The little details over at #troubledmonkbrewery make this place amazing. The people who work here make this their own and it comes through the moment you step through the door. Thanks for the hospitality. #edmontonhomebrewersguild
Making sure that 2018, the #YearofCollabs , starts off right on a pair of beers with @chelseatessier5 and @mikekasun. Two double batches on the new HERMs recirculation, Frankenstein system, run by magic and goblins. Still got some kinks to work out, but she's up and running better than I could have dreamed. I'm looking at you #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild , we've got capacity over here in the brew den, let's brew something and give #breweroftheyear something to remember us by.
The results of a productive night, everything kegged is now bottled, with special mention to @princessfawny for the assist. Samples will abound at the #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild meeting tonight, so be sure to put in an appearance.
Both of Saturday's beers are currently fermentating away happily, with a little more lag from the West Yorkshire in the porter, but the back of the garage smells pretty good.
Transferring the Helles from it's place on the lagering table to a keg. Finally. She came in a hair too big, but that's a nice beer well worth the time and carboy space. I'll let @yegbierfrau point out the flaws to me at the #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild meeting on Monday, but I know for my part I've got to get another lager underway soon.
Tonight was bottling day at Lucky Luchyk Brewery. Bottled the Hoppen Hive Mead. We wound up with 25 450 ml bottles and 6 650 ml bottles. One of the 650 ml bottles has a piece of a bourbon barrel that came from a bottle of @righanddistillery un aged corn whisky. (This one is going to sit for at least 6 months)
This bad boy was brewed back in July 2017.
Aprox ABV: 14.6%
Now about 2 more months in the bottle before I can test the results.
After boiling off some of that extra water it's time for the 60 minute addition of Northern Brewer and a stick of genuine Sri Lankan cinnamon (which smells amazing, if you haven't checked out @silkroadyeg yet absolutely do so, I've got brew ideas for days.
So we're back to winter brewing and it's really thrown off my temperature; luckily following the Imperial Micro Stout with @yegbierfrau and @chelseatessier5 I've returned to sparging as a habit so there was plenty of water to prevent this from being a really, really dry Winter Ale.
Last weekend's "Imperial Micro-Stouts" seem to be settling in at about 6%. I'm holding them at 21°C until they finish off; they're not going to make it this month, but expect them for the #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild December Meeting.
I decided to attempt my first lager and this one is Vienna style made with @redshedmalting Rocky Mountain malt! #drinklocal
This one is two and a half weeks into fermentation. Just completed a diacetyl rest and transferred to secondary for another couple weeks of lagering. Already tasting fantastics so I might become impatient 😋 #homebrewing#yegbeer#edmontonhomebrewersguild
Creeping up to strike temperature on a Best Bitter Brew day, the first in a month-long run of English styles for the #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild , BJCP study team. Make sure you show up on November 6th to explore my entirely self-proclaimed wheelhouse (and see if I have reigned in my acetaldehyde problem).
For anyone playing at home, this is absolutely not the way to do this. To figure out how to do it intellegently go ask @yegbierfrau; I know that I will be doing so next Monday at the #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild kickoff. Otherwise, stay tuned as "Night at the Improv; Achtymichuk's Crabapple Cider" continues to slowly drip into a bucket.
Looks like the Lichtenhainer is *just about* finished carbonating. Meaning Canada Post is going to have it into the #membersofbarleyment with prefect timing (as usual). I've got to say, I was on the fence about a smoked sour, but goddamn that's refreshing. I might tweek it, but I am definitely going to keep it around. #lichtenhainer#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild
A few points to go yet, but HopCatcher needs it's dry hop. As far as the sample goes it's holding up pretty well to the vision I had going in, but for the rebrew I want to push some additional flavour hops. #Batch41#HopCatcher#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#dryhop
Tomorrow marks one year of brewing, and the memory of an absolutely terrible brown ale (which I thought was delightful). In honour of the journey so far I've decided to take a brewing holiday tomorrow and embrace the experimental spirit of that first brew. But with some actual knowledge this time. I'll keep you posted.
A bit too much kettle trub (that's the next problem to solve), and pitched a hair warmer than I would like but clean batch 39 is in, and off to a much better start than my first forays into fermentation. Not bad for a year's worth of beers. #Homebrew#Batch39#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild
Last weekend's Brown is swinging hard to become one of my favorites; plenty of flavour but not much left to chew on. I'll give it a wee temperature bump to make sure the yeast are fully happy with their work. #Homebrew#Samples#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#BrownAle
Welcome to the preboil. Gravity seems to be on point so we'll see how it goes from here. The hop addition seems like it's mostly for show at this point; ~3IBU of low alpha Hersbrucker. #Homebrewing#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#brewday
A late start to this weekend's brew, but that'll happen from time to time. The full volume mash is pretty much pushing equipment capacity to the edge but that's pretty around these parts. #brewday#EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#ViennaLager
There's not a lot better than seeing happily bubbling fermentation after a weekend's brew, but the Wee Heavy is going hard enough to celebrate on a wider scale. 28hours in and she is putting quite the strain on the primary fermentation fridge. #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#Homebrew#fermentation#Beer#WeeHeavy
Time for the first test of the brewpump. Not the end of tonight's fabrications but probably the most important. The real test will be on tomorrow's Ordinary Bitter. P.S. I'm very ready for those cam locks @southsidewinningwinesplus #EdmontonHomebrewersGuild#Brewday#CompetitionSeason
When fermentation is life. Thanks to @outcastbrewing and @yegbierfrau for helping me on this amazing beer. Outcast for the help on the recipe and the yeg beer Frau for the amazing Vermont yeast. This hazy pale ale will he a hop lovers dream. Follow both for amazing beer and beer knowledge!!!!
