THE POWER OF THE UNSPOKEN WORD...... The fall crush, fetes, and antique shops in the French villages along the German border was the agenda for the day. Old wounds apparently still fester in this area, as I was questioned by a shop clerk as to wether I really wanted it, “It’s German you know”‼️. Later that afternoon we entered a rather intriguing shop and were greeted by a middle aged woman and a nod from her elderly father. We chatted (en Englais ) oohed and awed as the elder man approached and tapped Doug on the shoulder. AMERICAN⁉️ was his only word, that and a hand gesture to follow him. I was oblivious and engrossed in the hunt, but later I learned he had taken Doug back to their kitchen and plopped down a bottle of wine, two glasses and proceeded to share his news clippings from WWII. Few words were spoken or understood, aahs, ouis, sighs and nods of the heads... communication of two souls which in this moment in time became one. After wrapping my treasure we were escorted outside and as we waved goodbye from the bottom of their porch, This old French Patriot saluted us as tears streamed down his face. A touching moment, I will never forget. So heartening to know the sacrifice our boys made, the blood they spilled on foreign soil ⚜️ and now lie in graves buried in France’s fall foilage, 🍂🍁are today still remembered with honor and heartfelt gratitude. 🇺🇸 ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸LEST WE FORGET‼️ Veterans Day ‼️ French 19th century metal figurine of a Mastiff guard dog. “Babbit at the Barrier” by Charles Valton .
