Located in the TIFF Bell Lightbox in the heart of the entertainment district. They have a great streetside patio that should be bustling this summer. #lifestylemedicine is about less refined carbs. Refined carbs are sugar and starch products such as rice, pasta, bread, pastries etc. that have been processed. Processing of foods is done to increase shelf life and taste of foods. Processing leads to removal of fiber, iron, protein and B vitamins. A 1997 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found an association of refined carbs with higher triglyceride levels and lower HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Other studies showed an increase in diabetes and obesity.
@ricardas.to is a Mediterranean restaurant located in the king street west area in Toronto. Featured here is the Green Lentil and Chickpea Salad with cucumber, shallots, celery, cherry tomatoes, carrots, chia seeds, sesame, grape seed oil and citrus vinaigrette. #lifestylemedicine is about the Mediterranean diet. A 2013 study in the New England Journal of Medicine involving 7000 people found that a Mediterranean diet reduced risk of heart attacks, stroke and death by 30%. Sunday brunch @kosttoronto will be a definite hot spot as the weather gets warmer. Inside info is that the outdoor furniture is coming in tomorrow. Highly recommend the fruit bowl as an excellent shareable during brunch. As usual, it was packed today and most people were dressed to impress. #lifestylemedicine topic is about how fruits/vegetables can do wonders for you. You hear it all the time from health providers to increase fruit/vegetable intake but it is nice to have solid evidence behind it. A 2014 study published in the British Medical Journal concluded that each serving of fruit/vegetable was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality. The above mentioned study, along with the EPIC study in 2011 and the China study in 2016 all concluded that those that had fresh fruit daily had decreased risk for cardiovascular death, stroke and heart attacks.
