Our Charles Avison #exhibition opens in two weeks on Wednesday 9th May @toonlibraries.
UNDER THE COVERS … now what are these innocent looking #18thcentury#books going to tell us about Charles Avison?
Well, one of them is going to tell us he was a pioneering #European#thinker , another that in his lifetime his new #music was eagerly sought across #Britain and another that he had some very talented local colleagues. And finally one of these closed books is going to tell us that his music was played and well-known even after his death in 1770.
To find out what lies beneath these covers and even more about Avison’s fascinating life you do come along to the free exhibition on Level 6 of Newcastle City Library to explore more #heritage items relating to Avison’s life, music and career in #newcastle and the #northeast . We will be placing Avison in the context of 18th century Newcastle and #musical#Britain and will look at some of his important contemporary colleagues.
We’re really excited about the exhibition and events #exploring Avison’s Workbooks and music … and we hope you’ll explore and #celebrate Avison’s significance to Britain’s musical heritage and Newcastle’s #history by visiting the exhibition, as well as joining us at the talks and #concerts which explore Avison further.

À l’occasion du colloque international «Le Musée au défi», qui aborde le rôle de l’innovation numérique dans les musées, l’Arsenic présente deux soirées de performances d’artistes questionnant l’œuvre d’art à la lumière de son extension numérique et de sa mise en réseaux. Comment ces nouveaux canaux influencent-ils notre perception formelle et conceptuelle? En quoi les pratiques performatives y trouvent-elles une nouvelle urgence? Un programme en forme de questionnement d’un art à la réalité hyperconnectée, entre refus du marché de l’objet, identités liquides, revendications libertaires et utopies du commun.
