I’ve just finished this beautiful coming of age tale and I adored every page. Set against the glamorous backdrop of 1920s jazz-filled country house parties, it’s a tale of growing up, secrets, finding yourself and love.
It follows Lou, a Cornish teen, who is looking for something more than just marriage. When the mysterious Cardews (dazzling and infamous socialite siblings) arrive in her sleepy town for the summer, things begin to get interesting...
I broke my book ban, but just a little bit, for this.
I’ve picked it up and put it back in lots of different book shops now, but, this is a book I have wanted for a good while now and am very excited to read it.
Also, I’m in a good place with my tbr, I’m down to 85 books (from 184, when I first freaked out about the amount) and I certainly like being sub-100. I still have a little way to go, and so the ban won’t be going anywhere for a little while yet, but I finally feel like I am making progress.
Have you read this? What were your thoughts? And do you have a tbr management system? Mine now is that after I read 6, I am allowed to buy one, so I get regular rewards while seeing the book pile go down in regular chunks.
To Your Eternity konnten mich komplett überzeugen.
📚 "We think of empathy – the ability to feel the suffering of others for ourselves – as the ultimate source of all good behaviour. But while it inspires care and protection in personal relationships, it has the opposite effect in the wider world. As the latest research in psychology and neuroscience shows, we feel empathy most for those we find attractive and who seem similar to us and not at all for those who are different, distant or anonymous. Empathy therefore biases us in favour of individuals we know while numbing us to the plight of thousands. Guiding us expertly through the experiments, case studies and arguments on all sides, Paul Bloom ultimately shows that some of our worst decisions – in charity, child-raising, criminal justice, climate change and war – are motivated by this wolf in sheep's clothing" .
📚 "This selection of George Orwell’s writing, from both his novels and non-fiction, gathers together his thoughts on the subject of truth. It ranges from discussion of personal honesty and morality, to freedom of speech and political propaganda. Orwell’s unique clarity of thought and illuminating scepticism provide the perfect defence against our post-truth world of fake news and confusion" .
I think these two recently acquired gems pretty much summarize where I stand in this crazy new world.

#currentlyreading
Every month, we read a book about self-improvement, career, and productivity. ✨📖 For May, we read Maximize Your Potential: Grow your Expertise, Take Bold Risks, and Build an Incredible Career, from 99U.
This book is in the same series as our book for last month, however this one focuses on you as individual, the way you think and grow personally. A lot of times we get caught up in improving our careers/businesses/projects but growing oneself is the absolute foundation of that and this book is filled with reminders. There is some good guidance in here and since it’s in a short essay/list format, the words are easy to remember and you’ll find them popping into your brain.

What am I doing awake right now?! Oh yeah, I just finished cleaning/ doing my unboxings. I also worked until close to 8pm tonight with Dania on @shelflovecrate things AND my family and I (mostly the fam) got the last Shelflove Boxes packed and ready to ship tomorrow 🙌 AND I packed @loveyoumorestudio orders, we picked out our favorite 3 names for our giveaway (announcing winners tomorrow hopefully!) and now I can kick back in my clean room, light some candles, sip some coffee and read my books for 7 days straight (okay, with the occasional break to watch everyone’s unboxings 😊)
Speaking of Unboxings, who else is excited it’s basically Book Box week here on Instagram? I feel like most boxes shipped last week and this week and I’m so excited 😆 I kind of spoiled myself a bit this month and I can’t wait to show you all the goodies arriving 💜 One of which will be the @flickthewick May box, AND an order I placed of past box candles she released for a limited time 🙌 I snagged some of my faves! You can grab some of Angeline’s amazing candles and use REWIND10 to save 10% at @flickthewick. Also, I LOVE my Darkling magnetic bookmark from @dreamyandco. @starsabovejess has a rep code if you find yourself needing a Darkling bookmark too 😉🖤
Who is your favorite Grishaverse character?
—you’re distracting me as i write this. if every night should be its darkest when you are with me, let it be. if the walls need to go deaf, i praise the climbing roses for covering their ears. if skies should go blind for us to create our moments, i thank the almighty sun. i worship all the gods as if they exist to make us happen. for all of the languid dawns and eves of dusk we’ve serenaded. for all of the flowerchildren that came out of my mouth. i’ve had wonderful. i’ve had lovely. i’ve had amazing. i can name a garden for each of these warm things and tinglings but you are so much more. i don’t want to stop writing but i do because you’re here. i can’t miss a second. i take and i take and i am giving everything. i was only a brown rose but you swarmed me into rose gold and swooning —*i don’t know how autumn feels but i am falling with the leaves*

⭐ One Star
I really wanted to like this one 😥 I've read all of John Green's books and liked them all, I even payed full price for it when it first came out which is unusual for me. But I just couldn't get into it, I only got 40% through it and I could not read anymore. I know I am in the minority with this one but I hated this book!
Çoğunlukla her türden kitap okuyorum.
