My work is my life. It is my love, my passion, and my therapy 💫
Sure, there are stressors especially around being self employed and trying to accomplish it all. Those are worth noting because being a self employed flower farmer is not as dreamy as the pictures convey. Often times I feel like I can’t give my 100% to anything because I’m spread doing so much.
However, I’ve gotten pretty good at letting go, going with the flow, and dropping in when I can 💕 ⠀⠀
For example, I know that everything I do takes literally double the amount of time when I have my son with me. Progress is slow and I’ve just had to accept that 🌿 ⠀⠀
However, almost everything I do is with careful intention and most of the time, I follow my gut instinct with farming. With that, I am rewarded ✨

strawberry lemon freezer jam 🍓🍋🍓 | So I was at the farmer’s market this weekend and got there as it was closing. One farmer was selling a giant 6lb bag of strawberries for $5. The strawberries were really ripe, sweet and flavorful and so I decided to make freezer jam with them. Freezer jam is great because it’s not cooked and it preserves the freshness of the fruit. BUT it isn’t shelf stable, so store it in the freezer for a year or in the fridge for a few weeks. I put a lot of lemon in the jam because I like the contrast of tart and sweet. It turned out better than I expected and so if you come across really good strawberries, I highly suggest making it.
Here’s the scaled down recipe: In a bowl, crush 2.5-3lbs (de-stemed/halved) ripe strawberries with a potato masher; you should get 4 cups. Add the zest and juice of 2 lemons and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Put 3 cups sugar, 1.75oz box pectin (low/no sugar) and 1 cup water into a pot and boil for 1 min. Add crushed strawberries and stir for 1 min. Put into clean jars and store in the fridge or freezer. Because it’s not cooked, you can’t can this jam; gotta eat it fresh. Makes 8 cups.
Our dinner tonight is a veggie stir fry using only vegetables grown locally. We used our carrots, rainbow chard, and green cubanelle peppers from our home garden. We paired these with beautiful, mottled, magenta-white cippolini onions and incredibly sweet and flavorful green beans from @pickalittlefarm. When you buy from farmers like us, you can be rest assured you’re getting maximum flavor profiles!
We had an amazing time at the 2018 Sierra Vintners Spring Wine Trail this past Saturday! Thank you to everyone that came out to enjoy the tasty food, live music, beautiful views, and of course... the wine 🍷

This weekend, our #GarciaOnTheGo team enjoyed swinging by and pitching in at the Desert Sandblasters 4-H Club’s 15th Annual Produce Sale and #Agriculture Showcase. Nothing beats our vibrant and yummy home-grown, Coachella/Imperial Valley fruits and vegetables! Truly appreciative of all our #AD56Community farmers and farmworkers whose hard work sustains our economy and puts food on our tables. I have introduced #CALeg , AB 2106 to further prioritize the purchase of #CAGrown produce and offer much-needed support for our state’s local farmers. #AD56AtYourService
