#In her own words...I am Coralie Bickford-Smith and here is a bit about myself:
I graduated from Reading University after studying Typography and Graphic Communication. I currently work in-house at Penguin Books. Amazingly my book covers have been recognised by the AIGA (NY) and D&AD (UK) and have featured in a numerous international magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, Vogue and The Guardian. The work I did with Penguin Classics on the clothbound series attracted worldwide attention and harks back to the world of Victorian bindings and a golden age of book binding.

I wrote and illustrated my own book The Fox and The Star, which was published by Penguin in August 2015.
My second book The Worm and the Bird was published by Penguin in August 2017.

I have been commissioned by a wide range of clients including The New York Times, Fortnum & Mason, Waterstones and Diageo.

In 2017 I was awarded an Honourary Doctor of Letters by Reading University.

Soho House is all about the people. That’s the idea behind Cities Without Houses, a new type of membership that opens up the Soho House community to people who live in cities where we don’t yet have a club. It’s designed for creative and like-minded people who travel a lot for work and pleasure, but don’t happen to live in a city where there’s currently a Soho House

#Notes2Self - #TeachersRock and #ChildrenAreAmazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Last week, I had the privilege of teaching the years 3, 4, 5 and 6 Pupils AKA Key Stage 2 of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, Dartford during their Art Week.

I was so blessed! I also had so much fun. The children are amazing and I learned from them.

We talked about life in Nigeria, UK, US, Culture, Academics, Art, Success, Failure, Careers, Everything really.

Teachers contributions often get overlooked. In my opinion, they are underpaid, considering the time, effort and value they add to society.

I must confess I underestimated how hard they work. After just 3 hours on Day 1, I went home and crawled into bed.

Miss Smith and Mrs. Innis put together the Art Week with some of the children and went above and beyond! They made traditional Ndebele huts, dolls and Jewelry etc
They performed Bangra Dancing and so many activities with input from other volunteers.
This week the school is having an Art Exhibition to which they have invited their parents showcasing all they learned last week.
I attended yesterday and was shown around by the budding Art Curators and was so inspired by all the children had done that I suggested that they have Art Workshops and teach the adults next time instead!

Global #Leaders should spend time shadowing teachers at work to actually experience their impact on the lives of the future generations.

You cannot make informed decisions about pay, resources, curriculum etc otherwise

Being sold downriver meant you would be facing conditions even more brutal than usual. James Baldwin discussed the question of what happens to the person committing such cruelties. What happens to their lives? "Sold Down the River", 50 x 66 #oiloncanvas . This piece is very close to being completed. The photo is dark. Based on the phrase, which was used by the enslaved in earlier times. Being sold downriver meant you would be facing conditions even more brutal than usual. James Baldwin discussed the question of what happens to the person committing such cruelties. What happens to their lives? Do they not sell themselves down the river, as well, by their brutality against another?#blacklivesmatter  #blackhistory  #studio  #art  #america #arthistory  #beautyinturmoil  #blackpantherparty  #malcomx  #jamesbaldwin  #gallery  #artunites  #instaart  # contemporaryart

You’ll be able to enter the dome thru the ears and look out the plexiglass 👀, which will be painted using the layered technique. (Lemme say that I can’t wait to see these GIANT plexiglass eyes!) A surprise element will be the one way mirror for the pupils, which should be really fun. ❤️
*
This piece will be made using recycled wood, so dumpster shopping will begin shortly😃

Going through all the “serious”, dark and heavy art works at ARCO Madrid last month I came across a fresh, bright and screaming bubblegum-colored piece that immediately grabbed my attention. I am a woman. I am an artist. I am a curator. I am wild. I am fire. I am history. I am curvy. I am culture. I am your sister. I am poetry. I mentally signed under it and walked forward with a bigger smile, enhanced confidence and pride of being a woman. To my happy surprise I met the author of that art work at @emergentorremolinos, the artists residency in Torremolinos. Thank you @fernandobayona for this fantastic initiative and possibility to meet all these talented, passionate and beautiful people like Verónica Ruth Frías. #artunites #smallartworld #coincidence? #spanishartist #femaleartist #iamawoman #veronicaruthfrias #Iamartist #future #happy #beca #artresidency #Spain

LeWitt received a BFA from Syracuse University in 1949... In 1953, he moved to New York City, where he studied at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School (now the School of Visual Arts)... In 1960, he took an entry-level job at the Museum of Modern Art, where he met Dan Flavin, Robert Ryman, Lucy Lippard and Robert Mangold

Sol LeWitt executed his first wall drawing in 1968 at Paula Cooper Gallery in New York.

Until 2033, LeWitt’s wall drawings are the subject of a solo exhibition titled Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
