I've always struggled with dessert. Give me a cookie and I want another. Give me a king size Reese's pack and they will all be gone before the TV show commercial comes back on. 😔
So obviously trying to stick to a "meal plan" with limitations and off-limit foods still hasn't truly STUCK. Even after these two years as a coach!
Well I've given up the containers, the "no carbs", the points, the rules and truly I've never felt more relieved. No more trackers, no more calorie counting. Yet I've seen better results this week than the last week of the 80 day program I just completed... seriously!

Is MSG safe?
Monosodium glutamate is a well known substance that we associate with Chinese food. It's used in food industry primarily to enhance the flavor of processed foods.
MSG is made of sodium and glutamic amino acid (building block of protein). Glutamic acid is present in natural form in many foods like vegetables and fruits, mushrooms, cheeses like Parmesan and Roquefort, seaweed, oysters, etc. We perceive MSG as a savory taste called umami. Our brain sort of thinks that it tastes good.
Think of sushi 🍣 with soy sauce. Soy sauce is full of MSG, so sushi has more flavor if you dip it in soy sauce. ☝️Glutamic acid is non essential amino acid, meaning your body makes it from other things. It's role is to stimulate nerve cells in your central nervous system. Your body needs it so your immune and digestive systems as well as muscle cells could work properly. As a neurotransmitter, glutamic acid stimulates the brain and is used to treat various neurological disorders. The bad part is that in large amounts it can overstimulate the cells to the point of their death.
➡️MSG that's added to foods as a taste enhancer is synthetic. It comes from a lab. Practically, most processed foods have synthetic MSG. It's there, so you'll think that the food tastes good, so you'll eat more, which in not a good thing.
There are many studies about MSG and they are divided into "safe" and "unhealthy" camps.
In animal studies, MSG linked to many problems like brain cells swelling and/or death. Amount of MSG fed to animals was way more then humans eat on average.
On the other hand, many people complain about headaches, flushing, muscle tightness, upset stomach, and numbness after eating MSG foods.
Constant eating of MSG foods can overwhelm your body and lead to eye damage or heart health problems.
🔷️So, after studying many scientific researches, I think it really depends on the personal tolerance of synthetic MSG, amount of MSG you eat, and how often you eat it.
Since it's mostly found in processed foods, I'd stay away because these are not healthy for you. You'll damage your health eating all that junk. If you have any symptoms associated with MSG, than avoid these foods.

Dalam kuliner, kembang telang lazim digunakan sbg pewarna alami kue, khususnya kue2 peranakan spt ketan sarikaya [foto dari buku Ibu Hiang Marahimin "Masakan Peranakan Tionghoa Semarang"].
Sbg pewarna alami, kembang telang tumpuk menghasilkan warna lebih "solid" & lebih mantap dibanding kembang telang biasa. Caranya, cukup dg meremas sedikit saja bunga dg air. [Perbandingan warna yg dihasilkan dr kembang telang tumpuk & kembang telang biasa dlm jumlah sama tersaji di foto ilustrasi.]
Kembang telang termasuk raw edible flower, bunga yg aman dimakan mentah. Nah, tidak ada salahnya kan menambahkannya dlm salad sayuran maupun buah.
Sejumlah zat berkhasiat obat tersimpan dalam tanaman kembang telang. A.l. triglukosida, delferidin, fenol, kalsium oksalat. Kandungan tertinggi di bagian akar, terendah dalam bunganya.
Manfaatnya sbg obat alami a.l. pencahar ringan; pereda radang mata, telinga, bisul; perangsang muntah, pereda demam, dll.

On Sunday we make a FRITATTA!! I have a foolproof base recipe that I use to make many wonderful variations. This week’s frittata is a Spicy Chorizo Fritatta with peppers, onions and cilantro. I eat a slice with a dressed salad and some fruit. I don’t add a plated fat because the chorizo is quite fatty.
· ½ - ¾ lb chorizo (I used @pedersonsfarms )
· 12 eggs (I used @vitalfarms )
· ½ cup coconut milk (I warm it in the can on the stove while it pre-heats)
· ¼ cup @bragglivefoods nutritional yeast
· Salt (just a bit, the chorizo may be salty) and pepper · 2 bell peppers, sliced or diced
· ½ small red onion, sliced or diced
· 1/2 cup cilantro
· Pre-heat the oven to 375 F
· Cook the chorizo and drain the fat
· Whisk the eggs, coconut milk, nutritional yeast, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
· Pour egg mixture into parchment lined 9x11 baking sheet
· Top the egg mixture with the chorizo, peppers, onions and cilantro
· Cook at 375 F for 30 mins (or until the eggs are fully set)

😩 making excuses for myself is probably the hardest thing I have to give up. It's just so easy... "I'm tired", "I've been working all day", "I just wanna take a break", "once in a while it's okay (which is true, when it actually is once in a while", "it's just one bite"... These excuses lead me to give up on eating healthy and working on my business. I'm proud of myself for consistenly cooking dinner and lunch this month, but I still have a long ways to go in my weight loss journey and even longer in my business development.
