Ready for some Friday story time? 📖
Years ago, when my oldest had just turned two, and my second baby was a newborn, I was in the thick of overwhelmed, young mom-hood. We were living in an apartment (dreaming of AC), and my husband was in the early years of public accounting, keeping him away until late at night, and studying for the CPA exams whenever he wasn't at work. .
I had thought I'd be a good mom before having kids (😂), but it amazed me how just trying to take care of the basic needs of these tiny souls could sap every positive thought about myself, and every ounce of energy I had. I felt like such a failure, that I was "only at number two," and yet I felt totally and completely at my mental, physical, and emotional max. .
One day, I passed by a picture frame on our nightstand, and randomly thought "that would really look so much better if it were black". It was a silly thought, there was a crying baby to nurse and a pbj to make, but I kinda obsessed over the idea, until I finally dragged some newspaper out onto our little patio, and spray painted the dang frame. It was such a small, seemingly silly thing, but I remember the distinct feeling that I had power over my humble surroundings, that I could still be creative, and mostly, that I *needed* to be creative. It felt like I had been drowning, and was finally able to come up for a quick, but deep breath of air. I couldn't start adding painting back in to my days just yet, but small home projects fed that need to create, and those grew over the years, and as my kids got older, my increments of disposable time grew, and now I find myself in a stage where I can plan to give it more of my time. .
My point in writing all this is-- don't compare where you are to where someone else is, and mostly, I believe so strongly that we were given talents and interests to bless our own lives, and the lives of others. The purpose of my feed is not to have you become a painter, but to inspire you to find what brings you joy, what makes you feel like YOU, and make space for it in your days. You'll be so happy you did. 🖌
Headed to beautiful Vermont tomorrow. I am looking forward to finding some time to shoot some personal work this weekend, I’ve packed up 2 cameras, my tripod, film and memory cards, now I should probably pack some clothes for my kids. 🤗 Happy Memorial Day! I wish you all a relaxing weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the work of @denisegasserart! As a mom of a 2 year old and a 7 month old working in the art industry, I can definitely identify with her #artafter project. It's raw, real, true, hilarious- all of the feels. Check it out, and thanks to @thejealouscurator for covering #womenartists 🙌🏻
Lovely #StanleyPark inspired paintings by @denisegasserart on the site (and a peek at her #100dayproject titled #artafter that is hilarious and a very REAL look at being an artist / mother of young children!). More on the site today, link in profile
This was the 4th and last of the surreal landscapes I did when I was trying to make sense of my #PTSD
You will know which paintings are in this group because they all depict the Earth as hollow and treacherous, with open space underfoot. One could misstep and fall into the void at anytime if not extremely careful. This is the state of hypervigilance many #ptsdsufferers live in, trying to reconcile their flashbacks and anxiety with the rest of the world around them.
If you've ever gone through it, then you understand.
Just remember: God heals; so does #cbt and other measures. PTSD is beatable!
My favorite post from @w_a_designs It was a toss up between this a pic of her family (what makes her tick). I selected this one because she is always creating... be it a piece of furniture, jewelry, a photograph... you name it! .

My incredible mom makes beautiful fiber art! I was so proud of her who's past Mother's Day when I got to assist her at her first east coast craft show in Crozet, Virginia! Hopefully she'll come visit me with suitcases full of silk and wool more often now ☺️❤️ check out her beautiful work on her website, www.simplylife.com
The Aftermath of afternoon tummy time! 'Olette loves her teddy bear and her sweet lambie rattle. ♡
I tried to crochet a blanket for her while I was pregnant and then my hands went numb... and I realized I didn't actually know How to crochet... 😑
I got a little disheartened, feeling like I didn't get any of the projects done THAT I wanted to. (Can any other mother relate?! 😂) "But, I got that far!" I kept telling myself...
After she was born, I realized that I Did finish the blankie- it was the perfect size for her lap and even if I don't know what kind of stitches I made, Coco loves studying it. 😍
and that makes my heart sing! I kinda feel like a cool mom sometimes... 😉😅
The excitement of meals was one of the highlights of our days. They loved food. Eating in general and discovering new tastes in particular. Feeding time was always a bundle of laughs…
Some days are better than others, but I try to deal with the reality of each day, rather than wishing for something other. Part of this has been letting go of wishing I could do all the things I’d like to do during this season with my little ones. Right now I’m choosing contentment staying home and when we go out, being thankful for those little adventures 🤗 #100daysofpositiveselftalk#the100dayproject#ihavenoideawhatdayimon
