Sigh. So many great memories in this gorgeous Tova-Celine silk bias slipdress. Sure, I could easily make one just like it, but not that rad pastel camo print. I bought it when I lived in NYC in the 90’s. Probably even before I went to work for @Betsey as all my bias slipdresses came from her after that. I probably bought it at @bergdorfs with money i didn’t have. But it was the perfect NYC summer dress. After I moved to LA, where nobody wears dresses, especially moto-commuters like me, it became my favorite nightgown. And now the bum is seriously worn thin. I hate to throw it away, even knowing it’s 100% silk and can be responsibly recycled. But let it go, I must. Perhaps to make room for something better... What I don’t get is how the kids are claiming to be “into 90’s style” but there aren’t any bias slipdresses out there! Even #boho chic lines are doing silks like this on straight grain! So lame. At @circularfashiongames one of the teams came up with a brilliant app idea where you could include the stories of clothes you were willing to share. Then each new wearer could add their stories... #biascut#fashion
awkwardly modeling this weeks’ selfish sewing ( just a joke, it’s more like self care sewing)... a handkerchief linen bias cut maxi dress that I lined with more linen( Nico pattern and fabric from @fabricsstorecom ) and a self drafted knit kimono robe... I used a mix of finishing techniques including French seams, handsewn bias edging and a whole lot of serging because I like the way it made the hem of the dress wavy and floaty and kept the edges of the robe not bulky #dressmaking#selfishsewing#biascut#linen#sewingforme#memade
I read some about Madeleine Vionnet last night in preparation for my 1920s project - which I have dubbed Madeleine in her honor, #myfirstmadeleine . I had never even heard of her until last night, but I think I’m in love 😍. The dress pictured is an extant garment from 1932. In my current project, I will be attempting to pay homage to some of her earlier dressmaking revelations: cutting on the crosswise grain, handkerchief hems, asymmetry - which came before her groundbreaking presentation of entire frocks cut on the bias, revealing the scandalously unencumbered feminine form beneath. b. 1876 - d. 1975, the changes to fashion she witnessed, and guided...😧 staggering. #1920sfashion#1930sfashion#madeleinevionnet#biascut#historicalfashion#sewing#goals#obsessed

I'm just managing to keep this dress up! She's so stunning though, just needs a woman taller and more voluptuous than me. I can see Carolyn Bessett wearing this on JFK Junior's arm. If dress code is effortless, chic 90's supermodel and you're a size 10-12 and over 5"7....then Ally here is your dress ;-). You can see the gorgeous knotted back in a previous post. This soft metallic gold embossed strappy 90's floor length bias cut dress is perfect if you wanna be equal parts siren to the cool kid; she's sexily, effortlessly both and has plenty of sass; in that Monica Bellucci kinda way that men with taste salivate over (tastefully of course). She's out of control gorgeous; a bit tricky for me to show off as she needs someone taller and curvier than me, but you get the gist. Big hair was essential to proceedings. She's slinky yet not unflattering since the rayon drapes and falls; doesn't cling. The straps are gorgeous too. She has a discreet zip in the back and originates from NYC. She's fresh from the dry cleaner, in mint condition and $540 at Dolly. #vintage#vintagedress#slinky#90 's #carolynbesette#jfk#thesupermodels#strappy#golddress#strappyback#embossed#rayon#beautiful#biascut#vintagegolddress#dkny#ck#naomicampbell#sexydress#backless#christybrinkley#backless
rare and pristine #1920s early #1930s#alenconlace#flapper dress w/ large #freshwaterpearl belt buckle (!) 🍃 From my secret stash- this dress is #biascut and has a beautiful elegantly jagged, #whitewitch flower petal hem. (I love the way this falls and moves on the body - so ethereal and sexy ) This is a #museumdeaccession and in amazing condition. It will work well on multiple body types/sizes from ladies size xsmall to medium - (due to the flapper shift styling) I have shown it ‘traditionally’ w/ a cream slip, but think of all your styling options w/ color(s)/statement lingerie👌🐰🍡 DM to purchase -A well preserved lace piece like this is a 💥must 💥 for any serious vintage collection 🌿🌿🌿
