Today, as everyday, I'm missing my partner and best friend. Keeping it simple, we are two humans engaged in the immigration process in a strange time when it seems some days the world is retracting itself. Rising nationalism and xenophobia are affecting our lives on a daily basis as we navigate a daunting visa process. I made this in Tbilisi when we were both on a collage kick, but rediscovered today, I see my worry illustrated. Please support immigrants and refugees, or perhaps just some human that wants to move to a place that is not allowed to them based on a map some humans drew political borders on many years ago. Be compassionate for the millions of people in a much more dire situation than ours, and consider this Carl Sagan quote:
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Many of us, who do not have Indigenous ancestry, are where we are, because of immigration. What is your family's story? Why are so many of us complacent whilst understanding the plight of so many people seeking asylum around the world? Why do we deserve safety, security and opportunity, while others do not? Which party do you vote for? What is their stance on immigration/asylum seeker/refugee policies? We must understand our active role in affecting change. We are responsible.
