How can you tell the difference between intuition and conditioning, and why does it matter? Intuition a deep sense of spontaneous right action, a knowing that because you are connected to all things in the Universe there is a best way to respond to each situation in order to support the whole system. Conditioning is an imprint on the unconscious mind, laid down from a past experience, that molds the way that you react and engage with the world around you. Intuition is expansion while conditioning is a contraction of awareness. Since both of these phenomenon come from a deep layer of ourselves it can be easy to confuse the two and mistake deep triggers for intuitive wisdom. They seem to come from the same place and each can give you a "gut feeling". So how can we tell the difference? According to Christopher Wallis, since conditioning is based in the ego, it will always fight for its existence. As soon as the trigger arises it will be accompanied by a desire or strong urge to defend its validity. Intuition is has no connection to ego, it comes from a place beyond our contracted experience of our individuality and so it has no impulse to defend itself. In order to decipher one from the other in the moment you need to be able to pause long enough to explore the subtle nuance that is accompanying your rising impulse. Yoga and meditation offer us this space. The sacred and important pause, the deep breath, the space between thoughts. This space will empower you to choose whether to react from a trigger or engage from a compassionate sense of deep connection. We owe it to ourselves and to the world to cultivate this space within us. #yoga#meditation
