One Class at a Time is a joint effort between KESQ News Channel 3 and Walter Clark Legal Group to help fulfill needs of area schools in the Coachella Valley. The campaign will award $5,000 each school year by identifying and funding applications for ten $500 classroom projects throughout the Coachella Valley. Schools must be within Coachella Valley School District, Desert Sands Unified School District, or the Palm Springs Unified School District. One Class at a Time grant applications will be chosen on merit criteria. Criteria will be largely based upon imaginative, sustainable ideas that will have a significant impact and ongoing relevance. Nominations will be reviewed monthly by a committee represented by News Channel 3, One Class at a Time sponsors and area educators. This committee will also select the ten winning nominations throughout the school year.
School teachers, administrators and the general public are encouraged to nominate a classroom by completing the nomination form on the @kesq_news_channel_3 website.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has previously warned consumers against using kratom, an herbal supplement marketed as an alternative to opioids. The FDA has reported at least 36 deaths linked to the supplement, which can cause seizures and liver damage. A new warning now links kratom to a Salmonella outbreak.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the multistate outbreak has been traced to the supplements, which are made from a plant. The CDC says the infection, began spreading in October and has affected 20 states so far. Three people in California have reportedly been affected. Eleven people across the country have been hospitalized, and one has died. Consumers are urged not to use kratom in any form to avoid an infection.
