Long time ago now I got in touch with my esteemed professor #Rissa, who became a real friend of mine, to whom I still look up to. Proud to have the opportunity to listen to her mindful thoughts and moreover to learn from her, I wrote a few honest words about her for her retrospective which started yesterday in the #akademiegalerie in #düsseldorf .

Recent post for @akademiegalerie by #kunstfueruns 👉 #ParadisusVindobonensis 🌱 Anton Hartinger was born in Vienna and studied at the #academyoffinearts. He specialized in the depiction of flowers and in 1843 started to work on a special publication: ‚Endlicher’s Paradisus vindobonensis‘. In this extraordinary publication also rare plants are shown, in life-size. Hartinger therefore studied the flora at botanical gardens and glasshouses in Vienna. In our upcoming exhibition ‘Paradisus Vindobonensis’ we will show a selection of Hartinger’s work that is part of the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The exhibition will be on view from May 21 until August 26, 2018. Get in the mood for it and share your flowery pics now under #ParadisusVindobonensis! We will regularly feature your photos and special prizes are awaiting the winners! Rissa
21.4 - 24.6.2018

Recent post (1/3) by #kunstfueruns for @akademiegalerie 👉For his ‘Carte Blanche’ exhibition, which is currently on view at #akademiegalerie, Jakob Demus chose this special piece of artwork by Rembrandt from our #kupferstichkabinett. Rembrandt’s work has always been an important source of inspiration for the artist. Like Rembrandt, Jakob Demus focusses on depicting landscapes and nature with its tiniest details. Demus himself feels honored to show his own work right next to Rembrandt now and mentioned that this artwork, Saint Hieronymus in an Italian Landscape, is one of his favorite ones.

In this detail of ‘New Year’ we can have a close look at this fine technique. ‘Carte Blanche for Jakob Demus – Tree Illustrations from the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna’ is on view until 13 May 2018 🌳 Jakob Demus (geb. 1959), Zum Neujahr, 1985, Radierung und Diamantkaltnadel (Detail) © Jakob Demus #akademiegalerie  #wien  #academyoffinearts  #vienna  #etching  #tree  #trees
For his ‘Carte Blanche’ exhibition, which is currently on view at #akademiegalerie, Jakob Demus chose this special piece of artwork by Rembrandt from our #kupferstichkabinett.

Wednesday's post for @kunsthistorischesmuseumvienna by #kunstfueruns 👉 As promised some days ago, here comes the second evidence for the inspiration Gustav Klimt took out of the @akademiegalerie for his wall paintings at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna. Compare the male figure in our wall paintings with the portrait by Palmezzano, which is part of the collection of #akademiegalerie (swipe) – a decent similarity, isn’t it? 😉 As Gustav Klimt studied at the Viennese Academy he knew the collection of the Paintings Gallery quite well. These days you can experience these details of Klimt’s wall paintings eye to eye as within our special exhibition #stairwaytoklimt we have erected a huge bridge to enable visitors the access to this magnificent pictorial cycle. You will find this male figure in the left corner of the intercolumnar painting ‘Old Italian Art’. The man is looking towards the right side, where you will see the female figure we shared some days ago.

Another special feature of @munichjewelleryweek are the alternative exhibition spaces and the many shows of student work from around the world. Here are images from one of my favorite venues located in a subway station. In the AkademieGalerie, students at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich have exhibited work since 1989 designed especially for this room. This year's exhibition featured finished works by @takayoshi_t as well as process sketches and models. #munichjewelleryweek #mjw2018 #akademiegalerie #takayoshiterajima #ubahnuniversität #subwaystation

Artist talk coming up! On Thursday, March 15th at 7 p.m. Jonas Burgert will join us at #akademiegalerie to talk about his monumental painting, that is directly communicating with Bosch’s altarpiece. ‘Ihr Schön’ is shown within our exhibition series ‘Correspondences’, exploring correspondences between Hieronymus Bosch's ‘Last Judgment triptych’ and works by a range of artists. Looking forward! 🤗 Jonas Burgert, Ihr Schön, 2016 (Detail), © Lepkowski Studios #academyoffinearts #jonasburgert #hieronymusbosch #museum #arthistory #contemporaryart #vienna

Today's post for @kunsthistorischesmuseumvienna (and @akademiegalerie ) by #kunstfueruns 👉 #stairwaytoklimt ✨ Together with @akademiegalerie we are sharing an exciting art historical detail today: for the clothing of a figure in the wall paintings at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna Gustav Klimt was inspired by a masterpiece by Antonio da Fabriano, which is part of the collection of the Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Klimt himself studied at the Viennese Academy and hence knew the collection of the Paintings Gallery quite well. When the brothers Gustav and Ernst Klimt and their friend Franz Matsch worked on the wall paintings, the Kunsthistorisches Museum was not yet open. The artists did have the chance to look at the collections of the #Kunstkammer, but for the paintings Gustav Klimt seems to have searched for inspiration at the Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. ✨ Apart from the pattern in Fabriano’s painting, that found its way to the clothing of the female figure in the wall painting ‘Old Italian Art’, there is also a second evidence for Klimt’s source of inspiration at #akademiegalerie. Stay tuned soon to learn more about it. 😉

Another piece of artwork shown within our new exhibition 'Carte Blanche for Jakob Demus’ is this drawing from the Circle of Titian. Together with other artworks Jakob Demus chose it from the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna to put it in dialogue with his own work, that focuses on the topic of nature and the tree as epitome of creation. So, the exhibition provides the chance to compare depictions of trees by various artists and epochs. Additionally, Jakob Demus, who for curating this exhibition came back to the #kupferstichkabinett where he started his artistic research many years ago, shows us his own work and thoughts behind. ✨ ‘Carte Blanche for Jakob Demus’ is on view from 1 March until 13 May 2018 • Tiziano Vecellio, genannt Tizian (um 1480/90 - 1576) Venedig), Umkreis, Baum- und Landschaftsstudien (beschnitten), undatiert, Eisengallustine auf Papier © Kupferstichkabinett der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien #akademiegalerie #academyoffinearts #carteblanche #drawing #drawings #trees #nature #drawingtrees #drawingnature #art #vienna

A wonderful new exhibition at @akademiegalerie 👌 Yesterday during a great guided tour I also learned that the artist produces the colour used here on his own, out of burnt wood and other ingredients. It is called Bister and creates a special atmosphere and light in the drawings. Loved it. 😍 Recent post for @akademiegalerie by #kunstfueruns 👉 A new month, a new exhibition series! 🙌 The Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is starting the new exhibition series ‘Carte Blanche’ by inviting artists to choose artworks from the #kupferstichkabinett collections and put them into dialogue with their own work. The first exhibition within this series is by Jakob Demus, who also studied at the Vienna Academy from 1977 until 1984, in the sculpting master class of Joannis Avramidis. Jakob Demus’ focuses on the field of drawings, with nature being a major theme in his work. For the exhibition the artist chose drawings by Rembrandt, Ender, Wutky, Gauermann, and many more, all dedicated to the theme of nature or trees. 👉 ‘Carte Blanche for Jakob Demus’ is on view from 1 March until 13 May 2018 ✨ Jakob Demus (born 1959), Maigebäum, 16.05.2017, Bister, Rohrfeder, laviert, auf Papier © Jakob Demus

Jakob Demus’ focuses on the field of drawings, with nature being a major theme in his work. For the exhibition the artist chose drawings by Rembrandt, Ender, Wutky, Gauermann, and many more, all dedicated to the theme of nature or trees. 👉 ‘Carte Blanche for Jakob Demus’ is on view from 1 March until 13 May 2018 ✨ Jakob Demus (born 1959), Maigebäum, 16.05.2017, Bister, Rohrfeder, laviert, auf Papier © Jakob Demus #akademiegalerie  #carteblanche  #academyoffinearts  #vienna  #drawing  #art  #hellomarch

I would probably change 99 normal red balloons for 1 balloon in blue man shape. And you?🤨

Once in #Brazil Thomas Ender continued drawing. The paths and fates of the individual members of the expedition turned out very different. Thomas Ender, for example, initially explored the city and environs of Rio de Janeiro and took part in a journey to visit Sao Paulo – where he also captured the scene shown today. However, on 1 June 1818, due to his poor health, he started his way back to Europe. We hope you enjoyed the journey from Trieste to Rio de Janeiro and invite you to visit our current exhibition – it is on view until upcoming Sunday, 18 February. Don’t miss it! Welcome to Rio de Janeiro! 🚢🌴 On July 14th 1817 Thomas Ender arrived here after he had left Vienna 3.5 months earlier. Archduchess Maria Leopoldina arrived later that year, on November 5th 1817. On occasion of her marriage to Dom Pedro the expedition to #Brazil took place. For Leopoldina far away from Austria a new life began – a life that should not last very long and a marriage that should become very unhappy… It is a sad story in the end. Yet Leopoldina was the first Empress of Brazil, which gained its independence in 1822. And for the members of the expedition a most interesting journey started with their arrival in #RiodeJaneiro. We will be back with more on this tomorrow! Yesterday's post for @akademiegalerie by #kunstfueruns 👉Madeira seen from the board side 👉Swipe to see the panoramic view! Thomas Ender also captured landscapes in wide formats like this one during the Austrian expedition to #Brazil. It took place on occasion of a special marriage: on 13 May 1817 in Vienna’s Augustinian Church, Archduchess Maria Leopoldina Josepha Caroline, known as Leopoldina, a daughter of Emperor Francis I, was married to Dom Pedro, heir to the throne of Portugal and later Emperor of Brazil. Interesting detail: she was married by proxy – that means in the absence of the groom. Only after this ceremony did Leopoldina set out on a long journey to Rio de Janeiro… ✨ See our Instagram Stories see more of this stage of Ender's journey - we'll be back tomorrow to continue! #akademiegalerie #kupferstichkabinett #watercolours #madeira

As told yesterday, a big storm damaged the frigate of the expedition to #Brazil in 1817. So, Thomas Ender, travelling on the ‘Austria’, spent quite some time in Pola, waiting for the ship to be repaired. Of course, he spent his time drawing. Some of the sketches shown within our special exhibition ‘From Triest to Rio de Janeiro’ hence show the landscape and antique buildings of Pola – like in this watercolour sketch. But the most important person, the one who was the reason for the whole expedition was still in Vienna, presumably busy preparing for her marriage: Archduchess Leopoldina. Stay tuned tomorrow for more! And tonight, we will have a special event coming up: NEUKOMM ON TOUR & SAUDADE

Leaving Triest 🙌 Join us on a trip from Triest to Rio de Janeiro by having a close look at Thomas Ender’s beautiful watercolour sketches. As you might already know, we are currently dedicating a special exhibition to Ender’s work, to mark the 200th anniversary of an expedition to Brazil back in the year 1817. 🛳 On 9 April 1817 the two frigates ‘Austria’ and ‘Augusta’ set sail (👉swipe to see Triest not only from the land side but also from board and the two ships 'Austria' and 'Augusta'). Thomas Ender was on board of the ‘Austria’, the zoologist Johann Natterer (read more about him at @weltmuseumwien) was on board of the ‘Augusta’. 💨Unfortunately, soon after setting out, a wild storm separated them. We will show you the consequence of the unplanned stay of the ‘Austria’ in Pula tomorrow. But before that: do you know the reason for the Austrian expedition to #Brazil? 🤔 And another announcement: tomorrow we'll have a special night with concert and movie coming up on this occasion - click the link in our profile for more now! © The Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna #akademiegalerie #kupferstichkabinett #vienna #thomasender #museum #leopoldine
