Wednesday - 6mi in the am with 2 tempo miles thrown in. Went off feel for tempo and hit 7:27 and 7:34... 8:21 average pace!

Thursday - 5 mile easy (2 with the pups) before work, 9:05 average. I find I’m better at getting up early when it’s an easy run day 😂 also worked abs and arms during lunch 💪🏼

I’ve been slowly cutting for awhile now, and week to week the progress has been pretty minor. This past week something really clicked with my body’s response and I’m more motivated & ready to do this thing than ever.. 😏👙 .

An easy progression run tonight. Splits: 10:21, 10:17, 10:10, 9:57, 8:58. Yes, I log lots of miles at 10+ pace and no, I’m not ashamed to post “double digit” splits because A LOT of my running progress is credited to slowing down my pace and monitoring my max aerobic heart rate aka the MAF Method! If you’re trying to build a base before diving into more structured training, I would suggest following the MAF Method. It’s helped me become a much more efficient and faster runner! #tbt to our first trail race last summer! The Black Out Night Run 13k thrown by @aravaiparunning in Flagstaff. It was such a fun race, we had no expectations, just went out and had fun! It was pitch black with the trees and cloud cover and our night lamps barely worked so we ended up using our phone flashlights😂 we were flying at the end and about a mile from the finish I (Riss) tripped on something and ate it hard. Dusted myself off and picked it back up and we got it done! Ripped my @lululemon crops😭 and had some sweet battle wounds and gnarly knuckles. No spring in my step today after yesterday’s intervals. Thankfully I just had 5 easy miles on the schedule. Legs were very tired, but the weather was perfection. I got to run at my parents, which is always a treat! They have a really nice trail near their house that I love to run on.  There were quite a few other runners and walkers out, which is also a treat since you know I usually run alone...in my basement. 😂 The problem is that when I see a runner ahead my instinct to pick them off kicks in and I can’t control myself. Yes we’re racing! 😆 Will be eating all the carbs today as I prepare for my LAST 20+ mile run tomorrow! 🙌🏻#eatallthecarbs

Running has helped me to become a more confident person on so many levels. I have run with 100s of strangers who have become friends and teammates.  I have become happier in my own skin.  Having struggled with body image issues since I was a teenager, running had helped me recognize how strong I am from the inside out and I finally feel happy when I look in the mirror.  I have become a coach, a mentor and a volunteer, helping to show others how running can change your life in so many ways. I still have many goals ahead of me, but I am really proud and thankful of the journey so far 💙💛 .

Today is my scheduled running rest day and while I really wanted to catch up some strength and core work I've missed the past week, I think I am just going to focus on recovery today. Recovering from this illness as well as letting my legs and body take a break.

I do however at least plan to prioritize stretching and rolling today, so I just took a little 5 minute break from work and got some stretching in before everyone else arrives. 
In the past I never realized how important taking these rest days were. I also didn't realize how stretching, rolling and caring for my body are equally as crucial. I feel like I always "knew" these things, but never really thought they were "that important". I am seeing first hand how much better I feel incorporating all of these aspects into my training, as well as running my easy days as easy miles and not trying to go out and race ever run.

I've definitely come much further in my running journey and knowledge this year/training cycle and that really excites me. That excited me because I know I have so much more potential and we are just beginning to crack into that. I am so happy I chose to work with a coach this year as well. I am learning so much from him and really love all the feedback (good and bad) that he provides me.  Maybe someday I'll be able to help someone the way he helps me😉

Sorry for the rambling, today is just one of those days where I'm feeling optimistic and on fire🔥🔥, so damn excited to be on this goal chasing journey😁

Today is my scheduled running rest day and while I really wanted to catch up some strength and core work I've missed the past week, I think I am just going to focus on recovery today. Recovering from this illness as well as letting my legs and body take a break. I do however at least plan to prioritize stretching and rolling today, so I just took a little 5 minute break from work and got some stretching in before everyone else arrives. In the past I never realized how important taking these rest days were. I also didn't realize how stretching, rolling and caring for my body are equally as crucial. I feel like I always "knew" these things, but never really thought they were "that important". I am seeing first hand how much better I feel incorporating all of these aspects into my training, as well as running my easy days as easy miles and not trying to go out and race ever run. I've definitely come much further in my running journey and knowledge this year/training cycle and that really excites me. That excited me because I know I have so much more potential and we are just beginning to crack into that. I am so happy I chose to work with a coach this year as well. I am learning so much from him and really love all the feedback (good and bad) that he provides me. My theory is: race on hills, train on hills. Race on flats, train on hills⛰The rest of my races this spring are pretty hilly but I think I’ll be looking for a “flat and fast” fall marathon to see what these legs can do with as little elevation gain as possible😂 I tend to migrate towards hillier races so this will be a change😜💥

It’s so rewarding when we all end up on the same page and the student’s accomplishments are recognized and celebrated!! One of my coworkers today asked me about my training. I told her I was training for a BQ, and she said, “You’ll get there. I know it. You have the drive.” No hesitation. I love feeling so supported!! And I know I will (so long as God blesses me with the health to train), hopefully in my next marathon!! I want to support you guys too- mostly followers of my future at this point!! Since I've been under the weather this week, my coach thought it would be better to skip my speed workout altogether this week and let my body get the recovery it needs. This is hard for me, especially since one of my first goal races is coming up pretty quickly. I didn't want to miss a workout but I am so thankful that I did get a coach this year because he made it very clear why this was the nest decision for me. He made me understand that rather than risking making my illness worse, we are letting my body recover so that I can come back and have a stronger week next week. Next week I can run hard. 
So today I did some very easy miles. In fact, today I started outside but it was raining a bit more than I thought and windier than I thought. Normally this wouldn't deter me, but since the goal was to let me body recover and get over this illness...I quickly turned around and went home to finish the remaining 9.5 on the dreaded treadmill.

To be honest, moving my legs felt good and I swear the only time I'm not congested is while I'm running but I kept it easy and didn't try to push myself at all.  Although it took some persuasion from my coach, I'm learning yet again another lesson on listening to my body!!! And I'm so grateful for these miles no matter what pace. Amongst the physical benefits, they helped me clear my mind to be able to come downstairs with a calmer sense to attempt to deal with the destruction that is now my kitchen 😳😱😳 How do people do this??? How do you deal with a kitchen remodel....especially with a million hungry mouths to feed!!!

Who uses a bullet journal? Any other runners out there that use one for documenting training plans? I just finished mapping out my #bqorbust training plan on a week by week basis. I decided that I wasn’t going to designate which days I would do each run to give myself grace due to weather and life priorities. Mapping it out makes it a little daunting - but if it isn’t scary then it isn’t worth doing right?? Also now I can return the #runlessrunfaster book by @runnersworldmag to the @wcplonline  I would love some new #bulletjournal ideas from other runners and how to incorporate it into other area of my life. 🙌🏼 BTW - Gellyroll pens are still just as awesome as they were in middle school. ..

5 miles this AM. Ufta.. I didn't eat the best yesterday and could feel it. Now that I'm eating what my body needs it hates when I don't. Kinda funny that I used to eat that way and thought that's how I should feel. When I eat well, my body can function so much better. Excited to get back to some routine.

I'm running my 20th half marathon next month and will be doing my 6th Full Marathon in September.
I can't decide between 2 marathons.
Huntsville- I ran this marathon in 3:53.  It felt good and didn't beat up my body.  8 minutes away from qualifying for Boston.  This race was great, I ran it well, and know I could cut off a few minutes.  This would be a tight race for me to Boston Qualify.
Revel Big Cottonwood-  This marathon is incredibly fast.  I was 15 minutes ahead of my Boston Qualifying time at mile 19.65.  Then I had the calf cramp that made it so I physically could not run and ended up walking 4 miles and trying to struggle running the last 2.  4:06 time. 
This race beat me up and broke my spirit.  I learned a lot.  I Know how I would train differently.  Mentally- I'm afraid of this race but know I could run a faster time.

So...do I run one that has a great memory, closer to home, and one that I could qualify for Boston on

One that defeated me last year, but I know where my mistakes were made, and how to run better and smarter and know that if I ran it well I could qualify for Boston with better time.

Easy 30 min jog with the pups this morning ☀️🐶🐻 I am super sore from my workout yesterday so just did some stretching and rolling tonight... really trying to focus on strength and just keeping my endurance base up until the start of my marathon training. •

I want to share some exercises soon I’ve also been incorporating in my workouts (and give all my runner patients!) to help with stability and hip strength. If you don’t know this already, hip strength (specifically glute max/med) is the foundation for keeping you running fast and INJURY FREE. 98% of over use injuries can be traced back to a week lumbopelvic connection. #foodforthought

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” Why are we so afraid to say our goals out loud? Is it fear of disappointing someone? Maybe ourselves? Last year during marathon training, I said, “It would be cool to qualify for Boston.” I said this with the thought in my mind that I could never do it. One of my greatest weaknesses as a runner and often times in life is my constant self-doubt (yea, I’m working on that 🤷🏼‍♀️). So this is me, putting it out there that I’m determined to qualify for Boston. It’s not going to be easy, and it might not be this year or next year, but with enough discipline, training, and positive self talk, I WILL do it. Watch me! And if any of you veterans have any words of advice/encouragement, I’m all ears 😊

And ok so technically my foot isn’t in my armpit, but it doesn’t really go there these days anyway so close enough 😊 today is the last day of this challenge but it isn’t the last day of practicing.
