Just finished 5 weeks here at #medalta . It's always a pleasure meeting new residents, catching up with staff and of course making new work. Here I show a salt fired tray, with a soda fired whiskey set on one picture and a tea set on the other.... Depending on ones mood.
🎂 @suemcleodceramics 🎂 It’s her birthday today. Read the original post below. ・・・
Two sides of the same piece, two representations of the same object, confronting each other. One side has inner light and the other side has light only on the surface.
Do you ever feel like your insides don't match your outsides? Like the "you" you are presenting to the world is different than the real "you" on the inside?
Do you ever say "I'm fine" when you're not fine? Do you think the person who asks how you're doing wants to know how you're really doing? Or are they just asking politely and expecting a polite answer? How do we be our true authentic selves in a world that only wants to hear how fine we are? #howareyouimfine

So my super inspiring partner David McMillan has been quietly making pots for years, and I’d like to share some of his work with you! He will be launching his line of locally sourced, wood fired pottery this weekend. His process is considerably different than most potters, as he harvests all his raw materials for his clay body and glazes from a variety of areas in Manitoba. If you are in Winnipeg we would LOVE it if you stopped by our heritage studio building! Over 30 artists will be at our @artlingtonstudios for Doors Open Winnipeg this Sat May 26th from 11-5 and Sunday May 27th 11-3. We will also be hosting an extended Studio Warming with some wine and refreshments on the Sat evening from 5-8. You can also check out Dave’s website https://mcmillanpottery.com. #locallysourced#clay#woodfiredpottery#handmadepottery#canadianceramics#winnipegart#doorsopenwinnipeg#artlingtonstudios
The countdown is on!!! 3 days until the Guelph Potters Market held in Royal City Park in Guelph from 10-5pm both Saturday the 26th andSunday the 27th. Guelph Potters Market boasts over 60 Potters this year!!!! Don’t miss out on the fun and unique market.
Recycling the porcelain trimmings. As a stoneware pottery I find porcelain a bit of a diva to work with, and the same holds true in reclaiming the scraps, you have to soak it for a few weeks, them blunge it for a while and finally put it through a glaze dive. However, when you pour that smooth slip out on to the plaster table to dry it back to a workable consistency, you remember just how sensual this stuff is, it looks like a white chocolate at beanermunky around the corner. The 905, is the PSH code for that porcelain, not to mix it up with the cone 6 clay I am using for my Carnegie exhibition this fall .
Some process photos of burning feathers onto one of my little pots yesterday. We take it out of the kiln red hot and then burn the feathers in. The carbon remains on the clay and leaves an impression. So beautiful - it’s magical. So excited to be learning this new firing technique - every pot teaches me something new and is an opportunity to discover a new appreciation for this art medium.
This clay is a mix of the Nova Scotia earthenware and raku clay. It’s beautiful in the colour and once it’s cleaned up I think the contrast will be stunning.

The girlfriends are back. Horse Baked Lady mugs just make me so happy. It’s like all my girlfriends are hanging out with me in the studio. ... and I do mean “hanging out” 🤭🤭🤭 I only made a handful this round. This series is about celebrating women. Women and girls of all shapes and sizes. We are all PERFECT. Have you ever felt not quite the right size or shape or not the right... whatever? Well I say enough is enough!!! We need to teach our young girls that they are perfect - full stop. And while we are at it, let’s rewrite our own stories we tell ourselves too. Whadyasay??? Are you with me. Let’s celebrate each other.
It’s always an exciting day when new work from @julianarempel arrives. If you’re looking for a special gift for a wedding, housewarming, birthday or just because, you really can’t go wrong with any pieces from her magnificent new series of work.
