As a teen, I couldn’t wait for the latest issue of Tiger Beat magazine for the pictures of Michael Lembeck as Kaptain Kool and Parker Stevenson as Frank Hardy. These Hardy Boys dolls were made by Kenner in 1978 as tie-ins for the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries TV show #hardyboys #parkerstevenson #shauncassidy #pamelasuemartin #janetlouisejohnson #franklinwdixon #edwardstratemeyer #books #vintagebooks #classictv #saturdaymorningtv #mysteries #vintagetoys #vintagecollectibles #tvcollectibles #dolls #dudeswithdolls #1970s #70s #kennertoys #actionfigures

Happy Birthday to my favorite fictional detective (although you’ve always been real to me), Nancy Drew! The Secret of the Old Clock debuted 88 years ago today (April 28, 1930). I owe much of my literary life to Edward Stratemeyer and his syndicate. Thank you, all you Carolyn Keenes. • • •

🚨IT Star Sophia Lillis Headlining Nancy Drew Film🚨 -

After seeing off Pennywise the Dancing Clown in IT, one of the Losers club is going to portray an iconic literary character. Sophia Lillis has been tapped to star as teenage detective Nancy Drew in an upcoming Warners Bros. movie. Described as a “blockbuster,” the feature-length film Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is expected to reintroduce the young sleuth for modern audiences and will start filming soon. Nancy Drew was the fictional creation of writer Edward Stratemeyer, who envisaged her as a female equivalent to his Hardy Boys. She first appeared in books during 1930 and was originally a 16-year-old high school graduate who successfully solved crimes, although she was later re-written to be slightly older. The character was always marked by her keen intellect and red-haired appearance. Each of the books were ghost-written by a variety of authors under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene. With various interpretations and adaptations, the character became something of a cultural icon, and is still held up today by many as an important character for feminist qualities. Now Deadline has reported that Lillis will play the title character in this latest attempt to bring her to the screen. It is reportedly a cinematic adaptation of one of the earliest stories called The Hidden Staircase, from the second volume of the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories first published in 1930. It was written by Mildred Wirt Benson and involves mysterious disappearances and thefts occurring in local mansions. Although little is known about the plot or time-period for this new film, it’s likely to take some elements from several of the other stories. There is no news yet as to the director or rest of the cast, although Ellen DeGeneres is one of the producers and it’s believed to be starting production shortly.

Deadline is reporting that Sophia Lillis has been tapped to play the title role in Warner Bros. Pictures' "Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase." No screenwriter or director is currently attached to the project, which will be based on the Mildred Wirt Benson book of the same name. The book follows "a pair of elderly sisters and their strange experiences in their Victorian-era house, leading to the duo being accused of murder. Nancy must act quickly to save the sisters from jail." The book was first adapted in the 1939 William Clemens-directed film which starred Bonita Granville as the titular character. Warner Bros. released a reboot based of the book series in 2007 titled "Nancy Drew," which was directed by Andrew Fleming and starred Emma Roberts as the title role. Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman and Chip Diggins will produce the adaptation, which is expected to start filming next month. Wendy Williams will executive produce. What are your guy's thoughts on Sophia Lillis set to star in "Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase"? #NancyDrewAndTheHiddenStaircase #SophiaLillis #Adaptation #WarnerBrosPictures #MildredWirtBenson #EdwardStratemeyer #CarolynKeene #EllenDeGeneres #JeffKleeman #ChipDiggins #WendyWilliams #EmmaRoberts #WilliamClemens #BonitaGranville #AndrewFleming #Deadline

Happy 155th #literarybirthday to Edward Stratemeyer! 🎉

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Stratemeyer was the youngest of 6 siblings to German immigrants. He was a fan of the classic 'rag to riches' literature and published his first book of similar genre , "Richard Dare's Venture" (1894) and became an editor for Gilbert Patten's Good News. In 1905, he founded Stratemeyer Literary Syndicate and hired a staff of writers and editors. He is a modern publishing maverick, pioneering book packaging techniques and attributed to the love of series-length novels. Under his company, he published over 500 MILLION books. The syndicate is responsible for such novel series such as "Nancy Drew", "The Hardy Boys", and "Tom Swift". He died in Newark, NJ with 7 pseudonyms at 67.

This is my used bookstore hall from yesterday! Picture #2 is Nancy Drew Files: Two Points to Murder (1987). Picture #3 is The Hardy Boys Casefiles: Real Horror (1993). This one looks super interesting, and is about a horror book writer (which looks to be a spoof on Stephen King!) whose books seem to be coming to life. Picture #4 is Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller: The Alien Factor (1993). There were only 2 of these books published. They were a spin-off of The Hardy Boys Casefiles and the Tom Swift IV series. They joined boy inventor Tom Swift with the crime solving Hardy boys, Frank & Joe. If you've never heard of Tom Swift, he was another character from the Stratemeyer Syndicate. They were science fiction and adventure books that emphasized science, invention, and technology. They were first published in 1910, and there has been 5 different Tom Swift series. He has most recently been seen in the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys: Big Lie comic books! Picture #5 is a Econo Clad Library Edition of The Hardy Boys: The Sign of the Crooked Arrow (1st publication 1949). I haven't been able to find much about these, but I found some information about the Nancy Drew ones. They were probably bound during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Most of them have a sticker on the front cover indicating that they were bound by American Econo-Clad Services in Topeka, Kansas.  Most copies contain the revised text, and the cover illustrations used are those from the 1970s Grosset and Dunlap hardcovers.  The cover illustration is glued to the front cover, and the back cover is plain.  Picture #6 is a Hardy Boys Book Club Editions. #1, 2, and 3 were issued in a book club edition around 1976.  These books have dust jackets, unfortunately it's hard to still find them intact. The books are solid blue with the title on the spine. Each book is identified as a book club edition on the front flap of the dust jacket. So there you have it, my most recent Stratemeyer Syndicate book hall!! #nancydrew #thehardyboys #hardyboysbooks #nancydrewbooks #tomswift #stratemeyersyndicate #edwardstratemeyer

I found some awesome oldies but goodies at the used bookstores I visited this week📚 This one is written by "Franklin W. Dixon" (pseudonym) who also wrote The Hardy Boys. This book was published in 1928! I'll post another one of its cover soon. 😍

Happy #socksunday!
I have been having so much fun with this tag the past few weeks. ☺️ Today, I wanted to feature one of my all-time favorite series: Nancy Drew! I fell in love with these books many years ago, and the love still continues to this day. I have close to 100 Nancy Drew books, all of the PC game series, countless other memorabilia, and I've seen every single movie and television adaptation. I even went as Nancy Drew for Halloween one year (although very few people could tell who I was. 🙈😜)! Nancy Drew is going to be one of those series I love forever. Which book or series is like that for you?
