Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I'll always get up after I fall.
And whether I run, walk or have to crawl,
I'll set my goals and achieve them all! 💪
What is your motivation sentence for the Muddy Angel Run? 😍
1 in 8 women in the US will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. In fact, every 13 min we lose another mother, daughter, sister or friend to this terrible illness. If breast cancer is found in the early stages, the survival rate is actually very good. Found early enough, your chance for survival beyond 5 years is almost 100%. We NEED to be doing self breast exams!!! If I told you that you could magnify your sensory touch receptors in your fingers and it could help you detect lumps and abnormalities way better than with bare hands....would you consider investing in a device that could potentially save your life by helping you find cancer in the early early stages? If you want to learn where you can get one of these re-usable devices, PLEASE let me know! It’s too important to pass up. #selfcare#breastcancerawarness#earlydetection#selfexams#magnification#mothers#daughters#sisters#friends#investinyourhealth#breastcancer#enhance#sensitivity
13th day post #breastcancer diagnosis.... “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.” Feeling all the feels, not necessarily the most inspiring feelings. But feeling any feelings versus the initial brain numbing shock on day 1 is a positive. Past the rage stage. In the “let’s gather every bit of knowledge possible” stage. Ya, that can be a double edged sword. Despite having a lifetime to prepare for the questionable inevitability of receiving such news, still, you just can’t predict how you’ll cope. My old coping mechanisms didn’t pan out so well in previous attempts at dealing with life’s curve balls. So, veering towards positive outlets like my love of #mealprepping & hanging with my #squad . The hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is be a mother & wife while my heart is breaking. There’s so much joy in the lil acts of self care & stealing time with your busy children. Best medicine any doctor could’ve ordered. Besides, I kinda like cooking up foods known to kick cancers nasty ass. My own way of joining the battle of those who’ve come before me in the #fightbreastcancer movement. My #faith remains steadfast that #godsgotthis . I have the strength of many amazing women in my family who’ve preceded me in the march towards many impending victorious wars to carry me through when my confidence in my own super powers fade as the days leading up to surgery get closer. We know that PINK Week is over but this story is too powerful not to share. This is the reason all women should get a mammogram, wether you think so or not, get one anyways. Here’s Julie’s story:
Two years ago I was a healthy, happy single mother of 4 kids and life was good. I was pretty fit for a 48 year old woman. I did Spartan's, mountain and road bike races and I was an avid hiker. Even though I entered bike races to support cancer, I had never had a mammogram myself. With no family history of cancer, I didn't think I needed one. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and on the last day of October 2015 I went to get a mammogram (just because I heard they gave away a cool bag with some spiffs and a T-shirt). Much to my shock and surprised they discovered I had invasive ductal carcinoma! (Breast cancer)
The next months were a blur of Dr. appointments and tests, a full Mastectomy on my left breast, and then a reconstruction. The medications they put me on were very hard on me, and at times I wondered if the side effects were worth it. Having my active lifestyle suddenly taken away was very difficult both physically and emotionally. About the time I felt like I was turning the corner and returning to normal health and activity, they discovered I now had cervical cancer. As I write this, I am currently recovering from a full hysterectomy that was necessary to remove that cancer from my body.
I could probably write a novel about everything that happened, and all I have been through. It's difficult to sum it all up in a brief Instagram post. And it wasn't all bad either. Along the way, I met my soul mate and I'm no longer a single mother. And I'm slowly working my way back into physical activity.
But there is one thing I know for certain looking back: that mammogram I got one October 31st saved my life! #elasespas#empoweringyou#breastcancerawarness#huntsmancancerinstitute

Today marks the day where 12years ago my dear Mother left us earthside and graduated to spirit. I hold her dear daily, but today, especially I hold her memory a little tighter. .
My eldest Son is very 'awake' when it comes to the awareness of the cycle of life. We speak about dear Nanna Jackie always. He tells me she visits him. I tell him as long as we keep her alive in our hearts she will always be with us. .
I asked him what he would like to do today to celebrate her. I offered to take them on a picnic. He said he would like to paint a flower for her. I told him Sunflowers were her favourite and he responded, "Rainbow ones?", yes dear one. She would love that. He chose to add pipe cleaners and pom poms as Sunflowers are fluffy.
The moment in time when she passed was particularly hard for me to navigate. But nothing could have prepared me for 'Motherless Motherhood'. If you are also a Motherless Mother, today I send you and your dear Mum love. If you know a braveheart who is missing her Mum, reach out to her in love today. Life can be tricky, we all have a story. Let's be the kindness in each other's days. .
Being Mum is hard and we couldn't do it without our 'Sisters'. So here is to us girls, our mothers wheather they are in spirit or by our side, and of course our dear children. .
The smell of paint and chatter of tiny voices brought me a memory today, a memory of my childhood friend @tamwarnerwilson and I in year one, painting side by side and our Mums waiting for us outside our classroom. The perfect timing for a beautiful memory. Just like that we go from being children to having them of our own. Life brings us many seasons. May we live them with love and light in our heart always. Let's celebrate each and every ordinary day.
