Today we were both inside and out as students created their second #cyanotype prints!🎨 Is that creativity blooming above the school? Or maybe some frustration? Or maybe just a whole crazy mix of emotions as we wind up the year??✨🤷🏼♂️✨
Their designs were MUCH more thoughtful and I was impressed with their overall growth with the process.🌱
But also, some real ness - Friday’s at the end of the year can be so hard. Of the many humorous moments, I was called a “snitch” by a student for calling him out for playing games during another class (we talked and he apologized later).🤦🏼♂️
They have really begun to lose their ability to keep 👏🏼it👏🏼together👏🏼. I feel like teachers are right behind them in that!😜
One moment at a time. One breath, one conversation, one hour.🙏🏼
I’ve been testing various light sensitive agents on ceramics, troubleshooting processes for my class in Interdisciplinary Projects at @harvardceramics this summer. These are cyanotype on bisqued porcelain and will likely turn dark red/brown when fired to vitrification. If you love the blue, printing onto already fully fired clay would be the way to go. Interested in exploring processes like this? Enrollment is still open! Class meets Monday evenings June-July and participants will take part in an exhibition as part of the annual sculpture walk at @oldfrogpondfarm at the end of the summer. Feel free to DM with questions :) #alternativeprocess#ceramics#cyanotype#interdisciplinary#art#motherfstop#fineartphotography#my_vimpt
#art done today! Solar print of airplants (Tillandsia spp.)- first image is plants on top of #cyanotype treated fabric. Then swipe left to see: fabric after 11 min exposure to sun, wet fabric after rinsing in water, and final dry #plants#print result! #plantsofinstagram
SAAL DIGITAL REVIEW
I've been invited to review SAAL printing services and what can I say - the whole experience was a smooth and pleasant sail.
I have scanned and then ordered a print of one of my skeleton leaf cyanotypes. I wanted to see how an image, that might be expected to be printed on Fine Art or Structured paper, will look on something opposite - Acrylic glass. So, I have ordered a 20 x 20 cm print with a standard mounting.
To order a print it is possible to use an online uploader, but I have chosen to use a desktop app - they look quite similar at first glance. The app was straightforward and easy to use, and don't be afraid to go back with your steps - all data is already saved.
The print was well protected for the shipping, and obviously made with great care. Here you can see a fragment of a signature Scottish architecture reflected in the shine of Acrilic cyanotype. (: Never thought I would need to write a sentence like that :) My "standard mounting" choice contained a simple and stylish zinc plated that looks pretty neat and was very so easy to use. So that picture was on the wall in no time! I have decided not to use the standoff pads have binned them by mistake), but I like that my print is gracefully tilted now, since I am looking at it from my desk.
Details and colors of the print are great and I am happy to have this on my wall now <3
Made these cyanotypes for my my AP Photo exchange today. Love the subtleties of this process. And a lil treat yo self feather bracelet at the end. Impromptu purchase with @obscuragirl during our dept chair lunchtime.
A cyanotype (in progress) @caitlin_a_parker and I did together last year based on an illustration for Idunn by @sophilecuyer. Can’t wait to reveal the latest thing Caitlin and I have been working on. That woman is a creative force!
