Make sure you scroll though all the photos! This is a fun one!
Today was 'take your kid to work day' in Michigan and I hosted a group of six kiddos at the farm! We first learned about dahlia tubers and the difference between a tuber and a dahlia seed. We then sorted out 450 tubers while checking for quality of each. After that we potted them up in the greenhouse. Finally, we went over tractor safety and everyone got a chance to drive the tractor around while working the implements!
One of the things that is really important to me as I grow this farm is giving back to the community. I hope to one day have more events like this with local kids that have never been on a farm in their life.
Today, only 2% of the population is involved in agriculture. Many kids (and adults for that matter) have no clue where their food, fiber, and flowers come from, let alone how it was raised. Activities like this help expose the next generation to something they have never seen while giving them an appreciation for the work it takes to grow what we all take for granted.
On a side note, thank you everyone for all the kind messages and asking how my dad is doing. He came home from the hospital yesterday and is starting to feel better! Things are going well and our fingers are crossed it keeps up!
Spring is here in all its glory and I’m so excited! I am spending today finishing up the floral order for our first wedding of the season and also prepping and packing for a presentation I am giving tonight for a garden club. Actually 2 garden clubs under 1 roof- so it’s going to be a party! Check out my insta stories for a look behind the scenes into my design process for our wedding and events and also stay tuned for a look into what I will be designing tonight. One clue: #foamfree (Beautiful tulips pictured above were grown by @littlestateflowerco and will be on display in tonight’s presentation)
Playing with greens and texture today, thinking about lesson plans for the design portion of the upcoming workshop. There’s still spots left in our farmer florist workshop. Check out the link in the bio for more details. If you’re new to following the conservatorie allow me to tell you a little about myself. I’ve been working as a floral designer now for the past 11 years. Back when I started florists we’re not as abundant as they are now. No florist wanted to hire me without any experience, so I decided to get certified in floral design. I went to a school in south Florida that was pretty stuck in the designs of yesteryear. The great thing about it is I was able to learn the tried and true techniques of floral arranging. Since then, I’ve adapted and created new ways of doing things. I think that’s one of my favorite parts of design, the problem solving, or creativity aspect. Once the foundations were laid, that’s when the juices start flowing. I worked for several florists that ran the gamut of styles before I found myself in my own shop. If you’re thinking of coming to the workshop and you’ve never designed before, or you’re working your hustle to learn as you go this workshop is for you. If you’ve been designing for years I also feel this workshop is for you. Every designer has a different technique and I can’t wait to share all of mine with you. If you have s y questions about the workshop please let me know.
#Psoriasis . A before and after shot with using our tinctures to ingest, and our topical for the outside. We are not doctors, but we are believers. Would we give all the credit to CBD? No, it takes lifestyle choices, a diet check, and perseverance to keep trying to improve the daily life of a human. But on the real side of things, I think CBD greatly improved my quality of life. Yes, my names Cody Hemmah and I'm the founder of this company. If you personally know me, then you know I am whole heartedly here to really try and help people. This disease is hard to live with no doubt. Posting this photo was hard even, it's embarrassing to have noticeable problems on your skin but I want to personally put it out there that I live with this, and I'm doing better than ever! And that's just the outside, just seeing the remarkable change makes me feel so good knowing my inside is feeling better too, even if I can't see it. There's many things that come along with having this problem, so putting effort into helping the healing process gives me huge hope for a longer happier life with potential less complications from the disease. If you know anyone that is living with this, please have them send us a message and I will give all the details of what I do besides just using our CBD products. I have to give credit where it's deserved though, and before I was using CBD I was struggling hard to keep it under control. So this is my personal testimony, not a marketing campaign, but a real life experience using this product. I hope this gets out to others and they can find something that works for them too. Much love friends and family 🙏 #cbdandpsoriasis#cbd#hempcbd#cbdhemp#cbdisolate#cbdextract#cbdtincture#cbdtopicals#goleta#santabarbara#america#worldhealth#cbdheals#cbdhealth#skincare#hemmahscbd#hemmahs#family#friends#cbdtestimonials#gmofree#americangrown#sustainablefarming#co2#labtestedcbd#tripletestedcbd#seedtoseal#love
Spring has sprung over here 🌿Our specialty daffodils are blooming! We are filling the stand tomorrow with these beauties plus plenty of Anemones. The stand will be stocked at 9AM so you can get your fresh flower fix! #bloomhillflowerstand
The weather has finally warmed up around here! The grass is starting to green up, the magnolia is about to bloom, and I was able to work on my tan while backfilling the high tunnel yesterday! It is so nice that spring FINALLY decided to show up!
Today's dahlia was another fun one we grew last year. Its name is Bristol Fleck. I didn't have quite enough tubers to offer any for sale, but next year I will have loads of them! 📸 by @hsaundersphoto
When work is pretty. 💐
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE flowers and being a florist has been my #dreamjob
I’m so excited for the opportunity to get to work with @therusticbunch and learn all of her pretty ways! She did all of our wedding flowers and has made numerous flower crowns for me and Harlow. Everything she touches is so amazing!
Check out her ig @therusticbunch and sign up for the floral share to always have pretty, fresh blooms in your home (perfect Mother’s Day gift 😉), reach out for your wedding flowers, or if you just need something pretty to make your day better. 🌷
So the farm doesn't have any pretty flowers yet, which means I don't have a lot of images to throw on insta. So I'm just going to fill the feed with pretty wedding photos until daffodil season. 😁. You cool with that? 👰🏼 Photo by @courtneydueppengiesser
It’s bouquet day!!! Floral share bouquets have been dropped off at @betulasbotanica for pickup between 1-5pm today... and there may be a couple extra there for someone to snag ;) more locations are in the works, so if you are thinking of getting a share, stay tuned. There are plenty of weeks ahead to jump in so glad that spring is in the air. Enjoy this beautiful day! #floralshare#locallygrown#locallygrownflowers#slowflowers#americangrown#pagrown#berkscounty
My embroidery project is coming along with one pocket just about done (save for a little American flag in the blank space 🇺🇸) and then it's onto the botanical indigo plant on other pocket that will be embroidered with this fresh indigo dyed vintage silk yarn saved from great grandma's making supplies stash. The yarn used for the text is dyed with avocado seeds from our tree. Hoping I can finish these tonight and wear them for our food waste dye workshop tomorrow- GATHER . EAT. MAKE (link to my website with more info & registration if you'd like to join) & for the remainder of @fash_rev week (& then for years and years to come!) These jeans were dyed with Tennessee grown indigo, (that replaced tobacco crops) by @colorwithlife & the denim is some of the last cloth woven at the famed White Oak @conedenim mill in NC that sadly shut its doors this year. The jeans were made in LA and @luckybrand still has some available if you're in need of a nice vintage cut and well made pair of jeans. I don't buy new clothes often as I'm a dedicated thrifter and I love making do with what I have (and overdyeing so much!) & I love the challenge of making a few new pieces by hand each year to add to my wardrobe, so when I do buy new, it's reserved for something special & considerately made like these jeans. Looking forward to breaking them in soon & also now I'm feeling a new addiction to embroidery coming on. 😊 #handembroidered#naturaldyes#localcolor#naturalindigo#colorwithlife#thedogwoodddyer#naturaldyeing#freshleafindigo#avocadodye#stonycreekcolors#luckybrand#conedenim#madeinla#madeintheusa#madeinamerica#indigo#americangrown#fashionrevolution#whomadeyourclothes
