So this last Saturday we celebrated the 2nd #coloradopubliclandsday . Proud #publicland owners all across the state got out, enjoyed, and supported the wonders of #Colorado . We have 24 million stunningly beautiful, ecologically and geographically diverse acres of federally managed public lands here. It doesn't stop there, though. We also have @coparkswildlife managing our state lands and wildlife across all land, as well as countless partner groups, environmental education groups (like @leavenotracecenter), #advocacy groups (like @protectourwinters, @accessfund and @wildernesssociety), and volunteer corps (like @colorado14ersinitiative), along with #local governments all over the state doing their part in supporting the natural beauty, valuable ecosystems, and #outdoor recreation opportunities found here. In fact, Colorado is the only state in the country that dedicates its entire lottery fund to recreation and #conservation (and thanks to SB18-066, this is now the case until at least 2049!). The funding breakdown is as follows: 10% goes to @coparkswildlife, 40% goes to the Conservation Land Trust, and the remaining 50% goes to @greatoutdoorscolorado. This is spectacular forward thinking and appreciation of the value the natural #environment has to our state. So thank you, @govofco -- we appreciate your support of our land (and yes, it's your land too!) #optoutside#nature#ourwild#coloradophotographer#mountains#rimby#greatoutdoors
Beautiful night for Our Colorado Public Lands Celebration! Thanks to Commissioner Tim Corrigan and Representative Dylan Roberts for speaking about the importance of our public lands! Thanks @drobco for all your work to promote state climate action. Thanks for hosting Mountain Tap! #coloradopubliclandsday#getoutthere#climatechange#YVSCclimateaction
#coloradobha members came together today for clean ups in celebration of Colorado Public Lands Day. As #publiclandowners we all have an obligation to be stewards of the land we are privileged enough to call ours. Thank you to all who volunteered their time!
Today is the State of Colorado's Public Lands Day - an official state holiday. I couldn't make it to the state, so I went to the Colorado River and state park in Texas named appropriately to celebrate. #coloradopubliclandsday
Colorado Public Lands Day is today and we’re celebrating by donating 10% of all the profits from our rafting trips to help preserve and protect the wild and beautiful places that we all love to explore. #ColoradoPublicLandsDay#coloRADo
Happy Colorado Public Lands Day! We’re a pretty diverse state, with prairie, sage, alpine, desert, and riparian ecosystems worth celebrating and protecting.
Pictured L to R: Pawnee Buttes, Pawnee National Grassland - prairie; Greater Sage-grouse, BLM land in Moffatt County - sagebrush; Pikes Peak over Garden Of The Gods, Pike NF - alpine and prairie; rafting the wild Yampa River in Dinosaur National Monument - Desert, riparian. 'In May 2016, Colorado became the first state in the nation to establish a state holiday for our public lands. The third Saturday in May is now recognized as Colorado Public Lands Day, a day to celebrate how our public lands are central to our economy and our quality of life.'
Today is the 2nd #coloradopubliclandsday . Let's talk about that--#publicland . This concept and its benefits and uses mean different things to different people; state by state; region by region. I think #Colorado and all of us who live in and love this state have made it clear that we value our public lands--not necessarily for one activity or purpose over the other, but rather for the tangible and intangible collective benefits they provide. Over 1/3 of Colorado is comprised of public lands. #Nationalparks ranging from the iconic peaks of @rockynps to the surreal dunefield of @greatsanddunesnps; from the dark depths of @blackcanyonnps to the dizzying structures of @mesaverdenps. Our #nationalforests contain many of the famous mountain vistas, aspen stands, wildlife and general #wilderness we love to have as our daily backdrop. Our #wildlife refuges are critical for supporting and preserving the biodiversity o ye range of ecosystems need to function. Those are just a couple of examples of the extreme range in landscapes, agencies, and benefits of their protection. Whether you hike, camp, fish, hunt, view, paddle, peddle, skin up or just ski down, or even just live in Colorado, the benefits of OUR public lands are clear. Our state #economy is booming because of our relationship with these lands. Just the outdoor #recreation industry alone contributes nearly $2 billion just in tax revenue! Not only that, but nearly 230,000 jobs are within the outdoor recreation realm. So let's go, Colorado -- let's continue to lead the charge in valuing, protecting, and thoughtfully managing our public lands well into the future. Examples must be set and we can he the ones to set them for the whole country.
Saturday, May 19 is Colorado Public Lands day! Get outside and celebrate your lands! Colorado became the first state in the nation to establish a holiday recognizing the value of public lands within the state. The state’s 24 million acres of public land are a defining part of our heritage, identity, and unique way of life. Public lands generate $722 million for the state’s economy and support over 45,000 jobs.
Today is #ColoradoPublicLandsDay , a good day to #GoOutside and go for a #hike . There's a lot going on around #Colorado , including events at @coparkswildlife state parks. Check out the events and also my featured hike for this week in my column at the @csindependent by clicking the link on my website (see bio). @visitcolorado @visitcos @visitpikespeak @epcparks @cospringsparks
Today we are celebrating Colorado Public Lands Day! We understand that public lands are vital for our community, humanity, sanity, and economy, and for this we strive to support education, advocacy, and stewardship around our public lands. As an outdoor retail store, Bristlecone is in the unique position to often be the sole point of contact for backcountry users before they head out, and because of this we feel that it is important to educate customers not only on the gear they are purchasing, but also on the importance of environmental stewardship and backcountry ethics so that we can all continue to safely and responsibly enjoy our public lands for years to come.
Hike with us and @wildernessworkshop today up the Arbaney Kittle Trail from 1-4pm and then join us for happy hour with discounted drinks and snacks at @capitolcreekbrewery from 4-6pm! And if you're lucky you might even score some free @darntoughvermont socks! 📸: @brianstixmarsh .
It’s Colorado Public Lands Day!
I don’t think I need to spout any facts or figures at any of you about how important our public lands are, or why they should be protected. Or tell you that simply walking through nature has proven and statistically significant health benefits. That being in awe (like I was here 👆🏽) lowers levels of stress and cortisol.
Because when places like this exist, who needs another reason to get outside? 🤷🏻♀️
