I’m so grateful I got to see a media preview of @ifeelpretty last night! I blogged about what I took away from this movie on www.ashleynewell.me. To sum it up, see the movie and have a conversation about self confidence and self perception. It’s important and so are you! Also, swipe to see my selfie with @katiewakeupcall who I looooooved meeting last night! Thank you for having me!
It’s THURSDAYYYYY!!! One more day til the weekend... come on out tomorrow to Emerald City Coffee at 8pm. I usually have my first dates at a coffee shop... so would this count as our first date? 😂 Also, figured posing with a tropical plant will hopefully bring some tropical temps!! #fellinloveinacoffeeshop#tropicalvibes
Two years ago last week, I played my last shows with ConFunkShun in Japan. It was a fun 13 year ride and I’m grateful. I bought this shirt on my way home. It reflects the warrior in me and the Samurai, I think, represents the warrior in all of us. It’s been 16 years since I worked a 9-5 job. I never knew where that would lead, the day I left my last job. I knew I had to go tho...
Since then the ride has been amazing. I’ve traveled all around the world and the USA playing music and getting paid to do it. I’ve met some of the most amazing and accomplished people, many of whom helped me along the way. I’ve learned from all of them in one way or another. I never thought I’d be in a group whose music I grew up listening to on the radio, or good friends with Grammy winners, or be on a Grammy nominated album, or start my own record label, or be a singer, or produce award winning music and the whole film biz thing now...Look ma I’m on TV! 😂❤️ ...who knew? Maybe I did, deep down. I know my mom did. God bless her for telling me, when I talked to her that day on the porch 16 years ago about quitting my job, “if you feel that strongly about it, you should go for it”.
I’m very grateful to all the people I’ve encountered, the great and the not so great, over the years. I’m grateful every freakin’ day! ❤️🙏🏼
I hope your today is filled with the most amazing moments and you are able to recognize each one and savor them all and they propel you into greater things tomorrow! #beinspired#noregrets
So much there, that this episode begins to touch on. Chinese American immigrant intergenerational family dynamics, cultural standards and expectations, interracial dating, racism and discrimination within and between racial groups. Hope that we can generate conversation and continue to develop the arcs for these characters and this story. P.S. If you come out to the Silicon Beach Film Festival on the 26th, we are in the same block as the feature film "The Night I Died" so you'll be getting two very different genres of film with one ticket. #comeoutcomeoutwhereveryouare .

The week in the Bay had its many ups and one down. Being with the band(s), seeing the friends I did, experiencing the great music, was AMAZING! ❤️👊🏼 Someone smashed my rear window while I was at my show in #sanfrancisco ...That was the bad 😔 but it’s all good, nothing stolen just f’d up vandals. It’s good to be back in LA. Oh and I gained 5lbs. 😠🎂🍔🍕🍛🍻🍹🥂🍾🍸🍺🍷🥃🍰🍳 So it’s back to eating healthier and exercising. 🥗🥒🏋🏻♂️🤾🏻♂️🚵🏼♂️🧗🏻♂️
I think this photo of the band, taken by Jon Leon Guerrero, from the show last is so cool. Blyss on Bass, Leah Tysse on Mic, Rich Aguon on Drums, Me and Ben Reyes on Keys. D. Edward Live at the Hotel Utah #sanfrancisco
I really love Caffe 817 and my old hood. I love LA too but I’ve spend just about all my life here in #thetown and it’s good to be back even just for a moment. I’m in town playing a show tonight at the Hotel Utah in #sanfrancisco 8-845p. Come out and hang!
I may look disapproving in this pic... but I would fully approve of you checking out these future shows!!! 🌮 SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:: TACO TAKEOVER IS TAKING OVER SHAKERS ON CLARK ON APRIL 24th!!!!! 🌮 📸: @lukru
Wow! I haven’t seen the man to the far left since I was a child. He was good friends with my mom and step dad. George Lee. He made all of Bruce Lee’s equipment. All of it. Every weapon you see in his movies, every punching bag you see in pictures of Bruce at home, everything. He was a machinist in Richmond CA and later became known as “The Equipment Manager” by Bruce Lee fans. He used to come over to our house and hang out with my parents and always spent time with me talking about Bruce. Peaceful Journey Allen Joe. I believe that is Jimmy Lee on the far right #Repost @brucelee with @get_repost
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Allen. He was a kind, gracious, uplifting and beautiful soul. His love was palpable, and we will miss him. Rest In Peace, Uncle Allen, and say hi to my dad and brother. I’m sure they were there waiting for you with open arms. With all our love - the Lee Family

“I grew up in the south side of Chicago so I was pretty much the only Asian. It was pretty much only Black, White or Hispanic. I went through a lot of racism and prejudice. But it’s ok. I lived and I’m alright.
Most people would come up to me and say ‘Hey, what are you? Chinese or Japanese?’ And I’m like ‘Korean’ ‘Korean? What the fuck is that?’ And then they’d pull at their eyes to make them small. And it was worse than that growing up. So now with everything that’s going on it doesn’t bother me. I just think ‘Ehh, been there, done that’. It just made me stronger.”
