Today’s run was hard. There isn’t a particular reason why, but it was hard. It was a beautiful day, I have new running shoes (the old ones were killing my feet!) and I’ve slept a lot this weekend, but I still had to stop twice to catch my breath🏃🏻‍♀️ And that’s okay - I still pushed myself and enjoyed the first sunny and warm spring day in Montreal , so I’ll definitely call it a victory😃

Today’s run was hard. There isn’t a particular reason why, but it was hard. It was a beautiful day, I have new running shoes (the old ones were killing my feet!) and I’ve slept a lot this weekend, but I still had to stop twice to catch my breath🏃🏻‍♀️ And that’s okay - I still pushed myself and enjoyed the first sunny and warm spring day in Montreal , so I’ll definitely call it a victory😃 . A big part of my strategy to cramming for multiple exams in finals week or for boards/standardized tests is changing my study environment often. It's only 3:30 in the afternoon and I've already put in several hours at 4 different locations today. Currently reading notes while doing incline treadmill. Who knows where I'll end up next, especially now that mental exhaustion is kicking in.. 😅

Something about surrounding myself with people of common interests.. really makes my heart happy and adds flame to that fire inside of me. It’s taken me a long time in this industry to prioritize surrounding myself with like-mindedness, and this being a highly individualized sport, not having that support can be frustrating. But I’m finally beginning to put my goals first and keep those with a similar mindset close. Here’s to unapologetically pursuing your passions—do you’re thing, with or without support. Postrun #brunch - eggs, feta, chilli and kale. I personally like a lower carb diet and like to make sure I get a good amount of protein at every meal. The RDA for protein intake has been shown to be lower than needed and you want to be aiming for 1-2g/kg body weight a day depending on what you are doing Exercise wise. Some may even need more💪🏻💪🏻. Protein can improve satiety and therefore help reduce snacking. Did some 230 farmers with a little 240 sandbag medley thrown in, then finished up with a heavier 280 farmers. Last night the fiancé and I went out to dinner and an older woman sat at the bar next to us. I nudged my fiancé and said to him, I KNOW HER from somewhere. Not two minutes later her and her husband were waving saying you delivered our grandchild the other week. You were wonderful. We had such a great experience. Immediately my face lit up. As I walked into work today I brought my smile and I reminded myself that I do in fact love delivering babies and that despite the long hours and many years of training this profession is exactly where I’m supposed to be. *How to shape your abs*

👍Some things I’ve done to shape my midsection over the past few years to maintain abs year round:

1) Build a foundation. Everyone has abdominal muscles, but just like every other muscle group, you’ll need to develop them. The two things that have worked best for me are weighted crunches and decline leg raises. The first targets your upper abdominal muscles and the latter targets your bottom core. You’ll need to set up a solid foundation before you begin toning with cardio and weight loss.

2) STOP over working obliques. I rarely ever directly target obliques and if I do, I go with very light weight. The reason for this is because gigantic obliques don’t normally look aesthetic and they make your waist look bigger. Personally, I’m trying to sculpt a nice image and not just build up a bunch of muscles. Although the twisty turny machine at the gym or the side crunches with the dumbbell ( I used to do this every night smh) are really easy to do, don’t overdo it please!

3) Food. Weight loss and shaping your body is so much easier when you’re eating the right foods doods. What do I eat if I’m trying to look lean? Grilled chicken breast, tilapia, egg beaters, protein cereal, oatmeal, baked chips, fat free cheese, low carb tortillas, and halo top ice cream are my go-to’s. Don’t work your butt off in the gym and miss out on results because you aren’t eating right. Ask for help if you’re just beginning, and I’ll walk you through the process🙂

Great day with the girlfriend in the Tuscarora state forest last weekend.  Early breakfast at a diner, long hard day on an 'absolutely awful' trail (definitely avoid the Tuscarora trail from colonel denning state park to sterrets gap), and then a picnic by a lake.  Not too shabby.

Also, Ive been absent from posting about the gym lately because I Injured my AC joint while squatting a month ago (it's almost better now), I've been somewhat ill the last 3 weeks because I ate 170 eggs that were recalled for salmonella, and I've darn near had an exam almost every day the last 3 weeks. I've still been working out. Just grinding in silence. 👌
Great day with the girlfriend in the Tuscarora state forest last weekend. Literally deadlifting till I'm dead today! I'm coming for you #700 club!! Working on that core strength without the belt and at the end finishing with some reverse band deads trying to get my body used to being under the weight through the full range. All of these lifts are PRs for me... I have never gone belt less above 500lbs! I'm so stoked!!! I will get to that 700lb club on deadlift 💪 I'm only 55lbs away from it! - you can only train x2 per week
-  you hate HIIT training; - training first thing in the morning is not practical coz you have a job!; - you hate training on an empty stomach cuz you are hungry when you get up (yeah me too 🙋🏽‍♀️)~. ❓❓❓What do you do? 
Yeah you might do it for a week or two. But if you don’t enjoy it you won’t be consistent. Or you might be consistent, but you’ll be miserable. Life is NOT about being miserable in the name of fitness. Fitness should be something you look forward to💃🏽

SOLUTION: Do something that might be “suboptimal” but that you LIKE, AND fits into your lifestyle; something you’ll be #consistent with. ~. ~

What's the point of foam rolling? The improvement in flexibility preworkout can be obtained through any activity that increases your body temperature. 
So focus on getting your body temp up and muscle activation preworkout and then you can do some deep foam rolling post workout.

✔️Rappeling
✔️Ziplining ✔️ATVing
✔️Swimming through a cave

And the best part is everything was included as part of this trip that I earned through helping other people hit their own health & fitness goals, whether it's weight loss, muscle gain, or simply to feel more confident in their own skin.

That's just so amazing to think about and still baffles me. There is no other job out there that I know of that encourages me to be healthy while helping other people do the same. It's all about preventive medicine and helping people living healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. Spending an uninterrupted hour in the gym is a privilege, and when it happens I don't take it for granted. I divide my time between my children, my husband, and my job, but I've learned the importance of adding some #selfcare to the mix. #balanceiskey so I'm not missing out on the lives of those I love, but I'm also working toward my own goals, and learning to love myself more along the way. 🤗

At certain point in my life I wasn’t able to find a vein in my body (visible) and told myself it is hard to lose weight and build a physique. But after making up my mind, after two hard earned years, now when I laugh hard I could see the external jugular vein so prominent that my colleague jokes about inserting an IV. 😂😂😂. They aren’t magical though. They simply work by improving appetite and cravings that are wired in our brains (surgery has a few extra mechanisms but can discuss those later.)

I get many patients coming to me because their doctor didn’t believe they were actually trying to lose weight. Their doctor told them they just need to eat less and move more. This is obvious. Helping them achieve that is a different story.

Started this training session by easily hitting squat singles at 315 then 340. Here’s me safely failing 355lb on the squat after losing my balance on the way up 🤓. Then I bounced back (with the unfailing encouragement of @austin_barbellmedicine ) to squat 290x5 then 2x5x280. Ended with some strict presses - what’s shown is 115x5. Rounded out with 2x5x110 😁

why deadlift?

deadlifting is a fantastic exercise - if performed correctly. it works so many muscle groups such as:
core ✔️
quads ✔️
hamstrings ✔️
glutes ✔️
grip ✔️
back ✔️ (duh)

unfortunately it is also easy to have poor form, which can lead to bad injuries. if you’re learning to deadlift, make sure you have a spotter to check your form. and don’t lift too heavy!  adding weight will come quick once your form is 💯, but going too heavy with poor form will lead to 🚑🏥

Can you believe it's been 80 days since I started this program?! First off, I'll admit that I skipped the last 3 workouts 🤐 I've been enjoying my vacation and time off a little too much, and then I was busy packing last night, and had to leave way early this morning to catch my flight. {I know, excuses, excuses... But I want to be honest with you guys}. I will also admit that I was way more strict about my nutrition in Phase 1 of this program, slacked off during Phase 2, got back on board for a few weeks, and then fell off again until the end. That's what happens when you start inpatient rehab in Queens and are surrounded by Chinese bakeries and delicious foods 😋. I did continue the timed nutrition by eating every 3 hours to the best of my ability depending on how busy it was in the hospital. But again, I fully own up to all my shortcomings in this program! 
But despite missing the last 3 days, I still got some amazing results, which just goes to show that you don't have to be perfect to do a program like this! I didn't have similar pictures from halfway through the program for some reason, so if you're wondering why it's Day 27 and not 40, that's why. 😆

I forgot to bring the sheet with my exact measurements on the plane, so I can't give those to you - but I'll update everything once I'm back from Riviera Maya! {I know, I'm a mess. Yay, life of a resident.} 💪I can update you on how I feel though and that is 10x stronger than I did on Day 1. Push-ups are more doable, my endurance improved significantly, I have way more energy, I feel significantly less bloated around my mid-section, I actually made booty gains {it's so hard being Asian 😂}, and I feel way more confident! 
This program not only challenges you physically but also mentally which I think any great, comprehensive program should do.

Because I got such great results, I think I'm going to do another round {this time, actually follow the nutrition plan}. Who wants to join me?!
