The shelter does not disclose updates to me after the dogs are no longer in their care. Please contact them for any INFORMATION and/or UPDATES. Adoptions have to be made in person. Potential adopters have to bring their other dogs (if any) for a meet and greet. Im only a net-worker therefore, i do not have pulling rights. I name the dogs for personal references, the shelter doesn't know those names so always make sure to ask for a dog by their control number not by their name to avoid confusion.

He refused to go for his normal walk today and actually turned down the street we were on yesterday and then started running home like he knew something bad happened there. ((Traumatized)) so we kept it short and simple this morning even though it’s beautiful out.
So this is 🐩 Benji, 👑 lady’s best friend! Several years ago, he was diagnosed with patellar subluxation and arthritis on both legs —which caused him to whine, whimper and yelp 😞. .
So, the Vet suggested they would surgically cut the bones and straighten his legs. They even advised that even after the $8,600 surgical procedure were successfully performed and without complications, Benji’s quality of life will not be the same...that he would probably never run again. Wait...what???
So I took Benji to another a Vet Clinic and the 👨⚕️ treated 🐩 with acupuncture. After 2 acupuncture sessions and a week of giving him Chinese herbal meds, Benji began running and jumping without whining or yelping. He was back to the good ol’ B! .
It’s been almost 4 years since he was diagnosed and I still give him Chinese herbal meds, spirulina, probiotics, omega 3 oil gelcap and holistic dog 🥘(it’s better than a $8,600 surgery that promote no better quality of life for B 😢!). .
I know that 🐩 is not ‘cured’ but watching him wag his tail and run around the 🏡 are for sure, a sign of happiness 🌸and stablility.
Benji’s adversity is a great lesson that we must learn to live with it, to be comfortable with it and best of all, to SMILE 😃! .
Do you have a pet with disabilities?
Look at this smile. I brought my favorite biped dog Victoria to the adoption event today in Bernal Heights. She was recognized by one of her Instagram followers (holding V in the photo)! She said that seeing Victoria made her day ❤️ @victoriaonwheels @ilovefamilydog #familydogrescue#sfdogs#adoptdontshop#wheeliedog#disableddog
I met a horse named Regal today who reminded me of my big man, Carter MooCow Mococo Caspio-Smith. It's been one week since Carter transcended, as a good friend put it. Carter had the gentlest, most beautiful spirit and I will be forever grateful to him for helping me to find the path to my true self. It was a gift to be able to be in his presence for the final two years and 11 days of his mysterious life. He passed just moments before my alarm rang last Saturday morning, less than 24 hours before I departed for five weeks. I don't believe in coincidences. Carter was, and will forever be, pure Beauty.
I can only hope that some day people will learn.
You can have the most well behaved dog.
You can have the friendliest dog in the world.
You can have the most trained dog in the world.
But for the love of god put that dog on a leash!
Leashing your dog does not mean they aren’t well behaved.
Leashing your dog does not mean they aren’t friendly.
Leashing your dog does not mean they aren’t trained.
Leashing your dog means you care enough about them to keep them safe.
Case in point—Tucker was super excited to walk today. It’s sunny and not windy. And he likes to exercise his legs. We made it not much further than the video in my story when we turned the corner and there was a little dog in the front yard (being watched mind you) not on a leash or fenced in that decided he wanted to ply with Tucker 😩 so he did what any dog would do...took off running straight at Tucker 🤦🏻♀️ proactive that I am knowing the outcome of this we did Tucker’s favorite thing....run in the opppsite direction. While yelling “he’s not friendly” as the owners tried to chase their dog. Let me tell you. That little dogs legs were on turbo blast. It wasn’t going to happen. So I did what any crazy person would do. Grabbed my dogs collar all while he’s snapping and growling because not only does he have a dog running at him but now two humans and shoved his head in between my legs. Mind you we were in the middle of the road at this point. No one was hurt. They got their little dog while apologizing profusely. And Tucker promptly marched himself home and into the house and tucked himself back in bed...completely missing his walk because he thought he did something wrong and was in trouble. He wasn’t wrong.
Moral of the story...someone could have been seriously hurt or hit by a car. Because a leash wasn’t neccesary.
Evening cuddle time.
18 months ago this lovely dog lost the use of her back legs, a common complaint with dachshunds.
In those past months we have established a care regimen that keeps her as healthy as we can.
Though all the extra work and worries about having a disabled pet, melts away when I see how she copes with her disability. She makes me smile every day
Our little Luna. Six weeks since this one joined our pack and she is doing amazingly well. She has grown muscle in her back legs after many mini walks and now can do big walks with the other dogs. As soon as she gets out the car she is off, exploring every inch of the woods, field or park that she can. She runs so fast her back legs can't always keep up and she falls down but she doesn't let that bother her, it's as if everyday she is having a little adventure all by herself. She has become firm friends with the other dogs and is always asleep on Finch. Looking forward to watching her become even stronger, but for now we are very much enjoying the happiness she brings to the family . .
