Mt.Korab-april ski patrol on this mountain titan. While in this period, almost everywhere in Macedonia the spring is significantly present, at mt Korab she just getting awakend. A huge amounts of snow pack layered nicely from this past winter which snowwise-gave a lot.
An amazing April day the mountain gave to us. The skinning routes for ascending are still deeply covered with snow, so almost everywhere skinning is possible. In the higher areas, as always one should be careful due the sping avalanche risk which is still present at the mountain. An avalanche risk at the time was between 2 and 4 on particular areas.
I chosed Kepi Bard ridge, a steep ridge face for ascend but safe from any avy danger.
The day was amazing spring sunny day, with south winds present -approx 40km’s on the top of the ridge, so it was decicive what is the price of the day- the Kepi Bard ski line. Aprox 5 km line with vertical diff.of 859m, a one of the Korab’s classics to became.
The ski conditions were not ‘the best day in the season’ -a firn wet and heavy sugary snow, but i gave my best, a ski line is a ski line especialy in spring, so ski smile is ski smile :). All at one, a beautiful spring ski conditions on Korab this sping. Stay safe and have a good snow. Day 2 #DrinSource2Sea // A slightly later start then planned due to Mark pressing the snooze button on his alarm meant we began our day on the water at 9am. The river was fast and wide here, unlike the narrow twisting river we had tracked the day before.
Four dam crossings, and a few rapids later we had to call an early end to the day after just 30km. Wet, tired, and shivering on the bank of the river we pulled the kayaks up onto a field hoping to dry our gear in the evening sun and camp there for the night.
A young boy with his herd walked up to us carrying a baby goat, staring and perhaps wondering what these strange people were doing. Trying to start a conversation, we asked him if it's safe to camp here for the night or if it's someones land. His reply, 'Yes, the people are peaceful here'. #expedition#kosovo#albania#driniibardhe#adventure#dinaricalps#accursedmountains#kayak#paddlehard#paddlefaster#waterfall#sourcetosea#source2sea
Source of Drini i Bardhë (The White Drin) on Day 1 #DrinSource2Sea // Within a matter of metres, the stream from the source in Radaci Cave expands from a narrow trickle of a stream winding its way around moss covered stones to pooling and hurling itself down a waterfall and beginning the 300km journey to the Adriatic Sea.
The White Drin certainly lives up to its name. The river turned out to be more technically challenging than expected, resulting in delaying our entry point into the river further than planned. Instead, we decided to bang out a 23km road walk in 3 hours along the river to arrive at a known point we could begin kayaking from the next day.
