Today’s #archivesartifact is the Bailey Rib Approximator. 
This intimidating medical instrument  is just one of many that comes from our Hahnemann Medical College early cardiac surgical instruments collection which reflects @hahnemannhospital’s history of cardiac care. Created in the late 1940s by Dr. Charles Bailey, this tool was used in cardiothoracic surgery--or surgery of the chest, lungs, or heart. Dr. Charles Bailey, who was called “one of the most daring innovators in heart surgery” by Time magazine, was a 1932 graduate of Hahnemann Medical College.

As part of the international Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological (PURE) study <http://www.coheart.ca/projects/pure/>, researchers measured grip strength in nearly 140,000 adults in 17 countries and followed their health for an average of four years. A device called a dynamometer was used to assess grip strength.
Each 11-pound decrease in grip strength over the course of the study was linked to a 16% higher risk of dying from any cause, a 17% higher risk of dying from heart disease, a 9% higher risk of stroke, and a 7% higher risk of heart attack. (Link in bio) .

The Avocado perfection craze is a real thing.  Pomegranate cutting perfection is also a real thing! (for me anyway!) ❤

There's a pretty nifty technique which when followed doesn't cut into any of the seeds, which ultimately cuts out the potential juicy mess! #winning 🌟

Pomegranates are considered a functional food due to the rich phytochemical compounds. These compounds together with flavonoids, anthocyanins + tannins are the main group of antioxidant phytochemicals that are important due to their free radical scavenging activities.

I could write an essay on the potential health benefits of these crimson jewels.  But I've got a BSc Nutritional Therapy course to complete, so insta post vs real work is crucial balance for me at the moment!

What do you think is more effective for cardio, high intensity sprints or long distance running?  I prefer doing high intensity sprints for 10 to 15 minutes rather than running for 45 minutes or an hour. Thus, once or twice a week I will do these sprints with some primal yells and do long distance running every week or 10 days. Also, randomly throughout the day I will do a sprint without a warmup to mimic the behavior of our hunter gatherer ancestors. For instance,  imagine being around the campfire and all of a sudden you and your  hungry buddies saw a delicious deer in the distance or some enemy tribe began to attack. BOOM! Your body has to be ready and conditioned for high intensity cardio or else you would not survive. Did you ever try barefoot running? It is definitely something you have to condition your feet to before you go out and just do it!  Last winter during a blizzard I had to shovel a path for my neighbor so he could get to the ambulance on the main road. The snow was so deep non of the equipment was effective so I had to shovel it.  That made me realize being in cardio vascular shape is not an option but rather is a requirement for survival! However modern people think they can get away with being out of shape since how "convenient" and easy our lives have become. While it may be difficult and stressful in the beginning because you are out of shape and tired, it pays off to continue exercising because when you finally get good it is such a satisfying and wholesome feeling that permeates your being all the time! Hi,In 2006, that was a year of lots of changes. It came with the loss of my Dad and the purchase of my home. From my picture you can see I was not happy as I was touring the building of my home. I was sweaty and I way overweight. 
Yes I did lose 40 lbs by exercise, rest and eating meals at regular intervals. But after more of life's battle scars and my surgery in 2013. I needed to take charge again and become important in my own life. 
So often I run around helping others and at the end of the day realize. I took care of everyone else but me. It seems simple to rearrange my day to add in another errand or two but then mine never get done since I forget to run mine. I forget to make me important. 
When I say I am making me important, it sounds so self centered and wrong. But when I don't take care of me, I get sick. So I have to put it in perspective and realize if I am not well I cannot help others. 
Looking at today's pictures, in person, I feel long and lean. Which is how I want to be. I am not going for skinny or a particular number on the scale.  I am 5'6" and I love it when my proportions fit me. So Long and Lean just like my jeans 👖👍. 1- Rest / Recharge / Rebuild

I took it back #oldschool today. I know I am no way near what I call "basketball shape" so for some insane reason I decided to go run #suicides . I ran 5. It was #brutal and my mind wandered to 29 years ago when I had to run a timed drill for Van Syoc in football practice. First of all I never switched the football from side to side around the poles (I held it in one hand) and then Van Syoc started yelling "Monday......Tuesday....Wednesday" instead of 4....5...6 to let me know how slow I was going. Problem was I already knew my speed was not my strength. He said "good thing you can throw the ball" #basketball #outdoorworkout #cardio #cardiovasular #anaerobic #endurance

I did the #MurphChallenge for the 2nd straight Thursday. It is my 5th #MurphChallenge completed. I was able to improve by 12 minutes compared to last week and moved up 82 spots in rankings.
