"Political truth can be mercurial and fragile – never more so than now, in this climate of fake news and alternative facts. Artists, like journalists and activists, need to define the truth and defend it." -@_davidbirkin

I apologise for the sloppiness, but I am posting this in utter frustration and anger. Hundreds of miles away, over 10,000 peaceful protesters marched out to the capital of Armenia in outrage after a corrupt and broken parliament voted Serzh Sargisian, who has played a major role in limiting and violating the rights Armenians, crippling all private and nongovernment businesses, and was elected thanks to bribery, for the THIRD term. The protesters, who were standing outside the capital building, in order to stop the parliament from resuming were attacked by police, and stuffed into vans, and detained, thus infringing on their right to peaceful assembly.
The protests will continue until president Sargisian is impeached, or the government is over thrown, unfortunately many will be hurt in the process, but it absolutely devastates me, to see people harassed by the same body that is meant to protect them.
I know this is totally removed from most of you guys, but I think it's important we all are aware of what others are fighting for around the rest of our world.
Well, congrats on reading this far! And thanks, it feels nice to rant sometimes :) FYI the colors on the background of this are the Armenian flag.
I created “Dissent” as a response to the mob lynchings, the disappearances of people who spoke against those in power, Rohit Vemula’s suicide and the events that transpired in India in 2015-16. Because we must stand up for those whose voices are not heard. I will always use my art as a medium to share, express, question and as a call for action. #monakhancompany#dissent#speakup#unite#strongertogether#danceforacause#artandactivism . ‘We will not go quietly any longer; the Magdalena silence has been shattered, our chins have been lifted to the sky by those who fought on the the front lines, our fists raw from banging at the door. We are mighty and unflinching. We will be silent no more!’ Made by @rachelfallon3840

Don't miss the opportunity to participate in an art project! In conjunction with the Studios of MASS MoCA, the artist Simone Couto proposes a quilt-making workshop with immigrants currently living in the Berkshire County area or visiting, as well as anyone who feels closely connected to another culture besides the American. The traveling quilt will be displayed at the MASS MoCA Open Studios on April 28th (5-7 p.m.). After, the quilt will travel as the artist will continue to add squares while developing this project in other towns.
The workshop aims to provide a safe environment for creativity and making where the artist and participants can share their knowledge and stories about what makes a place feel like home. Finally, we will translate these stories into a collective quilt.
Couto plans to document these conversations as part of her Suspended Beds Installation currently in development in the residency.
For more information on Couto's art practice and works please visit: Simonecouto.com
Active Engagement: —We will look at quilt images of MA historical quilts and contemporary quilts of resistance. —We will talk a bit what home means to each one of us.
—We will go over the materials and DEMO a simple square quilt-making process.
—Each one of us will work on a small square.
American quilts are a living document of the empowerment of Immigrants. "They are the products of their society, influenced by the culture, and the environment of the people who made them. The history of America can be seen in the history of quilts.”

These little people, with big hearts and big minds and even bigger ideas. We've having tons of conversations about injustices we notice globally and in our community. Most importantly, injustices they experience in magazines they look at, books they read, in the hallway and outside in the playground etc. through art of course. I love 'em all. The last image makes my heart especially warm and would make @lupitanyongo smile. #artseducation#artsed#artandactivism
This watercolor on panel just went up in my shop (link in bio) and was inspired by sea life organisms in the Gulf of Mexico in a #natgeo photograph. I am pairing this image with a passage from The Tempest in honor of #nationalpoetrymonth . #williamshakespeare
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell: Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them,—ding-dong, bell.
Fantastic recording session at @davidpstevens studio. And the electric guitar he laid down was siiiiiiick!! Creative fun! Can’t wait for everyone to hear this song...finally!
Oh and peep the magazine spread! This brother is highly skilled, super humble and a legit blessing! But I made him hold up the feature because I think he deserves the recognition. We’ve worked with the same people for 10 years but never together until now. Always heard great things. Big ups to my producer and brother @delldrumz for connecting us today.
