Hello everyone! Today's painting, in tribute to the glorious sunshine this week, is a free and fiery work by Katarra Butler Napaltjarri, what do you think?
Katarra first painted for Papunya Tula Artists as early as 2001 and we are delighted to recently include 5 of her works in our collection.
Born near the Tjukurla Community in Western Australia around 1946, Katarra paints Women’s stories & her ancestral country. She was the second wife of Anatjari Tjakamarra, who was one of the original group of painters who started the Central Desert art movement in Papunya in 1971.
Her recent paintings are painted with bright rich colours and bold brushwork. Katarra’s vibrant style has led to success exhibiting in Sydney, Darwin, USA, the 28th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award in Darwin, and of course our recent exhibition Wetpaint Gallery Online! We hope you like it as much as we do!
