Just a nice clean shot of an immature White-crowned Sparrow. Their crown stripes change from brown and tan to black and white as they go from immature plumage to definitive adult plumage. Apparently they need to make this plumage transition before they migrate north for the breeding season, so this guy in Carrizo Plain (near Bakersfield) seemed a little late on the game. I have not heard a White-crowned singing in our condo complex for a while so I am guessing they have already migrated from south Orange County.
.............. 'On The Wing' (4)
This is the fourth in a series of images I took at a presentation by Jane Kelly of 'On the Wing' done at the HQ center of Parker River NWR.
Jane Kelly is an amazing individual and an accomplished presenter full of interesting knowledge of the Avian world.
I highly recommend you check out one of her shows where she presents to you, up close and personal some of her educational birds... birds that were injured, and nursed back to health, but their injuries prevent them from being returned to nature. Instead, they become Avian Ambassadors for their species, A.K.A. Educational Birds.
Another enjoyable and heartwarming event is a Raptor Release, when Jane returns yet another rehabilitated bird back into the wild!
I promise you will thoroughly enjoy your time... make sure you bring your camera!
*** If you wish to make a donation to hep Jane out with the many expenses involved with the care of these animals, contact myself or Jane directly via PM to find out how.
***'On the Wing' is currently working on applying for their 401-C Non-profit Tax-exempt Status and hope to have it soon. Their needs are now however, so please consider making a contribution to this wonderful cause.

The panda bears of the tern world. These two were some of hundreds with Common Terns also mixed in. Laying flat on the beach photographing shorebirds and terns is definitely one way I can kill time so quickly. 🌊

Quetzal cabecidorado hembra
Golden headed quetzal
With her, this madness began, with a female quetzal at The Farallones de Cali national park. It was my first photo of a spectacular bird ..... 5 years later I finally managed to improve that photo in one of my favorite places to watch birds: Finca Alejandría
