a unique topic. At the same time the chapters inform each other. The last chapter wouldn't be what it is without the first chapter. In a relatively short amount of reading the book covers a great wealth information from different times and places around the world. Very engaging read.
Of course, some readers might find the jumpy chapters distracting. While reading this I found the style enjoyable though. By the end of chapter two I was curious about what new information chapter three would introduce, partially because I think it was a deliberate move on her part to showcase a topic that is complex but still use specific examples of different phenomena --- This book serves as a good introduction for anyone interested in learning more about #climatechange and the #environment

Questions answered:
What's the #anthropocene and why is this book welcoming me to it in chapter five?
What's #oceanacidification ?? Why is it the evil twin of #globalwarming ?!
How are humans changing the worlds environment?

“Right now, in this amazing moment that to us counts as the present, we are deciding, without quite meaning to, which evolutionary pathways will remain open and which will forever be closed.” #thesixthextinction #elizabethkolbert #bookoftheweek #bookrecs #nonfiction #wildlife #conservation
🤔🗿 #actnow #change #action #now #elizabethkolbert #book #mustread #citizenscience #sciencepourtous

Some people love Surf, Sand, and Sun. I prefer Beach, Beer, and Book. NASA just called; my feet have been classified as the most reflective surface known to man!
