Connecting with Bulgarian culture, dancing Xopo (hope I wrote it correctly).
Bulgaria is an interesting country and Sofia definitely a beautiful city. If you are planning to come over, take into consideration the following:. 1.- Bulgarians don’t speak English in general, so be patient and try to get some words in order to help yourself.
2.- This is a perfect place for meat lovers. Lots of meat and very cheap food!. 3.- take a “free tour sofia” those kids are local, they speak good English, and also Spanish, very informative tour and specially they take you to the main places in Sofia. Also they give good recommendations and coupons for food and bars. Highly recommended.
4.- Take a Culture Tour as well, with the same guys. It cost only 11 euros and you get to taste good traditional food and interesting drinks from Bulgaria. It is also good to get to know deeper the origin of their culture.
5.- be careful with pickpockets. We didn’t have any bad experiences but we were told from locals to be careful.
6.- Bulgarians are not the most polite drivers, so be very careful when you cross the street ;) .
7.- Sofia is in general not such a big city, but it has closed by, some nice places to go by car, we couldn’t because a matter of time, but you should definitely try.
8.- Bulgarian religion is mainly Orthodox, therefore they don’t celebrate Easter on the same date as Catholics but a week after. I would say it’s a very religious country.
What I liked the most was the “square of tolerance” I wish all places in the world would have one!! (You need to get the tour for deeply information, too long to write it down.
In general cheap city, has a lot of interesting story, and very beautiful. Highly recommended for a long weekend, family trip or weekend scape ❤️.
