The air is buzzing with the flap of bird wings and birdsong. I caught the first scent of mountain lupine in the canyon floating through the pungent balsamroot this morning and thought it impossible until I saw a handful of purple flowers on a sun-drenched slope. It is one of my favorite scents in all the land. I saw a first bumblebee bumbling by the pond as I was crouched down, my eyes following the graceful curve of the deer’s spine, laid bare all winter, now disappearing into the spring grass like a snake, death into life. I was looking for this yellow-rumped warbler lady and her yellow-rumped hubby! In constant tandem motion I can barely catch a glimpse of this sweet pair. But for this brief second. ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟
Last weekend, I spent a couple hours each morning at the pond behind the hot springs in Crane. There were a half dozen American Avocets (Recurvirostra americana) there and I was able to get very close to them. What a bird! #americanavocet#crystalcranehotsprings
The Goldfinch are here and they love their Nyjer! 🐤 They are among the strictest vegetarians 🌱 in the bird world, feeding on a diet consisting almost exclusively of seeds. Video of them happily enjoying our Nyjer seed and mesh feeder!
