Variation on three legged dog. I get never ever tired of downward facing dog and of all its variations. Adho Muhka Svanasana is the pose that along with Sukasana I’ve probably been doing the most. I still remember how difficult it was at the very beginning. I celebrate how good it feels right now. I learned this variation last weekend at the @omyogashow during @wasayfoladi  yoga class. The other day I heard someone ask why someone would take a photo of down dog. Suggesting that there were “cooler” yoga photos to take. My intention is not to look cool, but rather to find strength, peace, and return to my own compassion. I used to think I had to get into arm balances... I even thought teacher training would bring me a handstand and other fancy things I’d been working on. Instead, teacher training has humbled me. Made me grateful for the basics. And the ways I’ve connected to my body outside of asana (physical postures). This is the first flow I’ve practiced in a long time, and instead of pushing myself to be “cool”... here I am. As I am. Happy to be in down dog for the first time in a long time. I’m not here to show you anything other than that even perhaps the most accessible pose is beautiful too. That advanced postures are just that postures. The real work is the breath. The peace. The stillness. I’d rather you be happy and full of life than injured OR worse, never begin to practice yourself, because someone showed you yoga was anything else 🧘🏻‍♀️

Ya se que es práctica y paciencia pero... joo, esta asana se practica hasta decir basta en cada sesión de yoga que haces y sin embargo se le resiste mil. No se si es que hay alguna cosa que se me escapa... 😅

One of the most fundamental poses in yoga is downward facing dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana. .
.
When first starting yoga downward dog can be difficult, taxing and strenuous. If downward dog is difficult for you be patient with yourself, I guarantee you are not the only one in the world that has tight hamstrings or weakness in the arms and shoulders. On the other hand be diligent and practice down dog even if you can only hold it for a couple of seconds, every time you do this pose you will build strength and flexibility through the body.

 A mild inversion which builds strength for so many other poses. Downward dog  touches every part of the body from the feet, ankles, calves, the hamstrings, glutes, low back, neck, spine, hands, wrists, shoulders. .
Therapeutically this pose helps with fatigue, headaches, mild depression, insomnia, sinusitis, and asthma. Another huge benefit, it can help with flat feet and menopause symptoms!!

With regular practice of downward-facing dog you can improve digestion, back pain and overall range of motion and flexibility in the body.

Vinyasa yoga delivers it's benefits by bringing consciousness in motion. The linking of one asana to the next in a flowing sequence can be imagined like a stack of steps arranged along a path to the top of a mountain.

Vinyasa helps us cultivate an awareness in the body and in the mind by coordinating movements with the breath. 
This vinyasa from bhujangasana to adho mukha svanasana is one of my favorites simply because of I can do many many reps of it. Commonly know as the Hindu push-ups, it is great for training the shoulders, triceps and chest.

Today we have #downwarddog #adhomukhasvanasana one of the most incredible asanas. It may seem easy when you are looking at it but it requires a lot of engagement. Bandhas, alignment, drishti...
Legs should be hips apart, feet parallel (if you are not raising one leg). Quadriceps engaged, mula and uddiyana bandha engaged (activate lower belly muscles a bit, pull the belly towards spine) and with every exhale feel the engagement a little more. Hips are high, spine straight, lengthened. Arms straight, do not pull shoulders towards ears, drishti (gaze) towards belly. Fingers are spread and firm in the ground.

There're number of things you need to take care of but not just pushing the floor and straight your legs. When you really taking care of those number of things during your practice, it can be quite sweaty😊

Today marks the first year into my yoga journey. Exactly a year ago, during my first Hot Basics class with @yoga_yinfinity , I almost fainted. That was how weak I was, people who know me well witnessed how often I was sick with frequent fevers and ailments over the years.

Thankfully, yoga allows me to practise at my own pace, and in order to do that I had to be aware of my own body, what I can or cannot do, whether it's at its limits, or whether I can push it a tiny weeny bit further. I was never a naturally flexible/strong person, was just hoping to maintain and stop my 老骨头 from deteriorating.

So I never expected that one day I could touch my toes in a forward bend, carry my own weight in crow, and see the world upside down in a headstand. And I haven't visited the doctor the past year and feeling healthier than ever, which is a huge thing for me 💪 So there you go, other than my daily kiwi diet, I do daily yoga even if it's just sticking myself to the wall or simple twisting for few minutes.

Big thanks to the teachers of @yoga_inc who were part of this journey, @yoga_yinfinity who taught me so much on breath work (because playing music requires it too), @yogawithjoy for the many many poses added to my vocabulary, @feeferrs whom I did my first inversions with, @eyelovetospy for her super calming stretch classes and @edricliew for guiding me on my first dropback and sharing his passion for Ashtanga by making me do the Half Primary Series 😨

And this downward dog pose is somehow a basic pose but will constantly evolve as we progress, I never found this basic pose easy because it's probably the pose that we do the most number of times yet I'm always adjusting: too many things to adjust, I had teachers pushing my shoulders, pulling my arms, pulling my thighs, poking my belly. So it's definitely still a work-in-progress, looks like I'm still sinking a little here.

And I always use this as a reminder when I get discouraged in music too: it's never too late to start, we all have our weaknesses, but #practiseandalliscoming
