Creamy cinnamon maca oatmeal topped with cherry compote and peanut butter anyone? 🍒 🍒 🍒
A lot of people dread camping food, but with the tiniest amount of forward thinking it can be so so easy to make a delicious breakfast. Recipe for this fantastic porridge below:
1 cup of oats (if you buy ones that are chopped up rather than the large flakes then they cook super easily)
1.5 cups of hot milk / almond milk
1 teaspoon maca powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Honey or maple syrup to sweeten
Cherry compote, raspberries, peanut butter and a sprinkling of granola make a great toppings combo for this.
1. Add the oats to the hot milk, and cook on a low heat for ~5 minutes
2. Stir in the maca powder, cinnamon and honey
3. Top with cherry compote, raspberries, peanut butter and granola (or to be honest, whatever else you fancy)

Spring must be here. Stinging Nettles! Once you blanch the leaves it knocks the stingers off making them an terrific candidate to add to a sauté, make a purée or in this case, @mikedonohue61 , let’s make an extruded pasta for 5/5, ya dig?

Have you seen the Jetboil Jetgauge yet? It takes the guess work out of what’s left in your cans. Just select which size canister you’re using, screw the gauge on, lift up, and voila. It’ll show the percentage of what’s left. Sure there are other ways to measure your cans (dropping them in water and seeing if they float, or weighing them on a kitchen scale), but this is definitely the slickest way to tackle the task. We had a few bucks left on an REI gift card so thought we’d give it a try. If you’re wondering what was cooked...breakfast hash, biscuits and gravy, sweet and sour chicken, and pad Thai. 🍴
When you mostly drink instant coffee, you almost forget how incredibly satisfying it is to get a a cup of real kokkaffe, made over an open fire. • Right now, we’re planning our next overnight trip. Stay tuned..

Today #FeastByFirelight turns two weeks old!!! (Do you have a copy yet? If not hop over to the link in my profile ☝️!) ⠀
The ride leading up to its launch was wild, and now I’m trying to take a step back, breathe, and soak in this simple thought: “I wrote a book!” 🎉⠀
It’s amazing how we can dream about something and labor over the process for so long that by the time the final work is born, everything steamrolls into a blur. I found myself going straight from launch to “what’s next?” 🏃♀️ ⠀
It’s actually taken me some effort to pull my own bum off the rollercoaster and stand on solid ground... and oh-so-worth it. I’ve been LOVING reading the amazing reviews pouring in on Amazon, the emails, and comments here and on Facebook. Some made me cry. It feels so good to see my efforts and intentions for the book reflected so clearly and purely. Thank you ❤️. ⠀
So where do I go from here? Well, I think about Ayla at two weeks old. I was transitioning from the high of her unforgettable birth into a new awareness as a mother, from introducing Ayla to MY people and my world to watching as she captured the attention of a stranger in the coffee shop or made the pediatrician laugh, and from decisions we made that would steer her path to those she chose (whether subconsciously) that would be formative in her life, like being breech. 👩👧
Like my experience as a mother, there is only so much I can do and will continue to do as an author to steer this book’s course, but the book itself has a life of its own! In it’s two weeks of infancy, it already has a community of readers, influencers, our incredible staff at @firelightcamps, and a phenomenal marketing team at @tenspeedpress and @penguinrandomhouse. There is a village that will raise this baby, and my job is to follow my intuition and trust it will find it’s way. ⠀
Thank you to all the amazing people in the #FeastByFirelight community for getting me and this book to this milestone! 🙏⠀
