Humpty Dumpty went on a Northern road trip. In Ipoh she ate almost bursting her pants zip. Unable to move she was told to slow down. Why not take a walk to check out the old town?
Humpty Dumpty went leaving everyone behind. And oh my, look at what treasures she find. Plain old walls painted in all manner of design. Giving life to once tired old town where food and art now entwine.
Humpty Dumpty got back squealing and laughing with glee. Oh my, you all should come to see them with me. What a great walk and now I’m feeling famish. So what’s next on the menu for us to ravish?
#ipoh is now filled with so many wall murals, it is in direct competition with #georgetownpenang making headlines in street art tourism. One of the wall murals with cars piling on top of each other truly depicts the parking issue that the city is facing and is advertising for a private car park. If you are in Ipoh for a day, best to park your car at a private car park that charges daily rate like this and #uber or just walk around the spots for easy travels. I fell in love with the hummingbird that was painted as though it is flying to perch on the tree, which is real by the way, a solid bench was put together under a painted branch full of local fruits and best of all, the wall mural where 3 friends were painted toasting a drink around an actual barrel as an outdoor advertisement for #kafeyoonwah All these wall paintings have a 3D affect which is the current trend and I really had a good exercise walking around Ipoh Old Town checking them out. #22halestreet you stole my heart at first sight. Believe it or not, this is the first time this self proclaimed “foodie” didn’t have any food photos to show!! Our big group of 8 adults and baby Miles were at 22 Hale Street for late lunch but none was able to take photos of the food because we were busy checking out the deco! We actually had 2 plates of “Nasi Kerabu”, 3 plates of “Char Kueh Tiow”, 2 plates of “Oyster Omelette” and 1 plate of “Rojak Buah” to share plus 10 servings of drinks. None took any photos because we were famished and ate everything at an amazing speed, clean plates were taken back to the kitchen in record time. Both the kerabu and kueh teow were ok, the rojak buah spot on, but the oyster omelette was a bit heavy on the egg which made the oysters seems drowning in them. The drinks were great and we had a fantastic time catching up while admiring the beautiful antique decor, put together by Puan Seri Dato’ Sandra Lee Wei Feng. The idea was to establish a gallery that showcase the history of Ipoh from the people’s point of view while promoting art as a collaborative culture. It also serves as a distribution point for the handy craft made by members of #persatuandaybreak a local #ngo that champions and creates opportunities for people with disabilities.
