Almost done! ✨ This is the backside of my ✖️✖️✖️ #bluerkblocks quilt. I love the way the heathered denim blue flannel looks like a grainy vintage photo! 💙💙💙 I feel like I have been working on this forever! 🙈Family life has taken a front seat as my first year college student moved back home and there was so much catching up to do! 💕 My son has baseball happenings in full swing and that just can’t be missed either! I imagine that I will be playing catch-up on my pile of quilts the whole month of June! @craftycop #longarmquilting#freemotionquilting#quiltingfeathers#raspberrykissquilt
This is the most special quilt I’ve ever put together. While I’ve placed a few of my own blocks within this quilt, it’s been otherwise made by generous and caring quilters from all over the country. Over 150 of these quilts are in progress of being made. The mission is to provide comfort to the families of fallen police officers, and my small part was to piece these blocks together and see it to completion. I’m honored and privileged to do so. Thank you Jessica @craftycop for letting me be a part of it. #bluerkblocks
I clipped the binding to the quilt and look at all the binding left over!!! The maker of this binding is a rock star! I think there's enough for another quilt.! I love this star binding it goes so perfectly with this quilt top.
Even though we left the retreat yesterday I wanted to share these two last pictures. You all recognize this first picture I'm sure. It's a #bluerkblocks quilt. I love these quilts and the sentiment behind them. Swipe to see the sign when you enter the camp. We were actually leaving when I took this shot. The time spent here goes by so quickly, but it is full of laughter, good food and lots of catching up oh and don't let me forget crafting.
#bluerkblocks have been pieced together in a gorgeous quilt top. It will be dropped off at longarmers this week. Thank you for entrusting me to finish these pretty blocks into a quilt for the family of a fallen police officer. @craftycop this is a special cause. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. #quiltingforacause#toprotectandserve
Last post of #bluerkblocks in the wild. I think I'll go try out that swing tomorrow. It is In the most perfect location. I love these two quilts hanging side-by-side on the spilt rail fence. It's my favorite picture. I just need to bind the one and my job is done. I probably have held onto them long enough anyway.
Wonderful quilting is courtesy of @olieandevie and @heartfelt_quilts thanks Rhonda and Shannon you do amazing work!!!! I'm sure you agree @craftycop
#bluerkblocks quilt that @darent1842 and I made. @juliehirt did the quilting, #baptistheartclams so appropriate for this quilt. Deb and I have loaded it with love and hugs so it is ready to be called to service should that ever happen. Swipe to see more pics. It will wing it’s way to @CraftyCop very soon.
The second #bluerkblocks quilt is here at the retreat. I think it needs to take a trip on the wild side too. Plus I think both quilts need to have a photo op together. Photos do not do the quilting justice. I love it! @heartfelt_quilts it is so beautiful!! These quilts ooze love and caring. I'm so proud and at the same time humbled to be a part of this quilting community. All the outpouring of compassion and support is evident in these quilts. It makes me very teary-eyed to think of the reason behind these quilts of love. Praying you keep this one for years and years to come @craftycop
Here you go everyone especially you Jessica!!! Pictures of the retreat location with the #bluerkblocks quilt in the wild. I have been coming here two to three times a year for about four years and I love this place and all the wonderful ladies I have met over the years. It's so beautiful and peaceful here with the peepers peeping and the ducks swimming on thee lake. I hope the serenity of this place seeps into the quilt and brings some to the family it will eventually be gifted to. Thank you, Melinda for helping me pose the quilt for its pictures, you're too sweet!
@craftycop @knittingmeme1 #serenity
First pic of this #bluerkblocks quilt hanging out at the crafting retreat. I'm hoping to recruit some quilt holders while I'm here.
I will be sharing this quilt and the story behind it repeatedly over the next five days. I never get tired of talking about it. I'm honored to be a small part of your drive to help heal a fallen police officers family. @craftycop
All set up at the crafting retreat and this is what's on my reading list for the next five days. This is a do your own thing retreat so just unwinding and taking it slow is on my agenda for today. @craftycop #bluerkblocks quilt pictures will be popping up in my feed in the near future!
That's a wrap!!! My first #bluerkblocks quilt is done!!! Thank you to all the lovely quilty peeps who made blocks, @catsmeowtwo for helping to enlarge my blue fabric stash so this quilt could be a dream come true for me, @olieandevie for the fabulous quilting and last but not least @craftycop your support and encouragement throughout this process has been beyond amazing!! 😙😙😙😙 More pictures to come as this quilt will be making a journey to the crafting retreat where I started piecing blocks for it.
Today was finally the day I could photograph this finished #bluerkblock quilt. It has been an honor to make this quilt. Being pregnant, I tried to not think of its destiny, because it would make me way too emotional. Instead, I tried to focus on the love and support that went into each block. As I pieced the top and ironed the finished product, I could smell the “house smell” of each maker from each block. It was touching to think of each individual maker and their concern, support, and love to go to the trouble to make a block to two. I love finding pockets of good in the world. This project is definitely a pocket of good, as well as all the helping hands that have made it possible.
When your all important desk top needle threader breaks and you're lost (aka blind) without it you make a flying trip to Joann. When at said store you have to pick up one of your all-time favorite quilt mags. When you come home you need to get the binding finished on the #bluerkblocks quilt so you can sit back and look at all the pretties in said magazine.
Mixed emotions as I finished the binding on this #bluerkblocks . It will be packaged carefully and mailed off to Jessica @craftycop this week. I know it’s not realistic to hope that this quilt will stay in the basement and never be gifted. The reality is that someday, somewhere a grieving family will receive this quilt in memory and honor of their loved one. It breaks my heart. I do hope that whoever receives it will feel the caring, love, honor and respect that went into each and every stitch. That they will know that the hands of so many strangers from all over the country made this quilt with them in mind, and more than likely shed some tears. Thank you to everyone involved in this project in whatever way, especially to those who made the blocks in this quilt...I thought about you as I put it together. Huge thanks to Gene, husband of @debtaylor112280, owner of @sewmuchmorefabrics for your wonderful quilting! Last, but certainly not least, thank you Jessica for your devotion to this beautiful project and for your own service to your community! You truly are an inspiration and lovely example of pure kindness. 💙💙💙
