☝️Carrot: Easily digestible. Babies/toddlers love the sweet taste.
☝️ Courgette: Strengthen bones and promotes brain development. ☝️ Oat muffin: Slow releasing carbohydrates keeps you fuller for longer.
☝️ Cucumber & carrots sticks: hydrating and excellent on gums. Easy to pick up for little ones.
☝️ Hummus: Wait until after 1 year old as can upset digestive system.

Took a risk tonight and fed the kids something that had basil, pesto, tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. And they ate it! Do you struggle with picky eaters? Are you a picky eater?
Neither my husband or I are picky and we have exposed our children to many types of food since they were babies. I really believe this helps in creating children with a more adventurous palate.

The more and more i lean about how food impacts our body, the more i feel for kids in America. From a very young age they are fed loads and loads of SUGAR. Candy, juices, chips. We grow up addicted to sweets and only eat things that give us emotional and not physical satisfaction.We literally set the stage for them to become sickly adults with no DISCIPLINE or self-control. A lot of these “Genetic” diseases are not written in your genes. It’s because your parents were eating GARBAGE, fed you GARBAGE and now you struggle with the same health problems they do. It’s up to you to disrupt the cycle. Do it for the kids man 😩👼🏾
For any of y’all who don’t know where it was that I started this journey.. it was right here, at 19 years old, in my parents’ basement. It was this photo that made me cry so hard that I just knew life wasn’t meant to be lived this way. It was this photo that made me walk in to my first Weight Watcher’s meeting, unsure of what I was getting myself in to or where that road might take me, or what the fuck I was even doing - but knowing in my heart that any action I took was better than staying where I was.
It was there I was given this bookmark, which I’ve now hung on to for 13 years. Weight Watchers was only where my journey began, and not at all where I ended up.. but this tattered piece of sticker covered flimsy tagboard was my lifeline back then and it remains invaluable to me still.
At my second meeting on my second week, I stepped on the scale to discover I had lost 11.6 pounds. Granted my starting weight was nearly 300 pounds, but that night I received this bookmark AND a gold star to go on it - as well as claps and cheers and an outpouring of support from a room full of people fighting my same fight.
That was the night I made up my mind. I still didn’t have a clue what I was doing, where I was going, or how the fuck I was going to lose 110 MORE pounds. But I DID know without a doubt that I could do what it took to earn me ONE more star. And then I did it... again and again, over 20 more times. ✨💜✊🏽

Although we fully support ‘banning’ junk food manufacturers from promoting highly processed and palatable products on TV (before 9pm) and social media, it’s important to remember that it’s not only impossible to eliminate childrens’ exposure to unhealthier foods and fluids completely, but that the internet doesn’t just expose influential infants to visually appealing adverts for fast food and sugar sweetened fluids, it also exposes body conscious children and adolescents to an abundance of diets and detoxes that can be equally as detrimental to their physical and psychological health as developing poor food preferences as a result of targeted advertising. Instead of dedicating every ounce of energy to preventing the promotion of ‘bad’ foods and fluids, we firmly believe that we should be focusing on EDUCATING, not eliminating, by teaching tots how to form a healthy relationship with food AND their figure from an early age, as well as how manipulative and misleading food manufacturers can be when it comes to the promotion of the foods and fluids that they should be munching in moderation. At the end of the day, it’s impossible to eliminate childrens’ exposure to ‘junk’ food completely, but it’s not impossible to teach a fundamental form of food education that will ensure they gain the nutritional knowledge needed to consume a healthy, BALANCED diet that doesn’t involve banning, restricting or eliminating food in any way.

This little hero food, quite literally meaning ‘oily’ is high in omega 3 fatty acids, fibre and protein, contains vitamins and minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium and is also high in antioxidants. These little seeds swell and absorb water (up to 9 times their own weight) it’s therefore important to soak them first when offering them to little ones. Also bear in mind that an adults daily limit of seeds should not exceed 15g, therefore for little ones this amount is much less.
These make a brilliant breakfast, and will keep energetic little people fuller for longer thanks to the oats and seeds!
Ingredients/What I used:
⭐️1 banana, mashed
⭐️1 cup milk (coconut, cows, any milk will do!)
⭐️1/2 cup chia seeds
⭐️1 cup rolled porridge oats
⭐️1 scant teaspoon baking powder
⭐️1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
⭐️1 egg, lightly whisked ⭐️1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract ⭐️Desiccated coconut, fruit etc for topping!
Method/What I did:
🌟Preheat the oven to 180 degrees fan, then begin by whizzing up the banana and milk in a blender. Decant the mixture into a bowl and place the seeds to soak in the sweet liquid for at least 20 minutes. 🌟Whilst the seeds are soaking, combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
🌟Once the seeds have swollen (you’ll notice the liquid thicken and turn a little gelatinous) pour into the dry ingredients and add the egg and vanilla.
⭐️Mix thoroughly, before placing into a fairy cake sized (trusty silicone) cake tray. Top with fresh or frozen fruit or coconut before baking for 15 minutes.
Cool, chill, serve or open freeze before storing in freezer bags. 26 Breakfast bites.

Thinking about emotional eating. Not just I’m sad so I ate 250 Oreos, but rewarding myself for a hard day or completing a program and allowing myself treats. “Dieting” mentality vs “lifestyle” mentality. Who else struggles with this?

Currently the only ad-blocker they've got is covering their eyes – that's crazy. We need the governments to step in. Childhood Obesity is still on the rise. The number of overweight or obese infants and young children (aged 0 to 5 years) increased from 32 million globally in 1990 to 41 million in 2016. #AdEnough ✋ as a community nutritionist working in the area of child weight-management, the issue of advertising unhealthy foods to young children is one very important to me. While I’m a great believer in a balanced diet and one that involves a variety of foods, childhood obesity is a complex issue which can leave young children with years of damage to their physical and mental health - not to mention the social consequences like bullying and insecurity. We need to encourage children to eat and enjoy a diet that energises them and contains all food groups, we need to engage them in physical activity and games, teach them that it’s okay to have that ice cream on a sunny day or dessert after dinner sometimes - and support a way of eating that nourishes them and makes them feel good. At the same time, we have to take responsibility for the fact that advertised junk food WILL influence their choices and give them little to no nutritional benefit - especially important for school aged children whose bodies and brains are still developing. So... who else has #AdEnough ?

The benefits of #breastfeeding for both #babies and #moms are well known. They include decreased gastrointestinal issues, respiratory issues, protection against some infections, and may even help prevent #childhoodobesity .
The American Academy of Pediatrics (@aap_pediatrics) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, with continued breastfeed along with complementary foods for 1 year or longer, which many moms will tell you is not easy! Luckily, there are great resources to help with issues that may arise during breastfeeding, including using the services of well trained lactation consultants.
Womenhealth.gov (Office on Women's Health - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) also has many helpful resources, including a free downloadable PDF version of the book "Your Guide to Breastfeeding" to help with some of the basics and beyond!
