Yesturday when I was at the gym @alicia_boulton gave me a compliment. I struggled with accepting it. I went home and thought about that....come to the conclusion I am still embarrassed about how far I let myself go (putting back on 17kgs) so now I'm going to look at it in a completely different light...im doing something about it and getting off my ass, working hard and staying the course I should be proud of that!

Many people fall under the WRONG impression that to get great look abs you need to do crunches.......

Yeah, no, that doesn't work that way. Here's why:

1. No matter how many crunches you do, if you're not below 10% body fat, you won't even see an outline of your abs coming through. You need a low body fat percentage for your abs to "pop" like the ones you see in magazines and in the movies. The best approach, track your calories, lift 3-4x a week, be patient, and take diet breaks, FOR A VERY LONG TIME. There's no shortcut! .

2. Functionally doing crunches won't do you any good. The amount of muscle activation during a crunch is far less than doing something like a front plank, or even an exercise that isn't considered a "core" exercise such as a deadlift or pullup. You're better off training your body as a whole unit as it works as a whole unit and not one segment at a time.

3. Your abs are more than just the "stuff" in front of your stomach. What about your obliques? What about the deeper muscles like the "TA" or "QL" ALL OF THESE ARE PART OF YOUR SO CALLED "ABS." You need to train all of them in order to have a strong functioning and aesthetically pleasing core. .

This is the best way for me to live. I love my treats, but have learned balance. Yes, I absolutely have shit eating days, family gatherings can be tough. But again 80/20 rule comes in play. 
This is my last week of 80 day obsession and I’m doing the peak week meal plan which is only 2 portions of carbs and no fruit 😬 day 2 and going strong!

. 💩Since I'll be doing my first seminar on low back pain and deadlifting/squatting "without f#!king up your s#!t"(title pending) I thought I'd do a quick post of what you can do! .
. 🦇1. GO SEE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST THAT UNDERSTANDS EXERCISE AND MOVEMENT! Seeing someone like a chiro who has an exercise background will do amazing things for your training. A regular physio or chiro that you go to with no exercise background you'll be limited and most likely have a blank face when you tell them that "this hurts when I do a hand clean to split jerk." Find a physio or chiro that also lifts, this will help in the long run! . . 🐧2. Try elevating your deadlift! Most people don't have the prerequisites to deadlifting off the floor, so other things in the body have to compensate. Try by merely putting 45lbs plates under your bar like in the photo, try a set, if it feels better, but still has pain, elevate it until there is no pain present. .
. 🤖3. FOOT POSITION! Everyone has different hips! By just moving your feet closer together, further apart, or even moving one foot out can make a world of difference. .
. 🧚‍♂️4. Try a different variation. Maybe your body wasn't meant to straight bar deadlift. There is no law or rule that states you have to deadlift with the straight bar! Try using the trap bar, or using two kettlebells, or even going to a single leg variation! .

I see so many martial artist my age and older out of shape,over weight & unhealthy I found myself in the same situation.When we look at some of the great masters of the past within the Asian community no matter the style there was little chronic disease what use is it to be strong as a ox but can’t run up a case of stairs,so I’m starting with myself to improve my over all health to get fit and lead by example as a martial artist a Hiphop dance teacher and personal trainer  I have no excuse.

I find all over the internet that so many people LOVE hip thrusts but many of them perform them incorrectly. .

From the set up to not figuring out an individual approach to troubleshoot when their clients can't seem to figure out the movement. .
🙈

I think the NUMBER ONE mistake is people starting their hip thrusts with the bench when they are not ready to go pass a basic glute bridge and end up using their lower backs instead of their glutes. Here is a progression scale I like to use:

Glute bridge - single leg glute bridge - glute bridge march - glute bridge heels elevated on bench - single leg glute bridge heels elevated on bench - hip thrust with two legs - single leg hip thrust - barbell glute bridge from the floor - barbell hip thrust - single leg barbell hip thrust

❤️ This exercise might not seem like a traditional "core" exercise but believe me, you're working your so-called "core" more than you think. .

I believe most people think their core is just your abs but in reality, there's so much more to it. Everything in your body is connected in some shape or form. Your "abs" that consist of things like your obliques, internal obliques, T.A, multifidus, glutes, hip stabilizers, shoulders, the list could go on when it comes to core stabilization. .
🥑

Being in a split squat hover position as I call it to promote a lot of hip stability work. Using the ropes adds a variable anti-rotation challenge to your "core." Combining these two creates an amazing core exercise that most people probably don't do or even think of. .
