We love hearing your Zelens reviews, including this one about Hydro-Shiso Balancing Moisturiser by Freddie via @lookfantastic! ‘I bought this cream after using the cleanser for a few months and it hasn't disappointed. I have combination skin that gets dehydrated, so I find it hard to get the right balance between moisture and feeling too greasy. The balancing moisturiser does exactly what it says, leaves me with a smooth and hydrated complexion - less clogged pores and less wrinkles! It's a great base for makeup too.’ 🌟🌟🌟 #GlowingReview
Let's talk about exfoliation. There are different forms of exfoliants:- Physical exfoliants and Chemical exfoliants. **Physical exfoliants are facial scrubs, brushes, dermaplanning, microdermabrasion. **Chemical exfoliants are enzymes, Alpha Hydroxy Acid which is glycolic , lactic , malic and mandelic drived from fruits, milk and sugar cane. Beta Hydroxy Acid is salicylic acid which is derived from aspirin. Watching new clients coming in with dry, overprocessed and stripped skin always wondered me what product they use. When i ask to bring in all skincare they would ever use i see why the skin.looks line that and acts like that. The r eason is simple - almost each product is a sort of exfoliation. The skin looks tired, stripped, aged; it also can cause breakouts. Working hard skin produces natural oil instead of protecting your face. Just because a product doesn't say" Exfoluato"r it doesn't mean is not doing its purpose.

The difference a few days can make. What’s annoying about this, is I believe that for some reason, removing the dry skin will help it feel better. But it doesn’t - if anything it opens up the skin to infection - and I know that but I still try remove the skin because the sensation of flaking off is worse as well as the sight of it reflecting back at me in mirrors. That being said, it’s improved a lot within the week and I managed to avoid getting a golden crust by washing my face with an antimicrobial emollient wash every morning and when I got in from work. Stuck to what I know works, although it did take time as I didn’t use steroids this flare, yet it healed up all the same 🙌
Our skin is a reflection of what we eat. Our liver is our largest internal organ and it helps detox our body. The liver has a low tolerance for uric acid which is a by-product of animal protein. Animal protein puts a strain on our liver and can lead to unhealthy bacteria growth and toxicity. Skin conditions that the liver could be responsible for are.... eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
Maybe it's time to consider a plant-based lifestyle. Many people are concerned they are not going to get enough protein when eating plant-based. Today I will show you in my story what a day of plant-based meals looks like and how much protein I get. For good liver health you also want to avoid alcohol, limit your sodium intake and drink plenty of water. 📸 @groundleaf
Did you know that your skin is an ORGAN? And like all of your body’s organs, HYDRATION is extremely important for them to function at their best. ——————————————————————————————————
HEALTHY skin is hydrated skin. Here are 3 TIPS to keep your skin looking, feeling and functioning at its best.
1️⃣ Drink plenty of WATER 💦 (around 8 glasses per day) - This will help to not only rehydrate the skin and it’s cells, but also help to flush out those nasty toxins. Which if left within the cells can lead to OXIDISATION, a major factor in skin ageing.
2️⃣ Apply HYALURONIC ACID based serum to the skin 💦 - Hyaluronic Acid is large sugar molecule that is naturally found in the skin. Because it holds up to 1000x its weight in water it plays a key role in skin hydration. Applying it topically in a SERUM form, means that it will penetrate the skin more effectively and get to work deep within the skin for better results.
3️⃣ Apply an hydrating MOISTURISER with in 3 minutes of cleansing the skin ⏳ - Due to the skin being more porous during this time, it will allow for better product penetration and also seal in that vital moisture.
4️⃣ Avoid using products containing SLS ❌ - SLS stands for SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE and is a widely used chemical found in many personal hygiene products, including soaps, face washes and body washes. It is a foaming agent, that is commonly used in industrial strength cleaners. (Not really something you want to be putting on your skin!) Prolonged use can cause skin dehydration, IRRITATION and can also lead to conditions such as contact dermatitis.
5️⃣ Eat lots of FRUIT and VEG🍏🍊🍐🥝🍅🥕🥦🍓🥒 - Fruit and vegetables contain lots of vitamins, nutrients and WATER. Having your 5 a day, is a simple and effective way of boosting you hydration levels and supplying you body with the NUTRIENTS it needs. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————
Before starting my no-buy challenge (we can thank @matildaonvideo for the inspiration behind that) I had stock up on some of my favourites from @gotoskincare , as well as treating myself to some of their newbies.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with go-to, it’s a cruelty-free Australian company founded by the marvellously witty @zotheysay . The company was started with the mission of making fuss-free but effective skincare to everyone...and they’ve done exactly that! .
My Favourites from the range have to be the very useful face cream, which I bought in the big limited edition tub because it’s adorable and one of the most nourishing moisturisers known to man, and their exfoliating swipeys which are my favourite exfoliant for my sensitive skin!
Happy 🌎Day! Take small steps daily that make a huge impact. Switch to green and glamours beauty brands that care about our 🌎. @drskinhealth I had to share photos of my personal hiking trips in Mammoth somewhere near and dear to my heart. I want future generations to experience the same beauty I have. Please celebrate our planet and take care or it daily.
A new favorite for this girl. I love the idea of an overnight mask, works while you sleep. My skin is so soft and radiant after this treatment. I have been doing about twice a week. This overnight mask is full of vitamins, antioxidants and trace minerals. It also includes Blue-Green algae extract from Klamath lake in Oregon. This has a retinoid effect without the harshness and safe for pregnant mommas. This is a great at home treatment for dry, dehydrated, sensitive, and irritated skin. The price on this $55.00 😯 for a jar that will last you months.
Spending the rest of my Saturday relaxing with my partner and my dog— enjoying the beautiful afternoon, and my freshly cleaned and peeled skin 🙏🏽 Thanks again to @ritual_skincare who did my face up so well, I fell asleep on the treatment table 😂
While you should /ideally/ be washing your face twice a day, I don’t normally get to do that— and this is my VERY extensive night time routine (with products tagged!) •
1) Two step cleanse! If wearing makeup, wash with @banilaco_official Clean It Zero balm. Second cleanse (for me) has either been @stratiaskin velvet milk or my recent fave, @redearth_beauty hydrate cleanser.
2) @herbivorebotanicals rose mist as first toner; @cremorlab_kr toner as second toner.
3) @saturday_skin freeze frame essence bc I tend to layer hella anti aging products on my skin. This one is a good essence.
4) I rotate my exfoliators and actives, depending on how my skin feels. The ones that I ALWAYS use are: DNAEGF DNA Serum (anti aging), @ediblebeautyau anti aging serum, & @stratiaskin’s REWIND (also anti aging.) oOoh and a @caudalie serum with hyaluronic acid to pack in the moisturizers! I use @vivantskincare derm-a-renew for retinol/vitamin A nights, and @the__ordinary for vitamin C and azelaic acid. When I do exfoliate, I also am a fan of @glowrecipe’s watermelon sleeping mask or @stratiaskin’s soft touch AHA (both have been good for my dehydrated, sensitive skin!)
5) @herbivorebotanicals lapis facial oil, meant for “oily” skin, but my skin laps this up— so soothing for my rosacea!
6) first moisturiser with @stratiaskin ‘a liquid gold, and if I need more moisturise? Vivant has a marine moisturiser that I love!
What products do you use or suggest? Any clean swaps? Do you prefer organic products in your skincare routine?
Skin is in!
My favourite part of any weekend is my ridiculously extensive skincare routine, in which I am constantly rotating serums and making sure my sensitive skin is healthy. Thank you to my close friend @sirputdowntheknife (located @adamsskincare) for his no judgment education on basic skincare and how to maintain your youthful glow & age gracefully. Thank you to @ritual_skincare for an epically relaxing start to a chill weekend— hope to talk product shop soon. .
I will talk about my routine in the upcoming posts! 💗
There’s no evidence that alcohol does anything more than temporarily dehydrate your skin, and in fact, propyl alcohol, found in skincare products has been found to be less irritating than sodium lauryl sulfate, another popular ingredient. Alcohol isn’t always a bad idea in skincare 🙊 - it helps ingredients penetrate, and allows thick formulas to spread and dry quicker. If you’re dehydration-prone and you love a particular alcohol-heavy product, try using humectants (hyaluronic acid, honey, aloe) to limit the dehydrating effect before you completely disregard it!
#SpringFlingChallenge Day 14: Hydration
Hydration is one of THE most important things in skincare for me. Tendency to dehydration is one of my main concerns, and I go through lots of hydrating products all the time.
Currently, I rotate these:
1️⃣#MadHippie vitamin c serum - I know, it sounds like an antioxidant serum, but it has vit c derivative (ascorbyl phosphate) & not “the real thing” ascorbic acid, so I use it for hydration, and it’s pretty good at that!
2️⃣#SonAndPark beauty water - turned out to be a real multitasker! I use it either as a hydrating lotion or as a mist (in spray bottle), under another serum, and it’s great that way.
3️⃣#DermaE firming dmae serum - it’s something in between a serum & moisturizer: it’s creamy, lightweight, I like it a lot. I use it as a hydrating moisturizer in am routines or as one of the layers in pm. Either way, it’s super-nice 👍
🦋 Sharing is Caring 🦋
If you have ever suffered with #acne you know how exhausting it is trying to find a cure 😭 the abuse we put our skin through with harsh products and anything/everything the dermatologist suggests is crazy! Well I’m almost 38 & have a #fungalacne situation at the moment 😡 thanks to #reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/
and a lot of my own research....I’ve come to the conclusion that I also have severely #dehydratedskin These ✌️products have helped the burning, itching, etc I’m waiting on some #hadalabo Japanese #skincare that is supposed to be the holy grail!! If your face is going through a rough patch, treat it like a babies ass. NO harsh products! Just gentle products w/good ingredients to get your skin back to doing what it’s supposed to 🧖🏻♀️ if you are on a budget- good ole Cerave products. DON’T use the PM moisturizer if your moisture barrier is compromised 🔥 burns like the devil, but the moisturizing cream in the tub + their AM moisturizer 👌🏼
Just a quick empties post on this beautiful, sunny Saturday ☀️ I hope you’re having a great day!
♥️ Lovinah Cacao Lover Antiaging Mask - a staple in my mask collection. Deeply hydrating and firming, this mask leaves my skin healthy looking and radiant (wonderful as a morning mask). Scent and texture are divine 🍫 Have a backup that I was lucky enough to win in a giveaway last year.
♥️ Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser - balancing, calming and hydrating. Normally use it as a 1st cleanser. Have repurchased.
♥️ Jordan Samuel Skin Plié Treatment Cleanser - extremely versatile cleanser that works great as a 1st, 2nd or morning cleanser or as a mask mixed with a few drops of oil and Hydrate Facial Serum. Hydrating, effective and leaves skin supple, smooth and happy. Have backups (two actually).
♥️ Kneipp Intensivbalsam - love to use this a hand cream. Works wonders on parched, sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Will repurchase.
♥️ Bepanthol Lip Cream - TLC for dry and chapped lips, I use it every night under a normal lip balm. Have repurchased.
➖ La Belle Lune Organic Skin - lovely nourishing face oil, beautiful scent. I liked it, but didn’t love it, and will not repurchase.
➖ Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Cell Repair Night Oil - amazing scent but the oil was not a great match for my skin. To use it up, I mixed the oil with my body lotion and for that purpose I really enjoyed it. Will not repurchase.
➗ Lavera Lip Balm SPF 10 - oh dear. Technically not an empty (purchased the lip balm last weekend), but I really dislike it. The lip balm applies cakey and ghostly white and now goes straight to the bin...
One empty and one new + flash review.
▪️ Empty: #theordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA. The claim: "This highly-effective composition has been shown to reduce the look of static and dynamic wrinkles. This formula contains two generations of Matrixyl™, Matrixyl™ 3000 and Matrixyl™ synthe'6™, at a combined concentration of 10% by weight in a specialized Hyaluronic Acid delivery system." 🙁 I honestly saw no change/ improvement using this twice a day for a little over 2 months. I'm also recently noticing some serious lines across my forehead that seem to be more deeply etched than before, so this product is a no for me.
▪️New: #theplantbase Time Stop Collagen Ampoule derived from mushroom. The leading ingredient is 76.52% Hericium Erinaceum Extract and I have high hopes for this. The claim: "to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, and macadamia seed oil combine to intensely hydrate skin, while aloe and Centella soothe irritation and redness."
⏳This is the first mushroom extract I'm trying, and I have high hopes based on everything I've read, not just for anti-aging benefits but also for hydration and calming benefits. I've been using this twice a day for the past 3 days, and so far so good - goes on smooth and absorbs quickly, no pilling, and it's also fragrance-free! Of course, as with any anti-aging product it's going to take a while to see results, but I'll keep you posted.
Went a little hard on exfoliation this past week. I have the smallest sample of Good Genes (.17oz/5ml) and I've probably used it ten times over three weeks. Too much. Even the gentler acids, like lactic or mandelic, can be irritating. But basically I wanted to confirm that the GG didn't break me out...and indeed it did not. I have seen really good results from the GG, I just needed to simultaneously up my moisture game elsewhere. So, trial completed, I'm buying a full bottle during the @sephora sale this weekend. Very excited. At this rate, an ounce could last me a year. This morning's routine (after sheet-masking and B-Hydra last night):
@cerave hydrating cleanser (np)
@thayersnatural unscented af toner (np)
@deciem couple drops of TO HA mixed in with @sundayriley Tidal (I know Tidal already has HA but what's a little extra kick of it going to hurt)
@cerave cream on my neck and hands
@drunkelephant C-Tango. So divided on picking up the full on this one. I know it's a new product, so no one can probably say, but I'm trying to calculate how long it would last me. Lord knows I've been working off a mega sample made in-store at Sephora for weeks now. A little seems to go a very long way. Hmmmmmmm.
@algenist SPF (np but the same one as always)
Did you know dehydrated skin can be more dangerous for acne than oily skin? If you have excess oil, but dry, flaky skin, it might be time to visit your dermatologist to see what you can do to treat it!
