This is the angle of my body I hate the most. This is my first time photographing it during this journey (and maybe ever in my life). I’m still big. I’m still fat. But damn I’m a lot healthier than I used to be and I’m definitely smaller. Like I’ve always said, this is not so much about the weight for me, but for my healthy. And with heart disease in my family, my body will be healthier if it’s not carrying the extra pounds. Like this shirt used to be a daily shirt I wore with jeans and now it’s baggy af. Which is great! But also it feels weird sometimes. I was comfortable in my fat. I felt hot and attractive in my fat. Sometimes I take pictures now and I don’t know if I like my thinner face. I know it’s still new (and getting smaller every day tbh), and I know I’ll love it eventually. But sometimes I honestly get a little uncomfortable with this whole process. I never hated myself. I never felt ugly. I have always loved 100% all of me. And it’s scary to leave behind that confidence and comfortableness. For a body that I have no idea if I’ll like, because I’ve never been thin. I have no reference.

I’m back! I took a really long social media hiatus due to several different reasons. Life sometimes isn’t a pretty instagram page... 1️⃣ We have been in the midst of a kitchen remodel which has been a challenge. We have been without a kitchen for about 6 weeks and cooking is one of my happy places. I’m caught between feeling like a complete ungrateful brat and really wanting the comfort of my routine and kitchen back. Not to mention construction is stressful and never goes exactly as planned, my inner control freak is very very tired. *insert serenity prayer* Also that means I haven’t been cooking, which means no weeknight dinner pics have happened.

2️⃣ Burn out is real. I love what I do and feel really passionate about it, which at times can kick me in the butt. I have felt tired, uninspired, and overworked. I eliminated anything extra (like Insta) for a little breather.

3️⃣ I have had a couple situations in the past couple month dealing with work that have made me feel all sorts of feelings - anger, sadness, fear, & much more. I stand firm in my experience as an eating disorder professional and pride myself on giving my all in helping my patients. I believe everyone deserves freedom from disordered behaviors and beliefs. Feeling misunderstood is always really tough on me. 
4️⃣ Can we seriously stop with this idea that RDs are secondary disciplines in the treatment of eating disorders?? All disciplines are needed. I can’t do what I do without therapists and psychiatrists and everyone else. Dietitians do wayyyyy more than you think we do...I do way more than discuss exchanges or tell people to eat more food. If it was that easy my job wouldn’t exist and neither would eating disorders. Why we do what we do with or without food is just as important as discussing what we eat. The relationship a patient has with food is complex and not just about meal plans. 
5️⃣ Lastly, life has felt rushed and on a loop. I needed to disconnect from media, slow down, and do nothing. Part of that meant not feeling the need to post a day to day update. 
So there it is, real & raw. I hope that my insta helps someone in some way because at my core I do what I do to help others.

Talking about caloric intake on social media. 
If you're someone who follows a lot of fitness accounts on SM, you've probably noticed people like to discuss their caloric intake. 
I mean, obviously, as we know that calories are responsible for our changes in mass. 
Anyways, I want to remind everyone that absolutely nothing you see/hear on social media, in regards to a specific caloric intake, should be then applied to yourself.

Okay, that was confusing, let me try that again. 
When you see somebody post their caloric intake, eating the same amount will not guarantee you the same, or even remotely similar results. 
You see people posting that they eat "X" calories a day, and comments are "wow, I wish I had a super metabolism like you!" Or "damn, you're so lucky!" On the other end of the spectrum: When somebody posts that they're eating "Y" calories a day, and comments are "wow girl, you really need to up those calories, I eat that much for breakfast." Or "eating that little is so unhealthy." Don't get me wrong, there is definitely such a thing as high calories(in relation to your bodyweight/composition/activity level/etc), and definitely such a thing as calories that are too low(in relation to your bodyweight/composition/activity level/etc), but over social media, you simply have no idea.

Even if someone is the exact same height, weight, gym routine, and eye colour, you simply cannot pass judgement on their caloric intake. 
For 1, even though you're the same weight, you may be different compositions. 
For 2, you have absolutely NO idea what that persons day to day activity is! Maybe their calories look high, but they actually work a manual labour job and their caloric expenditure is insane! Or maybe they walk their dog for an hour everyday, and go for morning runs you don't know about. Their calories could actually be...low, for their bodyweight/composition/activity level/etc.

Maybe their calories appear low to you, but they actually sit in a desk for 10 hours a day. Maybe they have absolutely no cardio in their workout regimen. Maybe their calories are actually...high, for their bodyweight/composition/activity level/etc.

Day 31/105.

Almost 1/3 of the way done to my first goal of being consistent for 105 days. It's only Wednesday and I've already ridden the struggle bus more times than I can count this week. No matter what the scale says, I continue to focus on all of the non-scale victories to be proud of:

✔️I'm making consistent progress in my cardiovascular strength. For those of you who don't already know, the program I'm doing focuses on "maxing out". The workouts are only 30 minutes and the goal is to push yourself until you can't go any longer and HAVE to take a break (max out). You write down your time and then finish the workout the best you can. Today's workout was called Sweat Intervals and last week, I maxed out at 6:26 and today I maxed out at 7:50! And from the looks of my shirt, I think I've proven how this workout was given its name.
✔️My clothes are getting looser and looser.
✔️I have been consistent with my two daily, non-negotiable goals (workout + superfoods) for  31 consecutive days!
✔️I've consistently pushed through all of the mental fog (lack of sleep) and excuses (it's my birthday, it's the weekend) and the emotions (I don't feel like it) and still finished what I started by pushing play and sweating 30 minutes/day, 5 days a week.
✔️I canceled my pity party, pulled myself together, and took compete ownership over everything that has happened in my life and all the decisions I've made to get my body to this point and what I have to do to get beyond this point.

When the kids made fun of me, I deflected and told them my goal was to be fatter than Santa by Christmas-this way they wouldn’t question what or how much I was eating because that was my intention, right? This is my first memory of making excuses for my #compulsiveeating. Today I panicked. It’s only day 2 and for a moment, this seems insurmountable. I wish I could tell you all the physical changes that are happening with me.  Clothes are fitting better, rings are looser, my veins are more pronounced, my upper body finally looks like I workout (ish). Have I lost any pounds on the scale?? Hahahahaha fuck no.  Does this make my already messed up head even more fucked up? Yes. - see I suffer from an eating disorder.  I binge, it started out as “cheat meals” then that turned it the 80/20 rule which turned into “I’ll just work it off tomorrow” and we all know what tomorrow means.  Once I let my pig squeal I go on auto pilot and I won’t stop eating.  Have I purged? Yes.  Have I punished my body and gone on less than a 1000 calories per day.  Yes.  Did it work.  Nope. And I’m not healed or cured.  Heck I’m only 6 days clean of a binge.  But maybe just maybe if I keep my workout routine (2-3 days of weights, 2-3 days of running, Pilates/ yoga and 1 day off) and if I don’t binge. Maybe my physical changes will show to everyone else. I have a little secret that I have known for a little bit and I almost can tear up just thinking about it!!!! I know I have talked a lot about my struggles with emotional eating and binge eating. The time is finally here for a nutrition program truly based on mindset! A program where us bingers can have our cake and eat it too!!! When completing 80 day obsession, I didn’t feel proud. I completed the workouts, but my nutrition was all over the place. I started telling myself I needed to do this and this and this,because that wasn’t working. (It also led me to eating an entire pizza after the program was over. 😒). When we stress ourselves out over counting points, counting macros, counting carbs or counting containers, that is emotional eating. When we start something and give up 2 weeks later that is emotional eating! I have been there, I am still there and when I say I have done it all, I mean it! This program is going to allow us to shift our mindset, so we just eat and we lose weight! I have been watching so many training videos over this program that I truly believe this is going to change a lot of lives. And lastly, please know you are not alone in this journey. All the food! 🌮🍹 I will ALWAYS be a foodie, and yes 💁 I still eat chocolate every night 🍫 and will always participate in taco Tuesday 😅 but heres the difference! I don't eat the whole bar, its dark chocolate and I have one piece. I have veggie tacos and a salad and like ONE DRINK a week. I work out 6 days a week because I have the support of an accountability group.

Did you know that your binge eating/compulsive eating is a brain wiring problem and it's actually NOT from emotional issues or a poor diet?  You see, your brain is now been programmed to binge due to conditioning (habit and survival instincts) The only reason why you binge is that you have that compelling urge too. The urge is any thought, emotion or sensation that encourages you to eat those cookies and chocolates.  You will feel it as a physiology response.

To stop those binge urges you must KNOW and USE the right process that prune away those urges in your brain, body and mind. This will take 2-3 hours of work a day but eventually, those urges will stop and you will be binge free. .

Only then can you start to go deeper and work on the fear of change, shame, guilt, self-disgust, hatred and control.

The biggest mistake I see people make when they stop binge eating is they work on the emotions first which is dangerous because depending on how ingrained the habit is,  will trigger more binge eating. I have seen it for my self and others. This is because your brain and body are already in survival mode.

You need to get the body to feel safe and prune away the urges first. I am not talking about talk therapy I am talking about deep subconscious prunning. .
I know change can be scary especially when you know that binge eating is ruining your life. I know you may think you don't want to get better, or you don't want to waste time and money on actually doing the work but let me tell you one thing.

I wasted 20 years of my life avoiding doing the work and actually stepping up. I lost some precious years of my life. I missed out on family connections, birthdays, travel experiences, partners, money, time and friends that I can't get back. But most of all it stole from me my connection with my soul. My connection with God. Don't waste any more time.

And if your mind is saying I don't want to change. What I want to say if you do want to change. Your higher self-does. It is your fear that is telling you, you don't want to. Its scared. Embrace it with love and take the leap of faith and change.

Geez had two bad/stressful things happen today and I was going to binge on Cheeze Its.

I found a 35 cal baggie of carrots that were mine in the work fridge and told myself to eat the F out of them. I was like you go ahead and binge all you want on these carrots! EAT THEM ALL!

Have you ever binged on carrots? I highly suggest it. For 35 cal I could've eaten every single one guilt free. I feel better and there are some soggy ones left.

Both are equally bone chilling thoughts to me and I don’t wish this upon any human being. •

We often forget that we spend so much time living our life, intending on doing specific tasks on attaining our goals in fitness, our careers, travel, and relationships. •

But why... why... don’t we act on those intentions. I’ve personally had frequent intentions to continually drive myself to achieve one thing or the other but I either never come around to doing it, or  I FAIL! 🤷‍♀️ 🤷🏼‍♂️ The truth is we know that we need to hold ourselves accountable and at times having someone there to help us do that, is all that is necessary to achieve the true success we seek. •

I’ve come to the realization that I’m an overachiever and my prime focus is to be an optimal performer in all areas of life. So I’ve honed in on my strengths, created friendships, sought out mentorships, and am looking to develop my weaknesses. •

We all need support, mentorship, or coaching in different parts of our lives, the key is to seek out and look for help, to establish an understanding and the independence to effectively become what we strive for. •

Unfortunately, multitasking makes things difficult and sometimes we need another human being to keep us focused, on track, and accountable to our own goals. •

I started this journey two years ago because I was so tired of only feeling okay in leggings and a huge sweater. I was tired of only getting dressed up to go to Church. But it turned into a melt down because nothing fit and I didn’t like anything I put on, so it was leggings and a sweater again. I would just wear yoga pants, sweatshirts, T-shirts or running shorts because it’s what a I was the most comfortable in. 
I was done with summer sneaking up on me and feeling defeated when it got here. I needed something long term, I needed a lifestyle change. I found that and I’m forever grateful.  That’s only half of what this fitness journey has brought me. It’s taught me how to deal with my anxiety. Working out and eating healthy help keeps my mind clear. The mental shift I’ve found since starting this is exactly what I needed. I know I can do hard things. I’ve learned to become disciplined, when there’s no motivation. 
But the last thing I’ve gained from this is the community!!! I have over 20 girls in my group, we show up and motivate each other. They’re my friends. I work with over 200 other women in this coaching biz. I’ve never been surrounded with like minded women. They have passion for the same things I do, fitness, positivity, and helping others. They want to help me succeed in anyway they can. 
I’ve gained all of this just by saying YES to an opportunity. I had no idea what I was getting into but it felt good and I needed something. I took a chance and I’m so thankful I did.

Many of us think (& want) #eatingdisorderrecovery to be all about obtaining a healthy relationship with food while still restricting (maybe restricting less than before, we convince ourselves), or still looking a certain way, or losing weight from #bingeeating. Recovery doesn't often end up (or happen) like we want it to. It's not always the picture-perfect comeback story that we may conjure in our minds.

Often eating disorder recovery may mean gaining some weight. This is not a bad thing, but I know many people pull out of recovery when they see this physical change. They start recovery, freak out, and turn back.

It scares them. It’s uncomfortable. And I get it. I turned back many times. I resisted recovery when I thought it threatened my running career.

It is possible to have a lean body & a healthy relationship with food if that is where your body would like to stay effortlessly & do so with all hormones functioning properly. But I believe you really have to get to the other side before you can possibly get to this point. It’s also not even something you need or will want to strive for, anyway. We don't need those things to be or feel successful, or even to feel better about ourselves.

I found my greatest happiness at my highest weight, & without running as fast. In fact, I was not running at all. But the love I had for myself—who I realized I was outside of running & my eating disorder—was worth living for, & worth celebrating.

Proper off the wagon 🤦🏼‍♀️ been a carb monster since Sunday and thanks to being female I’ve taken a belly flop into the chocolate hamper. Had loads of wine tonight, dinner AND dessert and I get weighed in Friday! Literally rolling around clearly not giving a shit! I did say I didn’t expect much for April, fuck was I right. But hey... Clean slate, back to bounce tomorrow after a class cancellation tonight and hoping whatever damage is done Friday can be reversed next week. .
BUT.... on a positive note, never did I imagine I’d be able to take part in a 4hour @bouncefitbody event by April. So yeah, I’ve binged a bit but fuck it I kicked ARSE on Sunday. 2017 Hannah couldn’t have done that! Celebrate your positives! .

Here’s to May! (Ignoring the fact it’s my mums, my best mates, my nieces, my friend and my own birthdays...) .

Well today at work was a situation where the old me would’ve freaked TF out

Basically it was a day for a shit ton of food & desserts

In the past, the thought of straying away from my “routine” would’ve caused me MAJOR food anxiety

I would tell myself that I wasn’t allowed to have ANY of it, when in reality once I was actually in that situation, there was no way I’d be able to control myself
-
(Again these habits were due to such a restrictive lifestyle)

Afterwards I would feel like absolute crap, have crazy food guilt, & tell myself I basically wasn’t going to eat the next day to “make up for it”🤦🏼‍♀️

So how did I actually react to this situation NOW?

Well, since I’m FINALLY in a place where I’m no longer restricting myself of anything, not only did I not feel any of those old emotions, but I simply prepared myself!

I made a green protein shake to drink before I had anything else so that I would already be decently full (also can help with balancing blood sugar levels especially if you’re going to have sugar)
-
& then I chose foods that I TRULY wanted. Not just because they were there to eat
-
The outcome?
I didn’t feel overly stuffed, I ate until I was satisfied, & I felt totally FINE🙌🏻

Maybe slightly lethargic because I normally don’t eat dairy, meat, or too much sugar, but ya get the point🙃

La colazione è servita 🥞 non mi sono ancora fermata un secondo oggi! Una bella giornata tra camminate, cibo🍞, amiche, shopping, di nuovo cibo 🍿e di nuovo camminate. Un giorno in cui ho mangiato fuori dalle regole e che per me è sempre folle paura. Quando ci sono queste giornate nella mia testa scatta sempre 'o tutto o niente' e la maggior parte questo sfocia in abbuffate poi compensate con vomito. Da un po' a questa parte sto provando a non vedere i pasti liberi come scusa per potersi abbuffare e sto provando a farne qualcuno senza dover strafare. È difficilissimo: è difficile controllare quel momento e non abbuffarsi, come è difficile controllare  ciò che succede se accetti di mangiare qualcosa di meno sano senza abbuffarti e vomitare. Oggi infatti non è stato semplice: Nella mia testa spesso ho pensato di mangiare senza pensieri che tanto poi avrei vomitato . Poi ho pensato bene al mio umore e al fatto che se questa sera mi abbuffo e vomito, domani quasi sicuramente e riaccadrà. Ho camminato tanto, non mi sembra abbastanza ma Sono riuscita a non farlo, ora sono nel letto, con mille preoccupazioni sul mio corpo,  con vari sensi di colpa. Ma sono nel letto ed ho vinto io.
