#BronzeOx in Summer Palace, BeijingOn the east bank of Kunming Lake, east of Seventeen-Arch Bridge, visitors may see a bronze ox. This bronze ox was made in 1755 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the fourth emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1368-1644). It is of the same size and vividness as a real one, which reflects the extraordinary craftsmanship of the foundry. The ox is nestled on a bluestone base carved with waves, and looks into the landscape with his head raised and his eyes shining. The inscription engraved in his back was written by Emperor Qianlong and has not deteriorated at all despite its age. The inscription is comprised of eighty characters, explaining the story of this bronze ox. Emperor Qianlong placed it at the bank of the lake in hope that it can restrain a potential flood brought by the Kunming Lake and bring infinite blessing to both the garden and the nearby dwellers
Those are probably the biggest themes of Comuna 13 in Medellin.
Hell of Medellin in general.
Yes, this place has had a rocky past.
A past that led the majority of the people in my life to say “be safe.”
But don’t Narcos fool you.
To say that this city has changed would be be understatement of the century.
And the imagery and analogies that best describe that transformation were echoed in the art on today’s graffiti tour.
A Phoenix rising from the ashes for example.
This city is amazing.
These people a resilient.
They’ve endured more than most of us could ever dream.
Our guide today for example spoke of losing more than 20 of his friends when he was young.
But it’s not like that anymore.
The city is investing in its poor communities in ways that American cities probably can’t even fathom.
It’s unbelievable. Inspiring.
And if you ever have the chance to visit it, you’ll see that there’s nothing to be scared of.
In fact you might even end up feeling like I do.
You might not want to leave.
Sometimes the #writingonthewall (or floor) speaks to you. After surrendering to the tattoo gods yesterday, I’m on the plane enjoying a constant reminder of who I am for me and who I aspire to be for the world. @elliotcastro and I ended up in the Virgin Lounge at SFO pro-bono 👏🏽. I’m no longer Gold class, so we thought we were going to kick down, but somehow, going full circle, I suppose there was something #standinginthewayofcontrol . 🚀🇬🇧🎡
Beautiful scenery in an old post village called Narai-juku. One of the eleven villages that were used by travelers going from Kyoto, Japans old capital, to Edo, nowadays Tokyo 🗾
Loved seeing such a different side of Japan. Again! This country keeps on amazing me 🙏🏻
What I like most about landscape photography is how a simple photo like this one can instill a sense of wonder. This cypress tree is off the coast of Big Sur and looking back at it now it represents something unique, something different and something special. Too many times we try and conform to what other people say we should be or be someone we are not, without realizing how special we are as an individual. Be yourself in every possible way and stand out amongst the crowd of copycats, and followers. At times people may look at you as strange and different and judge you for it but that’s the exact reason you should always be yourself ✌🏻
Bocas del Toro is a province of Panama where you can apparently go wakeboarding and tubing off of a seaplane in the Carribean Sea (📷: @moliverallen)!! It looks like we're adding another one to our #travelbucketlist . 🏄 ☀️ #smileactives
Downtown Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City from across the river. The skyline continues on both sides of this central shot of downtown. The stories of how many motorbikes are racing through the streets here are not exaggerated.
I LOVE our sky guys! They bring a whole new level of professionalism to this job. This bunch just graduated today and is coming to a base near you! I think we all remember what it was like to be a new hire. Let’s put them to ease and welcome them with open arms!
Looking fresh in those suits, gentlemen.... @irick_james @galen.neil @keith_travels @iamkemoi8 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
If you’re lucky, you’ll find friendships that transcend space and time. I’ve been friends with this lovely lady since our undergrad years. And even though I ignorantly mimicked her Ukrainian accent when we first met, I somehow managed to claw my way into her life (and her heart). Many crazy New York, 1000’s of miles, and the whirlwind of life events later, we’ve managed to stay connected. We always pick up where we left off and that’s something really special. I love that I have so many wonderful women in my life that bring interesting and challenging perspectives. To many more years of drinking wine and eating cheese (against our doctor’s recommendation.)
