Meet this week's phuture Dr. Isom Kelly! #FeatSciFriday 🔬
A second-year graduate student in Dr. Craig Duvall's lab who's pioneering the research that we shared this week
Besides his main thesis work, Isom is also working in collaboration with the Caskey lab at Vanderbilt to make theranostic porous silicon nanoparticles capable of producing an ultrasound signal in vivo, deliver chemotherapeutic drugs, and work as a thermotherapeutic
When he's not in the lab, he enjoys playing Starcraft II, is in a band with the chair of the BME department, and does freelance photography @urban_shutters 📷

This is for all the nights without sleep. This is for all the times that I struggled. This is for all the times that I doubted myself and wanted to give up. Thank You God for pushing me to never give in and to always stay motivated! Shoutout to my family and all my loved ones for every prayer over the years. After 4 years in Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University, where numbers are low for African American men like myself, I’ve been able to maintain a high GPA and accomplish so many great things. So excited to announce that I’ll be graduating from the Bagley College of Engineering at MSU, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering! Commencement Ceremony will be held on May 4th at 3:00pm. Also, I’d like to announce that I’ve accepted a full time offer as a Software Engineer Associate with Lockheed Martin Corporation in Fort Worth, TX! Even after being told “no” by a few companies, God still blessed me with something much greater. There’s no limit to the amount of things that God can do for you, just as long as you keep the faith! 🙏🏾🎓💰 #bagsecured#blessed#blackexcellence#blackengineers#blackboyjoy#onwardandupward#kbalphas#phlyalphas#watchtheyard#graduation#hailstate 📷: @chauncey.mangum
Introducing our 2018-2019 NSBE PDC Vice Chair Terrence Brown!
He is a Assistant Project Manager at Walker Engineering Inc. and has been involved in NSBE for almost 15 years!
Why does he love NSBE?: “I love the mission..”
Interesting fact about Terrence: “I have driven from the East Coast to the West during the summer of 2008 when gas was $4.50/gal. Starting from NC going to Los Angeles took me roughly 2600 miles. Making stops in New Orleans, Houston, El Paso, and Phoenix In my 1997 Forerunner making it my most expensive road trip ever!”
Sooooo...mini-me has her interview for STEM Academy today. STEM Academy is a rigorous school within the main high school where students will take engineering classes, graduate with at least one industry certification, and enter college with at least 9 engineering college credits. This program will challenge her but I know that she's more than capable of making it through successfully. As a mom who is more creative and right-brained than STEM-oriented, I'm nervous and anxious. If she makes it through and needs help with homework, Imma need to call on y'all. Lawd!!😣😣😣 But please send her positive energy, prayers, and good thoughts that she's accepted.
Also, I would love to find a black, female, engineer to be her mentor. If you know of someone or of an organization, please let me know.
Thank you for your help.🤗
Whether you know it or not, you are a part of my village.❤ #ittakesavillage#community#stemeducation#girlsinstem#blackengineers#girlsinengineering#womeninengineering
